The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s on offer for Xivares.
To be honest, the first stretch is a total dud. From Monday the 17th through Wednesday the 20th of August, you’ve got nothing – swell under 3 ft, weak energy, and onshore breezes making it a mess. Not worth paddling out.
Then Thursday the 20th of August afternoon things finally wake up. A NNW swell pushes to 5 ft with a 12 second period, and the wind turns glassy. That’s clean, solid surf with moderate energy (612). Not huge, but a real improvement.
Friday the 21st of August morning is the best of the first week. Swell holds at 6 ft from the NNW, 10 second period, and dead calm wind. Combined energy is strong (629). This is clean, shoulder-to-head-high waves with good shape. Great for intermediate surfers.
The weekend turns ugly again – swell drops, wind shifts onshore. By Monday the 24th and Tuesday the 25th, we get a pulse of swell around 5 ft to 7 ft from the NNE, but the period is short (7 seconds) and the wind is lumpy. That's more of a kite-surfing setup than a good paddle session.
There’s a quiet spell, then the big news comes at the very end. On Monday the 31st of August, we get a very long-period groundswell from the NNW – 17 seconds, only 4 ft, but the energy is massive (1365). Glassy morning conditions. That’s excellent for experienced surfers – long, clean, powerful lines, best handled on a reef or point.
Then Tuesday the 1st of September morning is the biggest swell of the window: 8 ft from the NNW with a 14 second period and clean cross-offshore wind. That’s expert-only territory – massive energy (2441). The afternoon gets ruined by strong onshore wind.
So the two real standouts are Friday morning the 21st of August for fun, clean waves, and Monday the 31st of August morning for that long-period glassy groundswell – that’s the one to plan around. Tuesday the 1st of September is for the brave only.
Keep your eyes on the calendar, and don’t bother with the early week.
