The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it for Aiguaoliva. I gotta be straight with you – this stretch of the 16-day window is a real tough one. We’re looking at nearly two weeks of barely-there surf, with the first sniff of anything rideable not showing up until the 25th of July. That’s a long, dry spell.
For the first week and a half, the swell is tiny, mostly around 0.7ft to 1ft, and coming from the east. The energy is basically non-existent, with values like 5 or 6 (weak energy) – it’s just not enough to push a surfer. The wind is a real mixed bag of onshore and cross-shore, so the surface is often chopped or bumpy. There are a couple of moments, like the morning of the 15th and the morning of the 20th, where it goes glassy, but with 0.7ft to 1.0ft of swell, it’s just a lake. No point even getting the wetsuit on.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on Saturday the 25th. The swell starts to nudge up to 2ft from the south, with a period of 4 seconds. The energy climbs to 13 (weak energy), but it’s still in the "poor surf conditions" category. The morning of the 25th has light cross-shore wind, which is the best look we get. By the afternoon, the wind swings cross-onshore and gets choppy, so the morning is the only window.
Sunday the 26th is actually the best of a bad bunch. The swell is 2ft from the southeast, with a period of 5 seconds, and the energy hits 29 (weak energy). The morning has a light cross-shore breeze, which will keep it reasonably clean. The swell is tiny, but for a beginner, this might be the only session worth paddling out for. Aiguaoliva is a reef break that *rarely breaks*, so even seeing this much activity is a minor event.
After that, Monday the 27th and Tuesday the 28th drop back into the tiny, weak swell zone, with energy levels in the single digits and low twenties. The wind is a mess of cross and onshore, so it’s back to flatness.
In short, this is a quiet period for Aiguaoliva. The only real standout, if you can call it that, is the morning of Sunday the 26th of July. If you’re a beginner and desperate for a splash, that’s your window. For everyone else, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
