Table - best surf conditions forecast for La Nora over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s just get into it. I’ve looked over this outlook and, honestly, it’s a tough read for La Nora. We’re stuck in a long stretch of weak, short-period bumps from the north that don’t have any push behind them. There are long gaps with nothing rideable at all.
We start on July 13th with some tiny, wind-affected waves. The energy is barely there (combined energy between 22 and 66) and the period is really short, around 5 to 8 seconds. The wind is cross-onshore for most of the first week, which just messes up what little shape there is. On the 15th and the 17th, we get glimpses of glassy conditions in the mornings with winds going light or glass, but the swell is way too small – 1ft to 2ft – to do anything on a beach and point setup. It is just a flat spell.
The only real standout comes later, but it’s still far out. The morning of July 20th looks like the best bet. We get a pulse of NW swell hitting 5ft, with an 8-second period and a combined energy jumping to 274. Winds are glassy out of the north, so it should be super clean. That’s the session to circle on your calendar, but it’s over a week away. The afternoon looks worse, so hit it early. The morning of July 28th is another one to watch: a 6ft NNW groundswell with an 11-second period, glassy north winds, and energy of 891. That’s a serious long-period swell, and at that size, it’s more for the confident surfer. For a beach and point, that period might make it a bit tricky, but with that wind and size, it could set up nicely out at La Nora. Again, that’s two weeks out.
For the rest of the days it’s pretty grim. We have mornings on the 24th and 26th of July where the swell is ankle-knee high and the wind goes glassy, but the waves are just ordinary. Not worth paddling out for. The real big swell on July 27th brings 6ft waves and lots of energy (764-738), but the wind is cross-onshore and choppy, putting it in a "marginal" category. At that size, a messy wind on a beach break is a write-off.
So, the outlook is poor for a solid run. If you’re patient, you’ll get one or two clean windows, especially on July 20th and the morning of July 28th. For the rest, I’d save the wax.
Rusty.
