The Lowdown

G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve gotta be straight with you – the next 16 days are looking pretty flat for our region, specifically around Tri Ponti or La Scaletta (San Remo). We’ve got a solid run of days where there’s just nothing doing. This is one of those stretches where you might as well leave the board in the shed for a bit. Water temp is sitting at a very warm 81°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so if you do go for a swim, it’ll feel like a bath.

We kick off on Wednesday the 2nd of September with barely a whisper of swell – just 0.3ft from the SW with a period of 4 seconds. The combined energy is a very weak 1, not even worth paddling for. Wind is light offshore from the NNE in the morning, so it would be clean, but with no waves, it’s a write-off. This nothing-surf drags on through Thursday and Friday the 4th, where we get a brief moment of glassy conditions on the 4th morning, but still with 0.3ft swell. A total dud.

We go through the weekend of the 5th and 6th and into the start of the following week with swell heights that never breach 0.7ft and combined energy stuck on 1 or 2. The wind stays light and mostly offshore or glassy, but there’s simply nothing to surf. Monday the 7th is flat with zero energy. Tuesday the 8th the same. This is a long, dry spell.

Finally, on Wednesday the 9th of September, we see a tiny pulse – 1ft from the SSE at 5 seconds, with combined energy climbing to 27. Still weak, and the morning cross-shore wind won’t help much. By the afternoon, a near gale from the SW at 31 mph blows it out completely. Not a day for it.

The rest of the forecast is more of the same: we get a slight bump on Sunday the 13th with 2ft from the SSW at 6 seconds, combined energy up to 32 – the best of the whole outlook, and that’s saying something. Wind is light offshore from the NNE in the morning, so it’ll be clean, but 2ft with a short period is barely a ripple. By the afternoon, onshore wind kills it.

After that, it fades back to nothing. From the 14th right through to the 17th of September, we see only scraps of 0.3ft to 1ft with energy in the single digits. There are a few clean moments with offshore or glassy wind, but no wave to ride.

So, the honest truth: there are no standout days here. The only day that even remotely gets a pulse is Sunday the 13th morning at Tri Ponti or La Scaletta, with that 2ft SW swell and a clean offshore breeze. If you’re desperate for a longboard and a paddle, you might get a few knee-high groomers. But for everyone else, this is a solid 16-day gap with no real surf on offer. The region is in a flat spell – it happens. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s pretty grim.

Rusty.
