The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s on offer for El Balneario over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be straight with you – it’s a pretty grim run for the most part, so don’t get your hopes up too high just yet.
The whole 16-day window is basically a flat spell with a few tiny, choppy windswells that just aren’t going to do it for anyone. The water temp is sitting at 71°, which is about 1° cooler than average for this time of year – nothing to write home about, just standard for the season.
The first real glimmer of something surfable doesn’t show up until Wednesday the 22nd of July. El Balneario is a beginner-friendly, fairly consistent spot that’s exposed to the WSW swell. On the morning of the 22nd, we’ve got a tiny 2ft swell from the west, with a period of 6 seconds. The energy is weak (41), and it’s just “surfable but very ordinary.” The wind is light offshore from the ENE, keeping it clean, so if you’re a total beginner and absolutely need a paddle, you could probably get a few sloppy ones. But honestly, it’s a struggle.
The next little window pops up on Friday the 24th of July. The morning sees a 3ft swell from the west, period still short at 7 seconds. The combined energy bumps up to a moderate 169, which is the highest we’ll see. The wind is offshore from the east at 12 mph, keeping the surface clean. Again, it’s “surfable but very ordinary.” It’s ankle to knee-high max, and the short period means it’ll be a bit lumpy. Not a standout.
Saturday the 25th of July offers a similar story in the morning: 4ft from the west, 7 seconds, moderate energy (117), and clean offshore easterly winds. Same deal – tiny, weak, and ordinary. After that, the wind swings onshore and the whole thing falls apart again.
So, what’s the best on offer? Honestly, there’s no proper standout. If I have to pick one, I’d say the morning of Friday the 24th of July has the most energy (169) and clean offshore wind, but it’s still a 3ft, short-period dribbler. For a true beginner, it might be a laugh, but for anyone else, it’s a pass.
The rest of the fortnight is a long gap of onshore winds and flat conditions. The swell is too small and weak to do anything with. Conditions are more suited to a day on the beach than a day in the water.
Rusty.
