The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: the next couple of weeks are looking flat as a pancake around here. We’ve got a real dry spell on our hands, so if you’ve got other plans, maybe now’s the time to do them.
Right now, there’s a bit of leftover energy from a weak, short-period swell, but it’s ugly. Wednesday morning is showing a cross-offshore breeze at 19 mph with a messy 2ft swell out of the WSW and weak energy (21). It’s just not worth getting wet for. The water is sitting at 76°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so it’s not a cold water problem – it’s a no wave problem.
Thursday morning, things go glassy with a light offshore wind, and that tiny 2ft WSW swell hangs around, but the energy is still weak (18). It’s pretty, but it’s tiny. That’s about as good as it gets for the next week, which says it all.
From Friday, the 11th, through to the 24th, we’re looking at a whole lot of nothing. Day after day of glassy conditions and zero swell. The energy readings are all zeros and ones – that’s about as dead as it gets. There are a couple of tiny bumps on the 16th and 17th, maybe 1ft to 3ft, but with periods of 5 seconds and weak energy (50), it’s not going to be anything you’d paddle out for.
When it comes to La Herradura (Andalusia), this break is inconsistent at the best of times, and this looks like one of those stretches where it just doesn’t show. It’s a beginner-friendly spot and can be fun when it’s on, but there’s simply nothing on the cards. With this being a beach setup and waves this small and weak, the kites are going to have more fun than we are.
