The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you. I’ve combed through the numbers for the next 16 days, and honestly, it’s a lean stretch. We’re looking at Aiguaoliva, a reef break that’s a rare event to begin with, and the swell just isn’t lining up.
Right from the start on Tuesday the 18th of August, we’ve got tiny, weak 0.3 ft surf with a period of 5 seconds. The combined energy is barely a whisper at 1. The mods get a bit better, but it’s not until the morning of Friday the 21st of August that we see something worth paddling for. We get a pulse of 5 ft swell from the SSW. The period is short at 6 seconds, but the combined energy climbs to 118 (moderate), and the wind is dead glassy from the NW. That’s the best of the whole run—clean, glassy conditions on a rare-breaking reef. It’s a beginner-friendly spot, so that 5 ft is manageable, but don’t expect much push.
After that, it’s a long dry spell. From Friday afternoon right through until the end of the month, the swell drops back to ankle-slappers—2 ft or less, with periods under 7 seconds and combined energy mostly in the single digits. The wind is often cross-onshore or cross-off, so the quality is shot. The morning of Tuesday the 25th of August shows a little bump to 2 ft from the E with a 6-second period and 25 energy, but it’s still a poor surf day.
The very end of the run, on Monday the 31st of August morning, offers a sliver of hope: 2 ft from the SE, 6-second period, 23 energy, with a clean cross-off breeze. It’s not inspiring, but it’s the best we’ve seen in a week. Still, with the combined energy only at 23, the waves will be weak and inconsistent.
The water temperature is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
To sum it up: there’s really only one standout morning—Friday the 21st of August. Get on it if you’re desperate for a glassy session, but don’t expect much. The rest of the 16 days is a long, flat gap with only tiny, weak, and often choppy dribble. This reef rarely breaks, and this forecast proves why. Keep your eyes on the charts, but for now, it’s a kite-surfing breeze more than a wave-riding one.
Rusty.
