The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be honest about the next couple of weeks at L'Hippodrome. It’s a bleak stretch for surfers. The entire 16-day window is a flat spell with zero worthwhile waves. The swell energy is basically non-existent, with the highest combined energy reading we see being a measly 16 (weak) on the afternoon of the 4th. That’s not surf, that’s just a ripple.
From the 4th of August through to the 19th, it’s a long, dry gap. The biggest swell height we see is a pathetic 2ft on the afternoon of the 4th, but it’s coming from the east with a short, gutless period of 4 seconds and cross-onshore wind. The whole setup is just "poor surf conditions" on every single entry. There are a few glassy mornings, like the 5th, 6th, 7th, 11th, 12th, 16th, 17th, and 18th, but with no swell to speak of, it’s just a flat, clean lake. For a spot that’s a beach and reef setup that rarely breaks, a blank run like this is pretty normal for the area. There’s simply nothing to recommend here. When the waves are this small and the wind is wrong, the whole setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer, not that there’s enough wind for that either.
I really wish I had better news, but there’s no standout, no hidden gem, just flat lines. Hang up the board for a bit and check back in a couple of weeks. Forecasts can always change.
Rusty.
