The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for Gigaro over the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, this is a tough one. The forecast is basically a long stretch of flat or near-flat conditions. For the first week and a half, we’re looking at tiny little dribbles of swell – think 0.3 ft to 2 ft – with pretty much no energy behind them. The combined energy of all swells stays well under 100 (the highest we see in that early period is a measly 19). It’s going to be a lot of time staring at a flat, clean lake, especially with that light offshore or glassy wind on the 5th morning. That’s a beautiful morning for a paddle, but not a wave.
There’s a real gap here. From the start of August right through to the 9th, there’s nothing rideable. The only blip of interest comes on Sunday the 9th afternoon. The wind will be a strong cross-onshore, messy, but the swell finally bumps up to 5 ft from the W with a period of 6 seconds and a combined energy of 154. That’s moderate wave energy, but that wind is going to wreck it. It’ll be lumpy and choppy, honestly more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer at a beach and reef setup like Gigaro. After that, it drops right back down to tiny conditions again for the rest of the second week.
There is simply no standout session in this 16-day window. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so at least the swim will be pleasant. But for surf? This is a blank run. It’s one of those periods where the Mediterranean just goes to sleep. Forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it, but for now, I’d say the boards can stay in the bag.
Rusty.
