Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for La Nora over the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, this stretch is a tough one. The entire 16-day window is littered with poor surf conditions and tiny swell. You’re looking at a long, dry spell with next to nothing rideable for the first 13 days. The first real glimmer of hope doesn’t show up until Tuesday the 21st of July, and even then it’s marginal.
From now until Monday the 20th, expect flat to tiny waves – we’re talking 0.7ft to 2ft at best, with very weak combined swell energy, usually well under 100 (some days barely hitting 21 to 97). Winds are mostly light and cross-onshore, or onshore, with a few glassy moments on Tuesday the 14th morning but still barely a ripple. Water temp is sitting around 69°F, which is about 4°F warmer than usual for this time of year – a touch warmer than normal, nice for a paddle but not for a wave. The whole period is a write-off for a proper surf.
Finally, on Tuesday the 21st of July, we get a tiny pulse. The morning shows 3ft of swell from the NNW, with a period around 6 seconds and combined energy at 59 (weak). That’s not great, but the wind turns glassy, which is a huge bonus for clean conditions. The wave comment even says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions” – and that’s as good as it gets. It’s an intermediate spot, but with this size, it’s safe for most. Crowds are possible here at La Nora, so you might have a few others with the same idea. The swell direction (NNW) matches the optimum for this break, so the point and beach setup might just offer a few fun little runners at around knee to waist high. Don’t expect much, but it’s the only thing breaking in the whole outlook.
Come Wednesday the 22nd morning, a similar deal: 3ft from the north, also glassy, also weak energy (76). Still tiny, still clean. After that, the windows close again. It’s a grim run for La Nora. Conditions look more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing on the 20th when the wind picks up to 19 mph and swell hits 4ft, rough and choppy.
So, the only real standout is a couple of mornings right at the very end of the window: Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd of July. Tiny, clean, and the only game in town. Keep an eye on the forecast – it tends not to stay this poor for long, but right now, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
