The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s in store for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a tough stretch. We’re looking at a long, dry run with barely a ripple for most of the period. The first recommendation doesn’t show up until Monday the 27th of July, so that’s almost two weeks of flat or tiny, wind-affected slop. For an area that’s fairly exposed to the swell, this is a real quiet spell. A few mornings go glassy, but the swell is just too small to do anything with – you’d be bobbing around on a lake.
The only real stand-out in the whole window is the morning of Monday the 27th of July at Playa de San Lorenzo. It’s finally got some life. We’re looking at a clean 4ft swell from the NW with a period of 9 seconds, pushing a moderate wave energy (347). The wind is glassy – that’s a massive positive for this spot, as it’ll be clean and lined up. The water temp is sitting at 68°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you won’t need a thick suit. The crowds are marked as “often” here, so expect company, but for the first decent surf in weeks, that’s no surprise.
The afternoon of that same day gets a bit bigger, hitting 5ft, but the wind swings onshore, and the energy jumps to strong (556). That’s going to be messy and a handful.
If you’re an experienced surfer, the Tuesday morning (28th July) might be worth a look too. It’s 5ft from the NNW, but the wind is light cross-shore, and the energy is still strong (330). It’s a little unsure, but not a write-off.
So, to sum it up: there’s a long, flat gap with nothing on offer, then a single, clear winner on the morning of the 27th. Get out there if you can, because it’s the only real session in sight.
Rusty.
