Table - best surf conditions forecast for Playa de Gaztetape over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here, lettin’ you know what’s up at Playa de Gaztetape for the next couple weeks. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, so let’s get into it.
Right off the bat, we’re lookin’ at a pretty quiet start. It’s not until Monday morning, July 13, that things even get surfable, and even then it’s only just. That morning you’ve got a 3.6ft swell from the NW, but the period is a short, weak 7 seconds with only moderate wave energy (113). The wind is glassy though – dead calm – which is a huge plus for a beginner spot like this. The water is *much* warmer than normal for this time of year, sittin’ at 76° and a whopping 7.6° above average, so you won’t need a thick suit.
After that, we hit a real dry spell. From Monday afternoon right through to Sunday, July 19, the waves are tiny – under 3ft – and for days on end it’s either onshore or cross-onshore makin’ a proper mess of things. There’s a brief window on the morning of Sunday the 19th with some glassy 3ft conditions, but the energy is still low.
The real action, the one to circle on your calendar, is Saturday, July 25. This is the standout. The morning jumps to a solid 7.5ft from the NW with a much better 9-second period and very strong wave energy (813). The afternoon stays at 7.5ft and kicks the period up to 10 seconds, with incredibly strong energy (1049). That’s a proper swell. The wind is cross-onshore though, so it’ll be a bit choppy. At that size, with 7.5ft waves, this is definitely not for beginners – this is for the experienced crew only. The swell direction from the NW is ideal for this spot as well.
The followin’ day, Sunday, July 26, is a decent follow-up, with a 5.2ft NW swell and strong energy (475) in the mornin’, but it’s not quite as punchy as Saturday.
Honestly, for the next week and a half, you’re lookin’ at a lot of flat, blown-out days. The one standout is that Saturday the 25th. It’s promising but still a bit far out to lock in, so keep an eye on it. For a beginner-friendly spot like this, when the swell is over 8ft, it’s expert territory. For Saturday, it’s right on that edge.
So, get your hopes up for the 25th. Everything before that is mostly a write-off.
