The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get real about the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, the surf outlook is looking pretty grim. We’ve got a long stretch of flat, weak conditions that’s going to test your patience. The good news is that the water is running about 10°F warmer than normal for this time of year, which is a wild outlier and means you can probably get away with just boardshorts and a light rashie if you’re brave.
There’s basically nothing on the cards for the next week and a half. From Wednesday the 9th through to the 18th, the swell is tiny, mostly under 2ft, and the period is a short, crumbly 3-6 seconds. That’s not real surf, that’s just bump. The combined energy readings are weak, mostly single digits, with nothing over 10. It’s a whole lot of nothing. If you’re thinking of paddling out at St Laurent du Var (Côte d'Azur) during this time, you’ll be doing more floating than surfing. It’s a river break, so it needs a bit of push to get going, and it just doesn’t have it.
We finally see a tiny pulse of life on the afternoon of Monday the 21st, with a modest 2ft of east swell and an energy reading of 17. The period is still short at 4 seconds, so don't expect any real power. The winds are a cross-shore, making it a bit messy. It’s not a day to get excited about.
The only other time things even look slightly interesting is the morning of Tuesday the 22nd with a cross-offshore wind, but the swell is back down to 1ft. The afternoon rebuilds a little to 2ft, but it's still junky.
Honestly, for the entire 16-day window, there are no standout sessions, no days where you’d call in sick or race down the coast. The long-range stuff around the 23rd and 24th is just flat and rainy. This is one of those stretches where the forecast is pretty much telling you to find something else to do. The best move is to keep an eye on the charts, because with water this warm, the first real swell that finds us could be a scorcher, but for now, the boards are staying in the car.
