Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's chew the fat on what's coming down the pipe for La Nora over the next couple of weeks. Don't get too excited for the first week, it's a slow grind. The real action is shaping up for that weekend of the 12th into the 13th.
The Long Wait (July 4th to 11th)
The first week is a total bust. From Saturday the 4th right through to Friday the 10th, the surf is tiny and messy. We're talking knee-high slop at best, with the combined energy struggling to get past a weak 132. Most of the time the wind is on it, giving you a cross-chop. There are a few glassy moments on the Monday morning and Thursday morning, but with swell barely hitting 2 ft, it's not worth paddling out for. Just save your energy.
The Window of Hope (July 12th to 14th)
Alright, here we go. Starting Sunday the 12th, we see a decent north-west groundswell starting to show. The combined energy jumps right up into the moderate range – hitting 486 on Sunday morning and climbing to 620 by the afternoon. That's a real step up. The swell is 5 ft to 6 ft, which is a good size for intermediates, though it's a bit punchy for beginners.
The wind is the let-down on Sunday, with a light cross-onshore breeze putting a bit of texture on the surface. Still, it's not a deal-breaker. The swell direction is a consistent NW, which is exactly what La Nora likes.
The Standout
The real standout is Monday the 13th. You're looking at a similar size – around 6 ft to 6 ft of NW swell, with the combined energy sitting at a solid 570. But the big difference? On Monday afternoon, we get glassy conditions. The wind goes flat calm. That's the magic moment. The waves will be clean, lined up, and packing a punch. This is your best shot at a proper session. The period is a touch short at 8 seconds, so it will be a bit more sectiony than a long-period groundswell, but with no wind, it'll still be a hell of a lot of fun.
Tuesday the 14th morning is also worth a glance, with another glassy morning and 4 ft of swell, but the shorter 7-second period won't have the same grunt.
The Fade Out (July 15th onwards)
After that, the swell drops off a cliff. By Wednesday the 15th, we're back to weak, under 3ft wind-affected waves, and the rest of the week is more of the same. The surf essentially dries up.
One thing to mention – the water is running about 69°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year. It's a good four degrees warmer than average, so you can leave the 4/3 at home and be comfortable in a spring suit.
So, to wrap it up: the first week is a total dud, the second weekend is promising but a bit windy, and Monday the 13th afternoon is the hands-down best call of the whole forecast. Set your alarm.
Rusty, out.
