The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – this outlook is a tough one. We’re looking at a flat spell that just won’t quit. The first time we even see a ripple on the cards is on July 19th, but even then it’s barely a whisper. We’re talking a solid week of nothing worth paddling out for, stretching from the start of the period all the way through to the end of July. It’s a real dry spell.
The only spot in the game is La Nartelle. It’s a sheltered beginner’s break, and it’s inconsistent at the best of times. The water temp is sitting at a balmy 81°F, which is a whopping 9°F warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s seriously unusual, like swimming in a bath.
Honestly, the best we’ve got is a couple of minor windows. On Friday morning, July 24th, we might see a tiny 2ft swell from the ENE with a period of 5 seconds. The wind will be a light cross-offshore, keeping things clean. The combined energy is a paltry 26 (weak). It’s nothing to get excited about for a surfer, but it’s the cleanest and most rideable it’ll be for a beginner to mess around on a soft top.
Then there’s Thursday morning, July 30th. The wind is forecast to be glassy, which is a major positive. But the swell is barely a pulse – 0.3ft from the south with a 7-second period. The energy is just 2 (weak). It’s not surfable by any stretch, but the glassy conditions are a tease.
After that, we get a little bump on Friday morning, July 31st, with a 1ft south swell, 7-second period, and light cross-offshore winds. Again, combined energy is only 9 (weak). It’s clean, but tiny.
The rest of the forecast is a dead loss. Nothing but onshore winds and flat lines. A few days in early August look glassy, but with no swell to back it up, it’s like having a perfect canvas with no paint.
If you’re a kite surfer, the afternoon on July 24th has a 3ft east swell with a 12 mph cross-onshore wind could be more interesting than anything we’ll see for a paddle. For the rest of us, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
