The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way.
Right now, and for the next little while, it’s pretty grim. There’s no surf worth paddling out for until Monday the 20th. That’s a solid stretch of flat, weak, and messy conditions with hardly any energy in the water. We’re looking at a run of poor surf with tiny swell and mostly cross or onshore winds, so don’t bother suiting up before then.
The first hint of something comes Monday morning the 20th at Cala De Meron. Swell bumps up to 4ft from the north, period short at 7 seconds, and combined energy hits 212 (moderate). The wind is light and onshore from the NNW though – not ideal – so it’s marginal at best. Still, it’s the first sign of life.
Things stay pretty ordinary through the week. Tuesday through Friday sees waist-to-chest high swell, mostly 4ft to 5ft, but the wind is all over the shop – cross, cross-on, and onshore. That keeps the surface chopped and the quality well below average. The best of a bad bunch might be Thursday morning the 23rd with 4ft and light cross-on from the NW, but the energy is only 80 (weak) and the period is short. Not worth rushing for.
Now, keep an eye on the end of the month. Wednesday the 29th morning brings a notable pulse: 5ft from the NW, period up to 9 seconds, and moderate energy at 449. Winds are light cross-on from the NE, which isn't perfect but is manageable. This is the standout of the whole outlook. It’s still over a week away, so don’t book the day off just yet, but it’s the best chance for something with a bit of push.
Thursday the 30th morning holds similar but a touch smaller at 4ft from the NW, still 9 second period, energy at 253 (moderate), and light onshore from the NNE. Okay, not great. Then Friday the 31st morning drops to 3ft from the NW, period still 9 seconds, energy down to 185 (moderate), but the wind goes glassy from the WNW. Clean face, but small.
Honestly, this is a lean run. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing weird there. If you’re desperate, Wednesday the 29th morning has the most potential, but keep your expectations low. If the wind had been offshore, we’d be talking a different story.
Rusty.
