The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk about what’s on the menu at La Nora.
Right now, the outlook is a bit of a mixed bag. We’ve got some days with nothing to write home about, but if you’re patient, there’s a proper window of quality swell coming up, especially for the more experienced crew. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so nothing wild there.
First real glimmer of hope is Thursday morning, August 27th at La Nora (beach and point). We’ve got a solid 5-foot swell rolling in from the NW with a 9-second period. The wind is light and cross-offshore, which is going to keep things clean. Combined wave energy is moderate at 366, and the conditions are looking good. This is a decent option for an intermediate surfer looking for a morning session.
Now, the standout. If you can hold out, Friday morning, August 28th is where it gets serious. The swell jumps to 8 feet from the NW with an 11-second period. That’s a powerful groundswell with strong energy (1493). The wind is light and cross-offshore again, keeping it clean. This is excellent surf, but at 8 feet, it’s firmly in the expert zone. Beginners should sit this one out. The longer period means the waves will have good shape and power, but at a beach and point break, you should be fine. Crowds are often here, so expect company for this one.
After that, things settle down. Sunday morning, August 30th offers another chance with a 4-foot NNW swell and glassy conditions. The energy is light to moderate at 242, and the conditions are good, but it’s not a patch on the Friday swell.
The rest of the forecast into early September is pretty ordinary – small waves, weak energy, and mostly poor conditions. There’s a long gap of nothing special after the 30th. Saturday morning, September 5th does show a long-period 2-foot swell from the NW with a 14-second period and energy at 335, but it’s only marginal. That long period at a beach and point break can be tricky, making it a bit straight. It’s a maybe.
So, to sum it up: Thursday morning the 27th is a good warm-up, but Friday morning the 28th is the one to circle on your calendar – that’s your best shot at some proper, powerful waves. After that, it’s a long wait for anything worthwhile.
