The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, checking the charts for the local stretch. Gotta be straight with you – the 16-day window ahead is looking pretty grim for laying down a decent turn. There’s a long dry spell to start.
We’re kicking off on Friday, 21 August. There’s a tiny ankle-biter of a swell showing at La Nartelle, with a 1ft SSE puff and a short period of 4 seconds. The combined energy is only 7 (weak). But it’s no good, mate – there’s moderate rain and cross winds that have got the surface chopped up. Not worth paddling out for.
Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd? Absolutely flat. No swell offering anything, just clean morning winds on the 22nd and 23rd but nothing to surf.
Moving through the rest of that week, from Monday the 24th through Thursday the 27th of August, we see a few pulses of easterly windswell popping up. The heights bobble from 1.0ft to 3ft, but the period is a shocking 3 to 4 seconds. The energy stays weak, hitting only 28 (still weak) on the Thursday afternoon. And all of it is getting smashed by onshore winds. It's a total washout for surfing.
There’s a fleeting moment on Friday morning the 28th of August. Wind goes glassy, with a light NW breeze, and we get a little 1ft from the SSE with a 5-second period. But it’s just a ghost – energy is only 9 (weak). You could have a sit on a longboard, but it’s no thrill.
The 29th to the 31st of August and into the beginning of September are a desert. Flat mornings, tiny dribbles in the afternoons. Nothing doing.
Now here’s the only standout in the whole outlook – it’s a stretch though. On Tuesday, 1 September, we get a bit of a bump. The morning shows a 2ft easterly swell, with a 4-second period, and an energy of 43 (moderate). The wind is offshore from the WNW at 25 km/h, which will clean it up for La Nartelle. But the real kicker is the afternoon: the swell picks up to 4ft from the east, period still only 4 seconds, but the energy climbs to 70 (moderate). The wind goes to 40 km/h straight offshore from the west. It’s going to be strong offshore and clean, but that wind is howling – it’ll be hard to paddle into and choppy. For a beginner break like La Nartelle, 4ft is manageable, but that wind strength will make it a battle. This is a promising call for strong, clean walls, but pretty long-range and less certain.
After that, it fades again quickly. Wednesday, 2 September, has a small 1ft SSE swell with offshore winds, but the energy is gone. From Thursday the 3rd onward, we’re back to flat or tiny dribble with cross-onshore winds.
To be honest, this is a typical blank run for this area. We've got a gap of close to a fortnight of virtually nothing, then one afternoon of promise on the 1st of September. Forecasts can shift, so keep an eye on it, but for now, the boards are staying in the bag.
Stay tuned,
Rusty
