Playa de Cervigon Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a good look at the surf ahead for Playa de Cervigon. It’s a bit of a slow burn, so don’t get too excited for the next week or so. We're looking at a stretch of small, weak surf, and to be honest, it’s mostly going to be a wait-and-see game. The water is sitting at 70°F, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, so at least you won't be freezing while you're sitting there staring at flatness.

The first week is pretty grim. There is surf on offer, but it’s poor. For the first few days, we’ve got small, weak swell with a lot of cross-shore and cross-on winds making a mess of things. The wave energy is weak, with values down in the 50 to 160 range (57-166). Don’t expect any clean waves here. The swell is there, between 1ft and 3ft, but it’s not organized and the winds are just chopping it up. This is one of those times where the effort of paddling out isn't going to be worth the ride. It’s just not doing anything for us.

There is a slight reprieve on the morning of the 10th, when that NW groundswell tries to push through. We’re looking at 2ft at 9 seconds from the NW with a glassy morning. It’s surfable, but ‘ordinary’ is the word that comes to mind. The energy is moderate at 151, but it’s small. The wind is light and offshore, so it might be clean, but it’s not going to be firing. The rest of that week stays in that same frustrating pattern: small, inconsistent, and mostly cross-shore winds. The swell energy is moderate at best, but the waves are just not building.

The real issue is that there’s just no consistency. The swell direction is mostly NNW, which is okay for this spot, but the period is often short, around 7-9 seconds, so it’s just not holding together. The long period stuff we see on the 8th (12 seconds) is tiny at 0.7ft, so it’s useless. We get a bit of a bump on the 15th and 16th with moderate energy (over 200), but the winds are cross-onshore, and it’s just not going to be clean.

The second week, the pattern shifts a bit. The surf is still small, but we start to see a more promising pulse around the 18th and especially the 19th. On the 19th, we’re looking at a stronger WNW/NW swell pushing 5ft, with moderate-strong energy (437-475). It’s got a bit of size and power behind it, but the winds are cross to cross-on. It might be a bit lumpy, but there’s a chance for a few bowly ones if you’re willing to work for it. The period is a solid 10 seconds, so it’ll have some push. The morning of the 19th looks like the pick of the whole run – a touch of size and the wind is light and cross-shore. It’s not perfect, but it’s the best we’re getting.

Honestly, for a reef set-up like Cervigon, this is a tough forecast. We’re not seeing any big, clean groundswell that will really make it light up. The highlight is that 19th, but it’s a one-off in a sea of mediocrity. If you’re desperate, the mornings when it’s glassy are your best bet, but you’ll be on a shortboard and scratching for anything. The break is a sheltered reef, so it needs a good swell to get going, and we’re just not seeing it. The standouts are few and far between, so keep your expectations low and maybe wax up the log for the small days.
