Alright, Rusty here, checking in with the outlook for La Nartelle.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – things are looking pretty flat and quiet for the next couple of weeks. We’re staring down a long, dry spell with next to no swell on the cards.
Starting from this Saturday, the 4th of July, right through to the morning of Tuesday the 7th, there’s just no surf to speak of. Zero energy in the water. The wind’s been a bit all over the place, with some light breezes and glassy moments on the 5th and 9th, but without any swell, it’s just a pretty lake. The water temperature is sitting at 79°F, which is a whopping 9°F warmer than average for this time of year – that’s incredibly warm, but still not gonna push a wave in.
We finally see a tiny blip on Tuesday afternoon the 7th, a bit of a southeast swell at 0.3ft, but it’s short period (4 seconds) and cross-onshore, so it’s barely a ripple. The energy reading is a weak 1, so don't bother paddling out. That little hint of a wave fades again, and we're back to nothingness for days.
The same story plays out through the 8th, 9th, and 10th. You’ll see those glassy mornings, especially on the 9th and 11th with a NNE wind, but it’s a flat calm. A few times we get a tiny 0.3ft or 0.7ft bump, like on Sunday the 12th afternoon from the south, and Tuesday the 14th afternoon from the east, but with periods of 3 to 5 seconds and cross or onshore wind, it's not even worth a look. The overall energy stays at 1, so these are just not real waves.
The only potential standout, and I’m using that term loosely, is the end of the run. On Saturday the 18th of July and into Sunday the 19th, the wind shifts hard to a WNW. On Saturday, it’s gonna be blowing a solid 25 mph straight offshore. That means the surface will be clean as a whistle, but with that kind of wind you’ll be fighting it just to hold your position. It might be interesting for a glimpse if you’re keen on a serious battle, but the swell numbers are still zero. Sunday the 19th morning looks cleaner and lighter with the offshore wind, but again, no swell.
Overall, this is a brutal stretch for surf. There’s simply no energy in the water. For the whole 16-day window, I can't point to one proper surf session. If you absolutely need to be in the water, a kite might be your only friend here with that strong offshore wind on the 18th, because for paddle surfing, La Nartelle is a no-go.
Rusty.
