The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on offer at Las Redes over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it's a grim stretch ahead. There's nothing good to get excited about at Las Redes for the entire 16-day forecast period. We're looking at a blank run of days with poor surf conditions from start to finish. The first record doesn't even show a decent wave – just flat, weak, and messy. For an area like this, it's not unusual to see long gaps with no real surf, but this is a particularly quiet spell.
The water's way warmer than normal for this time of year, hitting about 78°F, which is over five degrees warmer than average – very unusual indeed, but that's no comfort when there's nothing to ride.
We do see a few moments where the swell tries to show a pulse. Around Monday morning the 24th, there's a bump of 5ft from the west, with a period of 9 seconds, and the combined energy hits 332 – that's moderate wave energy. But the wind is a cross-on from the SSW, making it choppy and ugly. The whole thing is a write-off with poor surf conditions. Later in the week, on Friday morning the 28th, you get offshore winds from the north at 16 mph, which is clean, but the swell is tiny – only 1ft from the WNW. No power there. The combined energy is a pathetic 24.
Further out, around Tuesday morning the 3rd of September, there's a glimmer with 2ft from the ESE and clean offshore flow from the NW, but again, that's tiny and inconsistent. By the time we get to Saturday morning the 5th of September, the swell bumps up to 5ft from the southeast, period of 6 seconds, with onshore wind from the south at 6 mph. The combined energy is 181 – moderate. But the short period and onshore wind mean it's just a messy closeout. Not worth paddling out for.
So, what's the best? Honestly, if I had to pick the least terrible moment, it'd be Friday afternoon the 28th of August. You've got 3ft from the WNW, period of 10 seconds, combined energy of 125, and cross-offshore winds from the northwest at 12 mph, keeping it clean. It's small and weak, but it's about the only time you might find a couple of rideable waves without the wind ruining it. Even then, don't expect much.
No standouts here, folks. It's a long wait. Forecasts can change, but as it stands, leave the board at home and find something else to do.
Rusty.
