The Lowdown
Alright, it’s your local surf reporter Rusty here. Let me be straight with you—this is a tough one. The next 16 days are looking real flat and barely worth a paddle at La Nora. Zero standouts here, folks. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing to get excited about, with a few mornings that tease you with glassy water but no swell to back it up.
From Tuesday July 14 right through to Thursday July 24 morning, it’s mostly poor surf conditions with tiny swell and mixed winds. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual there. The combined wave energy barely cracks double digits most days, sitting anywhere from 5 to 40 (weak energy), with a few afternoons bumping into the low 100s (moderate) but still too messy to recommend. The winds are glassy some mornings, like Tuesday July 14 and Wednesday July 15, but the swell is around 1ft to 2ft from the north, with short periods of 5 to 7 seconds—just not enough to form a proper wave. You’d be standing there waiting for a ripple.
Friday July 24 morning finally shows a bit of life. Swell bumps up to 3ft from the northwest, period 7 seconds, combined energy hitting 103 (moderate). Winds are glassy—that’s the one true “hmm, maybe” moment in the whole outlook. It’s surfable but very ordinary, and for a break that’s fairly consistent and exposed to the north-northwest, this is a real letdown. That’s the only time in the whole 16 days where you might get a couple of knee-high plus waves that are clean.
After that, it’s back to tiny stuff through the end of July, with only a few more mornings of glassy conditions and swell around 2ft to 3ft from the northwest. Periods stay under 10 seconds, so no real power or push. The combined energy tops out around 106 (moderate) on Wednesday July 29 morning, but it’s still only “surfable but very ordinary.”
Bottom line: there’s nothing to call a standout here. Not a single day where the swell, wind, and conditions line up for a proper session. If you’re desperate, maybe pencil in the morning of Friday July 24 for a glassy paddle on tiny waves, but don’t expect much. This is a blank run for sure. Forecasts can change, but right now I’d be leaving the board at home.
