The Lowdown
Alright, let me take a look at what’s happening here. Honestly, the outlook for the next couple of weeks is pretty flat. There’s a real lack of any decent swell energy pushing in, and the few bits of wave action that do show up are small and junky. It’s going to be a long stretch of poor surf conditions, with nothing really worth paddling out for.
We start off with a long gap of no real surf. The first few days are a write-off. Sunday the 19th has tiny 0.7ft to 0.3ft swell from the south, with a weak period of 3 to 5 seconds, and combined energy is just a pathetic 1. Not even worth a splash. The wind is cross-off, but the swell is just too small to do anything. Monday the 20th is even worse, with a flat morning and a tiny 1ft onshore bump in the afternoon. The pattern continues all the way through to the end of July and into early August. You’ll see mornings with glassy conditions, like Tuesday the 21st, but there’s zero swell. Or Wednesday the 22nd brings a little 2ft, but it’s cross-onshore and choppy. It’s a real drag.
The best of a bad bunch, if you can call it that, shows up on Friday the 24th of July. The afternoon has a 4ft swell from the east, with a period of 5 seconds. The combined energy is still weak at 69. It’s small, onshore, and messy. Not a standout at all. Then on Saturday the 2nd of August, the morning turns glassy with a tiny 0.7ft south swell, but again, it’s just too small to surf.
For the break itself, La Nartelle is a sheltered beginner spot, and it’s inconsistent. With the water temperature sitting at a very unusual 82°F, which is far warmer than normal for this time of year, the water is like a bath. That’s a notable anomaly, but it doesn’t help the waves.
Given the combination of no real swell, poor surf quality, and the fact this is a sheltered beach break, this setup honestly looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. There’s just nothing here for a surfer to get excited about over the entire 16-day window. It’s a blank run, and for this area, that’s pretty normal when the swell windows aren’t lining up.
