G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s have a look at the 16-day outlook for Cala De Meron.
Honestly, mate, right now through to Thursday the 10th of July the surf is just not happening. We’re talking knee-high dribble or less most days. There’s the odd tiny pulse around 2 ft to 2 ft but the combined energy is weak as dishwater (between 17 and 95) and the conditions are mostly ordinary with cross-shore or onshore breezes. Not worth paddling out.
The first half of this run is pretty bleak for decent waves. There’s a small window on Thursday morning the 9th – it’s glassy with a 2 ft NW swell, period a reasonable 10 seconds, and combined energy at 60. It’s described as “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions”, but the score still says nah. Honestly, on a glassy morning with that tiny swell you might get a few knee- to waist-high peelers if you’re desperate and a beginner, but it’s not going to get your heart racing.
The whole stretch from now up until Thursday the 16th of July is pretty much a write-off for any proper surf. There’s no real standout in there.
Now, look to Friday the 17th of July. That’s a whole 13 days away, so treat this as a long-range whisper, not a certainty. The morning shows a 5 ft NW swell with a 9-second period – combined energy jumps right up to 385, moderate energy at last. Winds are cross-shore from the WNW at 9 mph, so there’ll be a slight chop but it’s not terrible. The afternoon builds to 7 ft from the NNW, energy hitting 802 – strong energy – but the wind stays cross-onshore from the NW at 9 mph, so it’ll be a bit lumpy. That size is getting into big territory – over 5 ft and nearly 8 ft, so it’s more for experienced surfers, and the period is only 9 seconds which isn’t long period, so it won’t be the cleanest groundswell. The break is a beginner spot when small, but at this size it’s pushing limits. The optimum swell direction for this spot is NNW, and the afternoon swell is coming from exactly that direction – that’s a good match.
Saturday the 18th still has solid size – 5 ft to 6 ft from the N, combined energy around 470, but the wind turns more onshore and choppier, so it’s not great.
If I had to point to anything as the best on offer, it’s that Friday the 17th of July – specifically the afternoon when the swell direction lines up and the energy is strong. But it’s far out, so don’t lock it in yet. The water temperature at the start of the period is 69°F with an anomaly of 4° – that’s much warmer than normal for this time of year, which feels great if you get in.
Overall, this region is serving up a lot of flat and poor conditions. The standout window is a week and a half away and uncertain. Stay patient, check the updates.
Rusty.
