The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get this straight right off the bat: the next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim for a proper paddle. I’ve been staring at the charts for Aiguaoliva, and honestly, there’s nothing here that’s going to get me grabbing my shortboard and sprinting down the sand. We’re in for a long stretch of tiny waves and less-than-ideal winds.
The first real chance of anything rideable doesn't even show up until the 23rd of August, and even then, it ain't much. We're looking at a meager 1ft of swell from the southeast, mixed with a cross-on breeze that’s going to have it chopped up and messy. The water temp is sitting at 83°F, which is 5°F warmer than normal for this time of year—that’s a wild anomaly, you’ll be surfing in a bath. But the wave quality is just poor. Forget it.
For the rest of that first week and into the next, it’s all about the lack of energy. The swell never really gets its act together. Sure, there are moments on the 24th, 25th, 27th and 28th with some cleaner conditions—light offshore or glassy mornings—but we're still talking about waves in the 0.7ft to 1ft range. You’d be doing more floating than surfing. The combined energy is almost nonexistent, with values mostly in the single digits (7, 3, 5, and 2 are about as good as it gets). This spot is a reef that rarely breaks as it is, and with this little juice, it’s going to be a lake out there.
We hit a real dead zone from the 29th of August through the 31st. There's not even enough swell to register a height in the morning of the 29th, and the afternoons are just blown out by the sea breeze anyway. This is a stretch of days you’d be better off doing literally anything else.
The new month doesn’t bring much hope either. The 1st of September pulls in a slightly bigger pulse—3ft from the ESE—but it's coming with an onshore wind and a period of just 5 seconds, so it's going to be messy, weak, and shut down. Not what we're after. The energy does pick up into the moderate range (35) but the quality just isn't there for a clean surf.
There are a few mornings that’ll look tempting, like the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th of September with clean conditions and some cross-off wind. But the swell is still stuck in the 1ft range, and this break needs a lot more than that to show its teeth. You might catch a knee-high sliver if you’re desperate and just want to get wet, but you'll be fighting for every crumb.
The final few days of the forecast, into the 5th, 6th, and 7th of September, follow the same tired pattern. Tiny surf, some glassy mornings, and breezy, chopped afternoons. There’s no standout swell, no good window of decent size and favorable wind that lines up. This is a blank run, plain and simple. With a break that's as inconsistent as this one, it’s not surprising, but it’s a real bummer.
If I were you, I’d leave the board in the car and maybe go for a kite session if the wind kicks up—looks more interesting for that than for paddle surfing. But for now, this stretch of coast is taking a holiday. Forecasts change though, so keep an eye on it, but don't hold your breath.
