Table - best surf conditions forecast for Mutriku over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Mutriku over the next couple of weeks.
Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – this is a rough stretch. We’re looking at a solid 16-day window, and there isn’t a single day that I’d really call a go. The surf is small, the energy is weak, and the conditions are just not cooperating. You’ll be waiting a long time for anything worthwhile.
The first record we’ve got is for Friday, July 10th, with a tiny 2ft swell from the WNW, but the wave comment says it all – poor surf conditions. The combined energy is a measly 71, which is barely a bump. The wind is a light breeze from the NE, but it’s straight onshore, so it’s not going to do us any favours.
Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th are more of the same. Small swells, 2ft to 3ft, mostly from the NW. The wind is light but cross-onshore, giving us those little wind ripples. The energy is still weak, topping out at 135 on Sunday afternoon. Nothing to get excited about.
The whole first week is a write-off. We see a few glassy moments on Tuesday the 14th morning and Thursday the 16th morning, but the swell is tiny – 2ft, with periods of just 5 seconds. That’s barely a ripple. The energy is at rock bottom, 21 and 30 respectively. It’s clean, but there’s nothing to ride.
Moving into the second week, we get a slight bump on Friday the 24th. The morning shows a 4ft swell from the NW with an 11-second period, and the energy jumps to 388. That’s the most energy we’ve seen all forecast. The wind is light cross-onshore, so it’s not perfect, but it’s the best we’ll get. The swell is still under 5ft, so it’s manageable for most, but the quality is poor. The afternoon sees it drop and the period shorten, so that morning window is the only real sniff.
The rest of the days are a mix of tiny, weak swells and onshore or cross-shore winds. The wave comment is consistently “poor surf conditions” and the score is a flat zero. The combined energy stays low, mostly under 100 or just barely into triple digits. It’s just not happening.
For a reef break like Mutriku, which is already inconsistent, this is a pretty normal blank run. The water temperature is sitting at 76°F, which is a whopping 8°F warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s very unusual, but it won’t help the waves.
So, to be straight with you – there’s no standout, no best on offer. If you’re desperate, keep an eye on Friday the 24th morning, but don’t hold your breath. The board stays in the car for a while.
Rusty.
