The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what's on offer for El Balneario over the next couple of weeks. Let's be straight up about it – this isn't going to be a period you'll be writing home about. The charts are looking pretty flat and there's no real energy arriving.
We're starting off on Sunday the 19th of July with almost nothing. Tiny 2ft swell from the west with a short 6-second period, onshore wind and a combined energy reading of just 40 – it's weak, it's messy, it's not worth getting wet for. That continues through the next few days, with small west swell and onshore breezes keeping the surface chopped up. The water is sitting at 70°, which feels a bit colder than you’d normally expect for this time of year.
Then we get a little glimmer on Tuesday morning the 21st. The swell drops to 3ft from the west, still short period at 6 seconds, but the wind goes glassy. The waves are weak and ordinary, but at least it's clean. The energy is only 52, so don't get too excited. The glassy conditions pop up again Wednesday and again on Friday afternoon, but we're talking about knee-high dribble.
The best of an otherwise poor run looks like Saturday the 25th of July. We get a bit of a shift with a 2ft swell from the west-northwest, period nudging 7 seconds, and light offshore cross-off wind from the east. The beach will be clean with the wind off the land and the energy is up to 54. Still small but it’s the cleanest window we have. For a beginner-friendly spot like El Balneario, that Saturday morning is your main chance.
Beyond that, the second week stays quiet. There's a bump on Monday the 27th with a 5ft west-northwest swell and energy of 178, but onshore wind spoils it completely. After that it's tiny, blown out, or both. Winds turn strong offshore from the east late in July and into August, but there's no swell to work with – it's a classic case of all wind and no water.
To be honest, for most of this outlook, if you’ve got a kite, you might have more fun than a surfer. The waves just aren't there for a proper paddle session.
Rusty.
