The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it. This is Rusty.
Right now, we’re looking at a pretty quiet start for Cala De Meron. There’s really nothing on offer for the first few days, and honestly, the surf quality is poor right off the bat. The beginning of this outlook is flat, weak, and not worth getting wet for. The first couple of days, Monday the 17th and Tuesday the 18th, are tiny little bumps – nothing over 2ft, messy cross-onshore winds, and weak energy. Not a single decent wave in sight there.
Wednesday the 19th is dead flat – 0.7ft to 1ft and basically no energy at all. That’s a total write-off.
Now, the first real shift comes on Thursday the 20th of August. The morning is marginal, with some light rain and light cross-onshore, but the swell bump is showing 3ft from the NNW at a 12-second period. That’s some decent period there, and the energy jumps up. But the real gem is Thursday afternoon – glassy conditions, 3ft from the N at 11 seconds, and strong moderate energy. That’s a proper session, and with glassy conditions, that’s a standout. Cala De Meron is an exposed spot, so that NNW to N swell will wrap in nicely. Keep in mind the period is over 11 seconds, so expect longer gaps between sets, but the shape should be clean.
Friday the 21st is also promising. Friday morning looks glassy again, 4ft from the NW at 10 seconds, with strong energy. That’s another strong session. The afternoon turns a bit cross-onshore, so the morning window is the one to lock in.
After Friday, the surf drops off again. Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd are weaker, with smaller swell, cross-shore winds, and low energy. Not worth paddling out.
Monday the 24th and Tuesday the 25th have some glassy mornings with 2ft and 5ft, but the conditions are “very ordinary” – the energy is modest, and the waves are pretty average. Tuesday afternoon even gets choppy and messy with 12 mph cross-onshore winds.
Then from Wednesday the 26th all the way through to the end of the month, it’s mostly small, weak surf with poor conditions. The swell barely hits 3ft, and the wind is often onshore or cross. Energy is low to moderate at best.
Now, looking further out: on Sunday the 30th of August, there’s a morning pulse of 5ft from the NW at 9 seconds, with moderate energy. But cross-shore winds and rain make it marginal. Really not a standout.
The true highlight in the second week lands on Monday the 31st of August. That morning has 4ft from the NW at 10 seconds, with cross-offshore winds and clean conditions. The energy is solid, and the waves should have good shape. This is the best call in the whole outlook – clean, decent size, and well-directed swell.
Overall, the best surf to chase is Thursday afternoon the 20th and Friday morning the 21st, then that Monday the 31st morning session. Everything else is either flat, weak, or blown out. There’s a big gap of small, poor-quality days between those windows, so pick your moments carefully.
