The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s get stuck into this one.
Right off the bat, I gotta be honest with you – this 16-day window is looking pretty flat for La Nartelle. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing much on offer here. The first few days from Thursday the 20th of August right through to the end of the month, it’s mostly tiny, weak dribble or just no surf at all. The water is sitting at 83°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – feels like bathwater, but that’s about the only thing worth noting.
The only real glimmer of hope comes in the second week. On Wednesday the 3rd of September, we see a bit of a bump. The morning session is looking the pick of the whole run. Expect a clean 1ft swell from the east-northeast, with a period of 6 seconds and a light offshore breeze from the northwest keeping things tidy. The combined energy is only moderate at 23, so it’s not going to be a day for the record books, but for a spot that’s been this quiet, it’s something. La Nartelle is a beginner-friendly, sheltered spot, and it’s inconsistent, so you’ll need a bit of patience. The afternoon that same day gets a little choppy, so hit it early.
The next day, Friday the 4th of September, also has a short window with a clean 0.7ft to 2ft swell from the east, with a period of 4 to 5 seconds and a fresh offshore wind from the west in the afternoon. The energy picks up to 21, which is still moderate. Again, it’s not going to blow you away, but it’s the most surf we’ve seen in a while.
Honestly, if you’re hanging for a wave, the 3rd of September morning is your best bet. It’s nothing special, but it’s clean and haveable. The rest of the outlook is a write-off for paddle surfing – low energy, no size, and a lot of onshore junk. If you’re into kiting, there might be a few more options with the stronger winds, but for a surfboard, it’s slim pickings.
Rusty.
