The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's on the table for the next couple of weeks.
Well, to be honest, this is a tough one. The first solid surf recommendation is a no-show for the whole 16-day window. We're looking at a flat spell with nothing but poor surf conditions across the board. You'll be waiting a long time for any real waves here.
Let's talk about what's actually happening. The water is sitting at 73°F with a positive anomaly of 1°F, so it's a touch warmer than average for this time of year, but nothing too wild.
The only break on the menu is Punta del Moral, a beach and breakwater setup that's fairly consistent. That's the good news. The bad news is that the swell is tiny. For the entire first week, from the 5th of August all the way through to the 11th, we're looking at swell heights of 0.3ft to 2ft. The combined wave energy is weak, with values like 10 (on the 5th) and 8 (on the 6th). It's basically a lake. The wind does swing offshore from the NNW on the mornings, which would be clean, but there's no swell to work with.
Moving into the second week, from the 12th of August onward, the pattern is the same. The swell barely ticks up. On the 13th of August, we see a bit of a pulse with a 1ft to 2ft swell from the west, and the combined energy climbs to 55, but it's still very weak. The wind stays offshore and clean on the mornings, but the waves are just too small to get excited about. The swell period is short, often under 8 seconds, which doesn't help.
Toward the end of the outlook, on the 17th of August, there's a brief moment with a 0.3ft swell from the south with a period of 14 seconds, but the energy is still a measly 8. The 19th and 20th of August show a similar story: a tiny 0.3ft to 1.0ft swell with long periods, but the energy is barely registering.
Honestly, this stretch is a total write-off for surfing. The only positive is that Punta del Moral is fairly consistent, so it usually doesn't stay this flat for long. Forecasts can change. But as it stands, you're better off leaving the board at home.
Rusty.
