The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s headed our way for the next couple of weeks.
To be honest, it’s a pretty grim stretch ahead for El Balneario. We’re looking at a long, flat spell with very little to get excited about. The water is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, sitting at 70°. The first real sniff of anything surfable doesn’t come until Tuesday morning, the 21st of July, and even then, it’s only just.
Tuesday morning, July 21st is the only real standout in the whole run. The swell is tiny, only 2ft from the west, with a short-period 6 seconds. The combined swell energy is weak (42). But here’s the thing: the wind is dead calm, absolutely glassy. That means the surface will be like a mirror, and while the waves are small, they’ll be clean. It’s a beginner-friendly spot anyway, so for a quiet, gentle paddle on tiny little waves, this is your window. The crowds are only sometimes an issue, so you might have it mostly to yourself.
After that, we go right back into the doldrums. The wind is onshore and the swell is tiny for days and days. There’s a noticeable pulse of energy that shows up on Monday, July 27th – the combined swell energy jumps to 178, which is moderate, with swell heights hitting 5ft from the west-northwest (7 second period). But the wind is onshore at 12 mph, so it’s going to be a messy, blown-out shambles. Not worth paddling out for.
We get a couple of glassy mornings again on the 28th and 30th of July, but the swell is so small (2ft and 0.7ft) it’s barely a ripple. Then, towards the end of the run into the 1st of August, we get some strong offshore winds from the east (22 mph) but the swell is still only 2ft. It’ll be clean but gutless.
Overall, there’s a big gap of poor surf from now until the 21st, and then another big gap after that. The only real highlight is that glassy Tuesday morning session. Don’t expect much else.
Rusty.
