The Lowdown
Alright, surfers, let’s get into it. I’m looking at the outlook for Nova Mar Bella here in Barcelona, and honestly, it’s a pretty flat and quiet stretch ahead. Right now, there’s just not much energy in the water to get excited about.
We start off on Thursday, August 20th with a bit of weak, short-period swell coming from the SSW at about 3 ft. The combined energy is only 72, so it’s weak. The morning session has glassy conditions with a light ENE breeze, making it surfable but very ordinary. By afternoon, the wind swings onshore, and it drops off.
Then we hit a long, quiet gap. From Friday, August 21st all the way through Sunday, August 30th, it’s mostly poor surf. The swell is tiny, the wind is often cross-onshore or choppy, and the energy readings are low. There’s a brief moment on Tuesday, August 25th morning where a small 2 ft SSW swell shows up with clean, cross-off winds from the WNW, but it’s still just surfable, nothing special. The rest of the time, it’s flat or blown out.
The best—and I mean the only real standout—comes on Thursday, August 27th morning. We get a SSW swell pushing 3 ft, a period of 5 seconds, and combined energy of 45. The wind is glassy from the south, making conditions clean. It’s still small and short-period, so it’s not going to be a world-class session, but if you’re a beginner or just need to get wet, this is your window. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
After that, the rest of the run into September is mostly flat with tiny waves and poor conditions. There’s a slight chance of clean, cross-off winds on Monday, August 31st morning with a 2 ft SW swell, but it’s weak.
Overall, it’s a long, quiet period. If you’re desperate, the morning of the 27th is your best bet. Otherwise, wait for a change in the forecast.
