The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, let’s have a look at what’s coming our way at Cala De Meron.
Right now, we’re in a flat spell. The first week or so is a bit of a write-off, with tiny, weak swell and mostly onshore or messy wind. There’s a long gap with nothing really worth paddling out for. From Tuesday morning the 18th right through to about the morning of Friday the 21st, it’s all undersized, poorly shaped, or straight-up choppy. You’re looking at ankle-snappers and wind bumps.
Then, things start to show a pulse. Friday morning the 21st kicks off a run of slightly better conditions. The swell bumps up to 4ft from the NW with a 10-second period, and the wind is light and clean, coming offshore from the WSW. The wave energy jumps to a solid moderate reading (420). It’s not a massive day, but after the dry spell, it’ll feel like a godsend. Conditions look clean for a morning session, but the afternoon turns messy again with rain and onshore wind, so get in early.
Saturday morning the 22nd serves up glassy conditions with the same 4ft of NW swell, but the energy drops back (176) and it’s pretty ordinary. Not terrible, but not a standout.
The real highlight, the one you want to circle on the calendar, is Monday the 1st of September. That morning, we’ve got a proper pulse of 5ft of NNW groundswell, with a period of 11 seconds, pushing the combined energy up into strong territory (637). The wind is light, cross-off from the SSE, setting it up for clean, lined-up waves. This is a beginner-friendly spot, and with that size, it’s still manageable and fun. The water is a touch warmer than usual for the time of year, about 72°F, which is nice. Crowds can be a factor here sometimes, so don’t expect to have it to yourself. The swell direction (NNW) lines up nicely with the break’s preferred window.
The afternoon of that day turns onshore and messy, so hit the dawny. There’s also some decent energy on the 2nd of September, with 6ft of long-period NNW swell (12 seconds, energy at 782), but the wind is questionable, and that size is starting to push it for a beginner break. If you’re experienced, the morning of the 2nd might offer some powerful, clean lines if the cross-shore wind plays ball, but it’s a gamble.
So, to sum it up: the first week and a half is mostly a washout. The only true standout is the morning of Monday the 1st of September – that’s your best bet for clean, fun, and punchy waves.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
