The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for La Nora over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, the first week is a bit of a write-off. We’re looking at weak, short-period windswell for days, with the wave energy barely breaking 30 (23) initially. A lot of flat, bumpy, or just plain poor conditions. There’s a real gap here with nothing worth recommending until we get into the second week.
The first real glimmer of hope shows up on the morning of Saturday, July 26th. The wind is glassy, and we’ve got a 3ft groundswell rolling in from the NW with a proper 10-second period. The energy is starting to build (177). It’s not huge, but it’s clean and surfable. The water temperature feels about average for the time of year, so just a normal wetsuit situation.
But the standout – the one you want to circle on the calendar – is the morning of Wednesday, July 30th. This is the best it’s gonna get. The swell is a solid 5ft from the NW, and the period jumps to 10 seconds, giving it proper shape and punch. The energy is getting strong (389). The wind is glassy, absolutely dead from the NNW, which means clean, peeling lines. This is a long-period groundswell, so look for it to stand up best at the point, but the conditions are so good it’ll be worth the paddle. The waves will be solid clean and rolling. For a break that’s fairly consistent, the crowds are often here, so get out early for a slice of that.
The afternoon of the 30th is still fun, with a 4ft NW swell and glassy wind (264), but the morning is the clear winner.
So, the first week is a dud, but the wait is worth it. Keep your eyes on that Wednesday morning. It’s going to be special.
Rusty.
