The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for La Nora over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, it’s a bit of a slow start. The first couple of days are flat and underwhelming with tiny waves and poor conditions. You’re looking at a bit of a wait before anything really gets going.
The first real sniff of action appears on Thursday afternoon with a small 4ft NW swell starting to fill in. The winds stay light and cross-on, so the surf is only marginal. Friday sees a bump in size to 4ft from the NW and combined energy hitting 588, which is a moderate pulse. The winds are still cross-shore though, so the quality is still just marginal. Not worth getting too excited about yet.
The weekend is a mixed bag. Saturday arrives with a bit more size, 4ft from the NNW, and it’s glassy on Sunday morning with 3ft from the north, so there’s a chance to get wet if you're keen, but it’s not special.
Then there’s a real lull in the middle of the week. From Monday the 24th through to Friday the 28th, you’re looking at tiny surf, mostly under 3ft, combined with light and variable winds. It’s an unsurfable period, basically. The combined energy drops right off, reading 57 or lower on the morning of the 26th.
Now, what you’re waiting for is Saturday the 29th of August. That’s the standout. We’ve got 4ft of NW swell coming in with glassy conditions in the morning, and a combined energy reading of 214 (moderate). The wind is dead calm, so it’ll be clean and smooth. The swell direction (NW) aligns perfectly with the break's optimum exposure, and it’s a beach and point setup, which handles that direction fine. There’s likely to be some crowd around, as it’s a fairly consistent spot that’s often popular. This is the one to aim for if you can wait. After that, the vibe drops again into the first days of September with more cross-on breezes and very ordinary surf.
So, in short: the first week and a half is mostly a write-off, but keep the 29th circled. It’s the best we’ve got, and it’s worth the wait for those clean lines.
Rusty.
