The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with it – the next two weeks around Cala De Meron are a real mixed bag. There’s a bit of a flat spell to kick things off, but if you’re patient, there’s a couple of mornings that’ll get the blood pumping.
First up, we’ve got a quiet start. Sunday the 23rd is barely worth a mention with a weak 3ft northerly swell and minimal energy (117). The water’s sitting at 72°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – feels like a summer holdover. Monday and Tuesday are dead flat, with swell dropping to 0.7ft on Tuesday morning. It’s a gap of a few days with nothing to get excited about, so save the wax.
Come Thursday morning the 27th, things perk up a little. A 4ft northwest swell (157 energy) rolls in with glassy conditions. It’s surfable but nothing special – just enough to wet the board.
Now, the standout. Friday the 28th morning is where it gets real. We’re looking at a solid 8ft northwest groundswell with a period of 11 seconds and a serious energy reading of 1744. That’s moderate to strong energy, and with a clean cross-off wind from the west, it’s going to be punchy. This is expert territory – anything over 8ft is no place for beginners. The long period means better shaped waves, longer lulls, and more power. Just watch that afternoon wind swings onshore and gets messy. Friday morning is the session to chase.
Saturday the 29th morning is another good call. The swell drops to a more manageable 5ft from the northwest (430 energy), and with glassy conditions again, it’ll be clean and fun for a wider range of surfers.
After that, the energy fades. Sunday the 30th is small and weak, but Monday the 31st morning brings a rebound – 5ft northwest swell (253 energy) and glassy wind. Worth a look if you missed the weekend.
The second week turns quiet. From Tuesday the 1st of September through to the end of the outlook, it’s mostly small, short-period slop with onshore or cross-shore winds. The swell rarely cracks 3ft, and energy stays low. Nothing worth paddling out for unless you’re desperate for a glide.
So to wrap it up: the best bet is Friday the 28th morning for the big, clean northwest groundswell – but only for the experienced crew. Saturday the 29th and Monday the 31st mornings are your best bets for the rest of us.
Stay stoked.
