Table - best surf conditions forecast for Playa de San Juan over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what the next couple of weeks are serving up.
Honestly, it's a bit of a slow start. The first real opportunity to get wet is a pretty ordinary one. Saturday morning, July 11th, at Playa de San Juan, we've got tiny 2 ft waves from the NW with an 11-second period. The board is going to feel a bit light under your arm, the combined wave energy is a weak (108), and while that cross-off breeze from the ENE at 6 mph will keep things reasonably tidy, it's not going to be a session to write home about. Water temp is sitting at 67°, which is pretty standard for this time of year. The afternoon cleans up a bit wind-wise, but the swell drops even more.
We then hit a massive lull. From Sunday the 12th right through to Sunday the 19th, the surf is basically flat or just a dribble. The wind is on it or cross-shore, and the combined energy numbers are barely ticking over. You'd need a lot of patience and a really forgiving board to have any fun. This stretch is a write-off.
Now, the good news starts to appear further out. We get a little pulse to start the new work week. Monday morning, July 20th, a bump of 3 ft NW swell rolls in. The period is 7 seconds, so it's not the most powerful, but the energy is back up to a moderate (113), and the cross-off wind from the E at 6 mph should keep the surface clean. It’s a soft, small day, but it’s something to get you back in the water. The next morning, Tuesday the 21st, is glassy with a 3 ft NNW swell. Clean, but still small.
But keep your eyes on the end of the forecast period. The standout is the last day we have data for. Sunday morning, July 26th, is looking like the real deal. We've got a solid 6 ft swell from the NW, and that period stretches out to a proper 10 seconds. The combined energy jumps right up to a strong (513). The wind is glassy – flat calm – out of the WNW at just 3 mph. This is going to be the cleanest, most powerful, and most consistent surf of the entire two weeks. For the intermediate and above crew, that Sunday dawn patrol is the one to circle on the calendar. The afternoon drops a touch in size and picks up a little cross-on breeze, so get it while it's good. This stretch from the 20th onwards is much more promising than the barren first week.
Stay patient, and that last Sunday will pay off.
Rusty.
