The Lowdown

Alright, let’s talk about Les Sablettes in feet and miles per hour for those who think that way.

It’s been a quiet patch and it’s gonna stay that way for a while. There’s a long gap of flatness ahead, so don’t expect much.

The water’s warmer than usual for this time of year, around 74°, about 4° above normal. Not that it matters when there’s no surf.

From Tuesday the 15th right through to the morning of Saturday the 27th, it’s mostly flat or with tiny, weak windswell. We’re talking 0.3ft or less, with combined energy readings of 1 to 86. Winds are cross or onshore, and conditions are poor.

There’s a little bump around Thursday the 17th and Friday the 18th to about 4ft to 5ft from the west, but that’s short-period 6-second windswell. Energy climbs to moderate levels – 191 on Thursday morning, 130 on Friday afternoon – but it’s lumpy and cross-shore. Friday morning the 18th is a little cleaner with a cross-offshore WNW breeze and 4ft waves, but it’s still poor.

Saturday the 19th morning is clean with a 3ft west swell and light NNW winds at 6 mph, but it’s weak. Then it’s back to nothing from the 21st through the 25th – glassy mornings, zero swell.

Sunday the 27th afternoon shows a tiny 0.3ft southerly, but it’s nothing.

The best chance comes on Monday the 28th: the afternoon brings 4ft from the west, 5-second period, with a light east-northeast cross-offshore breeze at 9 mph keeping it clean. Combined energy is 98 – moderate but on the low side. Still poor surf, but it’s the best we’ve seen.

Tuesday the 29th has 4ft to 4ft west swell but with stronger cross-shore winds making it messy. Wednesday the 30th morning has the biggest swell: 5ft from the west-northwest, 6-second period, with a strong 25 mph cross-offshore wind and energy at 206. It’s clean but windy – more for a kite than a paddle.

Les Sablettes rarely breaks anyway, and this run proves it. No standouts here.

Rusty.
