Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for La Herradura.
Honestly, I’m looking at this 16-day window and it’s a sad story. We’re staring down the barrel of a long, flat spell with no real surf to speak of. The entire first week and a half is a write-off, and even after that, we’re only talking about tiny, weak pulses. There’s a gap from the start of the forecast period all the way through to around the 16th of August before we see any swell that even registers on the energy scale.
The only spot on the menu is La Herradura itself. It’s an inconsistent beginner spot, exposed to the southwest, and it needs a good push from that direction to light up. For the first several days, the charts show nothing but flat, glassy conditions with swell heights of 0.3 ft and combined energy values of just 1 or 2 (weak). It’s beautiful weather for a paddle on a board, but not for catching waves.
The first faint glimmer shows up on the morning of Sunday the 16th of August. We’re looking at a 2 ft swell from the west, with a period of 4 seconds, and combined energy of 13 (weak). The wind is a light cross-offshore from the NNE, which will keep it clean. But honestly, for a spot that already breaks rarely, with that short a period and tiny size, it’s barely a ripple.
The most promising, if you can call it that, comes on the morning of Wednesday the 19th of August. The swell picks up to 3 ft from the WSW with a period of 5 seconds, and combined energy hits 59 (still weak). The wind is calm and glassy. It’s the best we’ll see, but it’s still poor surf conditions. For a beginner spot, this is borderline, but with the size under 5 ft, it’s not too big for a learner. The water temperature is sitting at 75°, which is about normal for the time of year.
That’s the only tiny standout, and it’s not a standout for anyone but the most desperate. After the 19th, it fades back into flatness. If you’re after a proper surf, this isn’t the window. Forecasts can change, but for now, it’s a blank run.
