The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again, this time in feet and Fahrenheit.
La Herradura (Andalucia) is in for a proper dry spell for the first week. The water is sitting at roughly 77°, which is a touch warmer than normal for the season. From Sunday, July 26th, all the way through to August 2nd, it’s flat. Wind kicks up now and then – cross-off, onshore, or glassy – but there’s nothing to ride. That’s a solid 7-day gap of no surf.
The one bright spot rolls in on Monday, August 3rd. Early morning, we get a pulse of about 5ft from the WSW, with a period of 6 seconds. That’s short-period, wind-swell, but the wave energy is moderate (234), and the wind is glassy, so it’ll be clean. The swell direction is SW, which is exactly what this spot looks for. La Herradura is inconsistent and suited to beginners, but 5ft might be pushing it for the raw beginners. The break is exposed, so it’ll catch it all. The afternoon goes cross-on, so hit the dawn session.
Tuesday the 4th holds some 5ft to 3ft, but the wind is cross or glassy, and the energy is dropping. By Wednesday the 5th, it’s back under 2ft and fading. From the 6th through the 10th of August, it’s mostly flat again, with tiny, unrideable bumps.
The call is simple: Monday morning, August 3rd, is your only real chance. After that, it’s a long, quiet stretch.
Rusty.
