Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s get into it. The water temp is running about 69°F right now, which is a good 5°F warmer than normal for this time of year. The ocean feels pretty warm.
Straight talk on La Nora (beach and point). The first week is a struggle. Starting Monday the 6th of July right through to Friday the 10th, the swell is tiny – 1ft to 2ft from the NW. Wind is mostly cross-onshore, messing up the surface. The combined wave energy is weak, in the 20s to 70s. Not worth getting wet.
Saturday the 11th offers a tiny glimmer. A 2ft NW swell, period around 11 seconds, and the wind goes glassy early. The energy is still low at 88, but that flat surface makes it look pretty. It’s surfable, just very ordinary. By afternoon, the wind picks up and it’s messy again. This pattern of anemic swell and bad wind holds through Thursday the 16th. We get another calm morning on the 16th, but with a 2ft, 7-second wave, there's just no power.
Friday the 17th is the first real step up. Swell hits about 3ft from the NW, and the energy jumps to 173 – that’s moderate juice. Wind is cross-shore from the WNW, so it’s not perfect but it’s rideable. Saturday the 18th keeps it going with a 3ft NW swell and energy at 158.
The best window is Sunday the 19th of July. Early morning brings a 4ft NW swell with an 8-second period, and the wind goes glassy. The combined energy is a solid 168. That early session will be clean with small, fun lines. Not huge, but clean. Afternoon gets a cross-onshore breeze, so hit it early.
And the one to keep an eye on is Tuesday the 21st of July. We get a proper pulse: 4ft swell from the NNW with a long 12-second period – that’s groundswell. The combined energy is a strong 567. Wind is light and onshore from the NNW, so the surface will be a little textured, but the power in the water is serious. That long period will work well on the point, giving it some nice shape. It’s a week and a half out, so it’s not a sure thing, but it’s the best looking day of the whole period.
So, a flat start and a slow build. Nothing epic, but Sunday the 19th for a clean, small session and Tuesday the 21st for real power are your targets. Hang tight.
Rusty.
