The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, breakin’ it down for you.
It’s gonna be real quiet at first. From Monday the 17th to Wednesday the 19th of August, the waves are barely a puff – 0.7m or less, weak as dishwater. Combined swell energy under 56. The wind is all wrong, cross-on or just sloppy. Don’t bother.
Things finally wake up on Thursday the 20th of August. That morning, a northwest groundswell pushes through at 1.0m with a 12-second period, bumping the combined energy up to 304. The wind is light and cross-on in the a.m., but the afternoon turns glassy – dead calm – and the energy climbs to 499. That Thursday afternoon is your best bet in the first week: clean, smooth, 1.0m waves. This is the pick of the lot.
Friday the 21st keeps it going with a glassy morning again: 1.1m from the northwest, combined energy 435. Real nice, easy-going surf for the intermediate surfer. This stretch – Thursday afternoon through Friday morning – is where you want to be.
Then it drops off. Saturday and Sunday go tiny with lousy wind. Monday the 24th has a glassy 0.7m morning that’s rideable but nothing special. Tuesday the 25th morning offers a bump to 1.4m from the north-northwest, glassy wind, and combined energy of 188. The period is short though, only 7 seconds, so it’ll be a little lumpy. Still, a sessionable window.
From the 26th to the 30th of August, it’s mostly poor – rain, cross-on wind, ankle-biters. The one longer-range hope is Monday the 31st of August. The morning shows a 1.1m northwest swell with a 10-second period (combined energy 299) and a light cross-offshore breeze. That’s clean. It’s over a week out, so don’t book the trip yet, but mark it.
The big standout in this 16-day run is that Thursday 20th afternoon and Friday 21st morning. Glassy, clean, moderate energy from the northwest. That’s your window.
Rusty, signing off.
