The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty. I’m gonna be straight with you: the outlook for La Nartelle over the next sixteen days is a bummer. There’s just no swell worth talking about. The finder is basically empty, which means we’re looking at a long, flat stretch from now until the very end of the forecast. It’s going to be a tough run for anybody hoping to get a wave.
Even though there’s nothing to paddle for, let’s talk about what little is there. On Wednesday the 19th, the water is sitting at a very warm 83°F – that’s a massive 9°F above normal for this time of year. That’s not just a little warm; it’s bathwater. But for surf, it’s a total washout. The swell energy is zero (0) and the wave comment just says “poor surf conditions.” It’s dead.
There’s a tiny flicker of life on Thursday morning the 20th of August. We get a glassy morning with about 1ft of southerly swell and a period of only 4 seconds. That’s a weak, short-period windswell – combined energy is just 2. It’s tiny and gutless. For a beginner spot that’s already inconsistent and sheltered, that’s nothing to get excited about. The offshore wind direction is west, which is good for La Nartelle, but 1ft of chop won’t give you a ride worth remembering. On Friday the 21st morning, we see about 2ft from the south with a 5-second period and a clean offshore breeze from the WNW, giving us a combined swell energy of 11. That’s the “biggest” of the whole window, but 2ft is ankle-slapper territory. It’s still too small for any real fun.
After that, it’s back to flatness. Saturday the 22nd onwards is a desert. Day after day of zeros. We get a few mornings with offshore winds – west-northwest winds up to 19 mph or even 22 mph on September 1st – but there’s no swell to groom. The wind is just blowing over a smooth, flat sea. That’s a kite surfer’s dream, not a surfer’s. The setup here is a beach, but with zero swell, it’s irrelevant.
So, bottom line: there is no standout session in this 16-day window. The first real gap is from now until the end of August, and then it just continues flat through the first few days of September. We don’t have a single day with a score above zero in the finder. If you absolutely have to get wet, the best you’ll find is that 2ft Friday morning the 21st, but even that’s a long shot. For an area like this that’s already inconsistent, this kind of blank run can happen, but it always turns around eventually. Forecasts can change.
Stay dry, or take up kitesurfing for now. This is Rusty, signing off.
