The Lowdown
Hey, Rusty here. Let’s talk about Le Ruppione. This is an advanced, inconsistent beach-and-reef break that really only lights up when the stars align, and the next two weeks are a mixed bag.
We’re looking at a long flat spell right off the bat. From Saturday the 18th through to Wednesday the 22nd, the water’s almost dead – tiny dribbles under 2 ft and mostly glassy or light onshore winds, but the swell energy is next to nothing (combined energy 3, 2, 41 – weak). No point even thinking about paddling out. Thursday the 23rd stays tiny, with a glassy morning but no size.
Friday the 24th morning brings a slight lift: 3 ft from the WNW, clean with a light offshore, but the energy is moderate (114) and the waves are pretty ordinary. Still, if you’re desperate, it’s a knee-high dribble. Then we go back to small stuff through Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th – forget it.
Now here’s where it gets interesting. Monday the 27th afternoon rolls in a massive 12 ft swell from the W, with a 10-second period and an insane combined energy of 3631. But the forecast says it’s too big for this break – the setup will be a washing machine, dangerous for anyone but the most experienced, and even then it’s sketchy. I’d give it a miss.
The real standout is Tuesday morning, the 28th of July. The swell drops to 8 ft from the WNW, period 9 seconds, and the wind is dead calm – glassy perfection. The combined energy is 1563, strong and powerful. For an advanced crew, this is the session to aim for. The waves will be clean, solid, and with the period just under 10 seconds they’ll have good shape. It’s a groundswell, but at a beach-and-reef it’ll still hold. Expect crowds? The break is “sometimes” busy, so you might have company, but it’s worth it.
Tuesday afternoon the wind swings onshore and the quality drops. Wednesday the 29th morning sees 3 ft, clean again but ordinary – not a standout. Then another long flat spell from Thursday the 30th through Saturday the 1st of August: tiny or no waves, energy 0–4. Finally, Sunday the 2nd of August morning gives us 5 ft from the WNW, glassy, with a combined energy of 208 – moderate but clean. It’s a decent option, but not as epic as the 28th.
So, bottom line: the first week is a write-off. The 28th Tuesday morning is the crown jewel – get on it if you’re an experienced surfer. The 2nd of August is a backup but much smaller. Keep an eye on the forecasts – things can change.
Rusty.
