The Lowdown

Righto, grab a coffee and settle in, ‘cause I’ve got to level with you. This is a tough one. We’re looking at the next 16 days at Largos, and honestly, the surf is a total blank. From now, right through the entire window, there’s not a single wave of any consequence. The first day with any swell at all is the 10th of August, and even then it’s just a tiny 0.3ft easterly slop, and that’s as good as it gets.

We’re talking a solid run of flatness. The water temp is sitting at about 70°, which is a bit colder than usual for this time of year, but that’s the only thing out of the ordinary. The wind tries to be good – plenty of glassy mornings and light breezes – but without any swell to push through, it’s just a pretty lake. The combined energy never gets higher than a measly 2 (just a whisper of energy), so there’s nothing to work with.

Normally, a run this quiet is a bit unusual for the area, but it does happen. Forecasts can change, but for now, there is absolutely nothing to recommend. The best thing I can say is that if you’re into kite surfing, the consistent cross-off and cross-shore winds on the 17th and 21st of August might be more interesting than a paddle. But for surf? Save the petrol.

Rusty.
