The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – the forecast for the next 16 days is a tough one for Puerto Cabopino. This is a sandbar setup that’s exposed to swell, but it's just not seeing any decent wave energy coming in. The entire 16-day window is a flat spell, with nothing worth paddling out for. The combined swell energy barely registers a pulse, with numbers staying in the weak single and low double digits for most of the run. The water temperature feels about average for this time of year, nothing unusual.

The first real sign of life doesn’t show up until Thursday the 10th of September. We finally see a bit of a pulse from the southwest, with the swell height picking up to about 3ft on the Thursday morning. The wind is offshore from the NNE at 6 mph, which is a massive positive – that’ll keep the surface glassy and clean. But the swell period is a short 5 seconds, so it’s weak, choppy energy, and the combined energy is still only 39. By the afternoon the swell bumps to 4ft from the SW, period 6 seconds, but the wind swings cross-onshore from the SE, so it’s going to be messy. The energy climbs to 92, but it’s still not enough for quality surf.

Friday the 11th of September morning offers the best of a bad lot. Swell is 4ft from the WSW, period still a short 5 seconds, and the wind is light cross-onshore from the WSW. Combined energy is 91. It’s small, weak, and a bit onshore – not exactly a standout, but it’s the only window with any size. For a beginner-friendly break like Puerto Cabopino, that 4ft might be a bit of a push, but it’s the closest thing to a wave we’ve got.

The rest of the period is a total blank. It’s a long stretch of flat, clean conditions but no swell to speak of. For a spot that’s fairly consistent, this is a real bummer, but it happens.

Rusty.
