The Lowdown
Right then, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a pretty quiet stretch ahead. The water is sitting at a toasty 81°, which is far warmer than normal for this time of year, so you’ll be in boardies and a rashie, no doubt about that.
The first week is a write-off, I’m afraid. From Sunday the 19th right through to Monday the 27th, the swell is near non-existent, and what little bump there is comes with the wrong wind or no energy at all. You’ll see a few tiny ripples, maybe 0.7ft to 1.0ft, but with poor surf conditions and combined energy barely registering (1), it’s not worth paddling out for. The only real whisper of life comes on Monday afternoon the 27th, when a pulse of 6ft ENE swell shows up with a period of 6 seconds and combined energy of 193 (moderate), but it’s cross-shore wind and the comment says poor surf conditions. That’s a miss, lads.
Then on Tuesday morning the 28th, we get a brief moment of hope. La Nartelle will see a 3ft S swell, period of 7 seconds, and a clean cross-offshore breeze from the NW. The combined energy is 136 (moderate), and the conditions are surfable but very ordinary. It’s the best we’ve got, but it’s not a standout – it’s just a session to get wet. The water is still that warm anomaly, but the waves are nothing to write home about. After that, it drops right back to flat again through the rest of the week and into the start of August.
So, there’s a single day (Tuesday 28th July) that offers a tiny window, but it’s not a classic. If you’re desperate, you’ll get a few small, clean waves at La Nartelle that morning, but don’t expect much. For the rest of the 16 days, you’re looking at a long gap of flat, glassy mornings and onshore afternoons. Keep an eye on the forecasts, but for now, it’s a quiet spell.
Rusty.
