The Lowdown

Alright, folks, Rusty here. Looked at the next 16 days for L’Hermitage, and I gotta level with you – there’s nothing worth paddling out for. From July 27 all the way through August 11, it’s flat, quiet, and a total dud. The swell energy is basically zero – most of those combined energy numbers are 0 or single digits, with a tiny peak of 58 on a couple afternoons, but that’s still weak and the waves are tiny (0.3ft to 2ft, short period 3–5 seconds). No standouts, no hidden gems.

L’Hermitage is a beach and reef break that’s inconsistent to begin with, so a blank run like this is pretty normal for the area. The water temp on the 27th is 76°F, which is about 4°F warmer than average for this time of year – feels like a warm bath, but no waves to enjoy it.

There are a few glassy mornings – like July 28 with 1ft from the SW at 5 seconds, wind calm – but the swell is too small and weak to push anything rideable. Offshore winds show up here and there (e.g., August 1 morning, 0.7ft, 6 mph north offshore), but again, the swell just isn’t there. Even the best-looking conditions – a glassy morning on July 31 with 1ft SW and zero wind – still get a “poor surf conditions” label because the energy is negligible.

If you’re desperate, you might find a knee-high lump on August 2 morning (2ft SW, 14 energy, offshore NW wind), but honestly, it’s not worth the drive. The whole period is a washout. Forecasts can change, but right now, I’d hang up the board and wait for a proper groundswell to show up. Nothing to get excited about.

Rusty out.
