The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.
Truth is, it’s a pretty quiet stretch for the most part. We’re looking at a long, flat spell right out of the gate, with no real surf on offer for the first several days. The swell is small, the wind is messy, and conditions are just plain poor. There’s a gap from now until around the 27th of July where the surf is barely worth a mention. Then things get a little more interesting, but it’s never gonna be a classic.
The one spot on the radar is Cala De Meron, a beginner-friendly, fairly consistent beach break that’s exposed to the north-northwest. It’s a spot that’s sometimes got a few others out, so don’t expect a total empty lineup.
The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing to write home about in terms of a warm or cold blast.
The first real chance of a paddle comes on Monday the 27th of July. Early morning, the wind goes glassy, with a little 1ft groundswell rolling in from the NNW with a period of 11 seconds. That’s a long period, giving the waves a bit of shape and energy, but the combined energy is a weak 87, so it’s tiny. It’s surfable, but you’ll be fighting for every little bump. The glassy conditions are a major plus, though – it’ll be super clean.
The following week from the 29th of July onward sees a steady increase in size. The swell direction stays out of the NNW, which is good for the spot. The wind is mostly cross or cross-on from the east, which isn’t perfect, but it’s not terrible. The best-looking window is the morning of Saturday the 1st of August. The swell is 5ft from the NNW, period 10 seconds, and the combined energy is a solid 517 – that’s moderate to strong wave energy. The wind is a gentle cross-shore from the east, so it’ll be a little bumpy but workable. This is the standout of the whole forecast. The waves will have some push, but at 5ft it’s still manageable for a confident beginner. It’s not a huge day, but it’s the best we’ve got.
The Sunday morning of the 2nd of August is a slight step down, with 4ft and the same cross-shore wind, but the energy drops off to 306. Still a fun session, just not as punchy.
The rest of the second week is a mixed bag of small, cross-shore chop and marginal conditions. Nothing else really jumps out. The early flat spell is a bummer, but the Saturday morning on the 1st of August is the one to circle on your calendar. It’s a long way out, so don’t bet the farm on it, but it’s the best look we’ve got.
This is Rusty, signing off.
