The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for Cala De Meron over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it's a tough one. We're looking at a long stretch of small, weak, and messy conditions. The water is sitting at a very warm 71°, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year, so that's a bit of a treat. But the surf? It's mostly a write-off. There are a few fleeting moments where things might be just about rideable, but nothing that's going to get you jumping out of bed.
The first real chance to get wet is on the morning of Monday, July 20th. The swell bumps up to 5 ft from the NNE, but it's a short-period, confused 7-second windswell. The combined energy is moderate (244), but it's crossed-up with a light cross-onshore breeze. It's a marginal call at best, likely more frustrating than fun. That afternoon, it gets bigger at 6 ft, but the wind picks up and it turns choppy.
Tuesday the 21st is similar, with a 5 ft to 7 ft cross-shore mess. The wind is light in the morning, keeping it a bit cleaner, but with a 7-second period, it's just not going to have any shape to it.
The standout session, the only one that feels like a real surf, is the morning of Wednesday, July 22nd. The swell drops to 4 ft from the NNE, still a short 6-second period, but the wind goes glassy. That's a huge positive. You'll find clean, if small, lines. The energy is still weak (141), so don't expect any power, but for a beginner-friendly spot, this is your window. The conditions are "surfable but very ordinary," but with that glassy water, it's the best you'll get.
After that, it's a slow fade. The morning of Thursday, July 23rd, is glassy again, but the swell is down to just 3 ft with very weak energy (58). It's a longboard or a foamie day if you're desperate.
The rest of the outlook is a desert. From the 24th of July all the way through to the 3rd of August, the swell is tiny, the wind is mostly onshore or cross-shore, and the wave energy is pathetically low. There's a pulse of longer-period groundswell on the 26th (12 seconds), but it's only 1 ft and crossed-up with a 12 mph wind. It's a tease. The 28th and 29th see a bump in energy, but it's paired with poor conditions.
So, to sum it up: the only real window worth paddling out for is the glassy, small morning of Wednesday, July 22nd. For the rest of the 16 days, you're better off checking the forecast again in a few days.
Rusty.
