Alright, Rusty here again, translating that dogs breakfast of a forecast into something we can use. Let me look at what we've got on the cards for Aiguaoliva over the next couple of weeks. I gotta level with you, it's a grim picture.
Aiguaoliva is looking like a total bust. Right from the get-go, there's nothing to paddle for. There's a big dead gap stretching for over a week where the surf is just not on.
Friday, July 3rd morning you're looking at a microscopic 0.7ft ENE swell, with a period of just 5 seconds – that's wind chop, not groundswell. The energy reading is a measly 3 (weak). The water is freakishly warm, sitting at 27°, which is 4° hotter than it should be – very unusual. A light cross-off wind might make it look pretty, but there's zero power.
All through the weekend and into Monday the 6th, it's the same story. Wave heights barely tickle 2ft, and the period stays short. The energy breaks double digits on Monday morning, hitting 11 (still weak), with a glassy 2ft SSW swell – the best of a very bad bunch. Not a standout by any measure.
Tuesday the 7th morning brings a slightly bigger 2ft SSW swell, still on a 5-second period, with a clean cross-off wind, and energy at 19 (still weak). The notes still read "poor surf conditions." Nothin' doing.
The only faint glimmer comes on Saturday, July 11th morning – a clean 3ft ENE swell, 5-second period, with the combined energy finally climbing to 65 (moderate). The swell direction is ENE, which matches the optimum for the break, so at least the angle is right. But it's still weak and short-period. Hardly a reason to dust off the board. After that, it all fades back into flatness again.
This Aiguaoliva reef rarely breaks, and this forecast confirms why. It's a straight-up flat spell. The mornings are clean, but there's nothing to ride. If you're looking at this stretch, you're just looking at water. For this area, a blank run like this is pretty normal. Forecasts can change, but right now, it's a write-off.
Rusty.
