The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Well, I’m not gonna lie to you, it’s a pretty flat spell we’re looking at. The whole 16-day window is a tough one for surfers around here. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing, really. The first real suggestion of any rideable waves doesn’t pop up for a while, and even then, it’s tiny. The water temperature is a notable 82°F which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least a dip won’t be a shock to the system.
If you’re desperate, Monday the 10th of August morning might offer a small pulse. At Montgat, we’re looking at a tiny 2ft swell from the Southeast, with a period of only 5 seconds. That’s short-period windswell, not much energy behind it at all. The combined swell energy is a weak 17. The wind is a light cross-onshore from the ENE at 10 km/h, making for small ripples on the surface. It’s poor surf conditions, but it’s the most we’ve got in the whole run. Don’t get your hopes up.
The rest of the period is a real bummer. There are a few mornings with glassy conditions, like Wednesday the 12th, Thursday the 13th, and Wednesday the 19th of August, but the swell is basically non-existent, with heights of 0.7ft to 1.0ft and energy readings in the single or low double digits. It’s a paddling pool out there. The wind conditions are often onshore or cross-onshore, with some moderate breezes kicking up chop later in the afternoons, especially around the 15th and 18th. For a predominantly sandbar setup like Montgat, it’s a total write-off for surfing. Honestly, with the swell being so weak and the wind often messy, this setup looks more interesting for a kite session than a paddle session.
There are no standout days, no waves to get excited about. It’s just a flat, quiet period. Sometimes that’s just how it goes around here. Forecasts can change, but for now, you’re better off finding something else to do.
