The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, with the look ahead for the next couple of weeks.
To be honest, it’s a tough stretch for La Nartelle. For the next several days, and for most of the 16-day window, there’s nothing happening. We’re looking at flat spells and periods where the swell is too weak or blown out. The water is sitting at a very warm 82°F, which is about 8°F warmer than usual for this time of year—that’s really unusual, making it feel like a warm bath, but the waves just aren’t there.
There’s a long gap of flat or nearly flat days with no real recommendation until the end of August. The first hint of anything comes on Thursday, the 27th of August, but it’s not good. That morning we get some easterly swell at 2ft, period of just 4 seconds—short period, weak energy (9). The wind is straight onshore from the east at 18 mph, making it messy. That afternoon, the swell bumps up to 4ft, still from the east with a 5-second period, but the wind is still onshore and strong (18 mph). The combined energy is only 81, which is weak. This is not one for the paddle surfers; with the strong onshore wind and small, weak swell, it’s more of a kite-surfing setup.
Moving into Friday the 28th of August, we get a small window. Morning sees clean conditions with a gentle offshore from the west at 9 mph. The swell is 2ft from the south, with a period of 7 seconds—still a bit short, and the combined energy is 25, so weak. The afternoon turns windier, with a fresh offshore from the west at 18 mph. The swell drops to 0.7ft from the south. It’s clean, but extremely small. The energy is only 3.
From the 29th of August onward, it’s mostly flat again with no swell energy. There are plenty of clean, glassy days, but nothing to ride. One standout morning on the 2nd of September is completely glassy with no wind and flat surf—great for a swim, not for a surf.
Honestly, the only surf worth mentioning is that brief window on Friday the 28th of August morning. La Nartelle is an inconsistent, sheltered beginner beach break, and even then, the swell is tiny. If you’re a beginner just wanting a splash on a foam board, that Friday morning with the clean offshore wind and 2ft south swell might be your best and only bet. Otherwise, the forecast looks like a pretty normal blank run for this area. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a waiting game.
