The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s brewing for La Nora.
Right now, we’re in a bit of a flat spell. The beach and point setup is seeing some small energy, but the conditions are messy with a chop, so honestly, it’s not worth paddling out for the next few days. You’re looking at a gap of almost nothing worthwhile until things finally start to shift around Thursday the 27th of August.
That Thursday morning, we’ve got a jump up to a 7ft swell from the northwest, with a moderate wave energy reading (626). But the wind is a cross-shore from the west, so it’ll be a bit lumpy. Still, it’s the first real sign of life. Friday the 28th gets punchier. The swell climbs to 8ft from the northwest, with the energy ramping up strongly (1539). That’s a lot of juice, but the period is only 10 seconds, and the morning wind is a light cross-shore, so the sets will be a bit jumbled. This is getting into expert territory for the size.
Now, here’s the standout. Saturday the 29th of August is the session to circle. Early morning, the swell is still a solid 5ft from the northwest, but it’s glassy. Zero wind. That means clean lines, the combined swell energy is strong (794), and the water temperature is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. For a beach-and-point break, glassy conditions are gold. The swell direction is right in the pocket of the optimum, so it’ll be wrapping in nicely. Just a heads up: crowds are likely here, so get in early.
Looking into the first week of September, there’s another serious pulse. Thursday the 3rd of September morning has a 7ft northwest swell, very long-period at 12 seconds, which means it’s a pure groundswell. The energy number is massive (1439). And it’s glassy. This is excellent for experienced surfers, but it’s a long-range call, so keep an eye on it. The long period might make it a bit straight at the beach sections, but the point part of La Nora should pick it up beautifully.
After that, the surf stays chunky through that weekend, but the winds turn onshore and it gets a bit choppy, so it’s less appealing for paddle surfing. For the kite crew, those cross-onshore days with 6ft+ swell will look more interesting.
Bottom line: the best two windows are the glassy morning of Saturday the 29th of August, and the long-period glassy morning of Thursday the 3rd of September. That’s where the magic is.
