The Lowdown
Alright, this is a tough one to call. Look, I’ve been staring at the charts for Las Redes and, honestly, it’s a bit of a barren stretch for the next 16 days. The whole outlook is a bit of a letdown. The forecast is peppered with “poor surf conditions” from start to finish, so there’s no real standout, no day to circle on the calendar. We’re looking at a blank run that’s pretty normal for this set-up when the swell just doesn’t line up.
The first sign of life is on Tuesday, July 14th, but it's a non-starter. Morning brings a tiny 1 ft swell from the W with a weak 4-second period and a light cross-on breeze. The combined energy is a measly 13 – basically nothing. The water is a balmy 76°, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year, but that’s about the only positive.
We roll through the next week with tiny, weak pulses. Wednesday, July 15th, has a 2 ft WNW swell, but the period is still short at 4 seconds. The wind swings NNW light, offering a clean morning, but the lack of any real energy (21) kills it. Thursday, July 16th, is a bit bigger at 2 ft, still WNW, with a 5-second period and a light cross-shore breeze, but the energy is still only 29. It’s just not enough to push any proper shape.
The weekend is a write-off. Saturday, July 18th, morning has a clean 2 ft swell with light offshore winds, but the energy is only 30. Sunday, July 19th, brings a tiny 2 ft swell with a light onshore breeze. You’d be better off doing something else.
We finally see a slight bump on Monday, July 20th, with a 3 ft swell from the ESE, but it’s still a short 5-second period. The energy jumps to 48, which is the highest we’ve seen, but it’s coming with a cloudy sky and a light onshore wind. It’s a dud.
The rest of the second week is more of the same: tiny waves, poor winds, and weak energy. There’s a moment on Thursday, July 23rd, with a clean 1 ft WNW swell and a light offshore NNE breeze, but it’s knee-high dribble. The highest energy we see in the whole run is 63 on Wednesday, July 29th, with a 3 ft WNW swell and glassy conditions. That’s the best of a bad bunch, but a 3 ft, 5-second swell at a sandbar is not going to offer much. It’s a beginner-level wave at best, and with the crowd potential listed as “sometimes,” you might have a few others out there wondering why they bothered.
Honestly, with the lack of size, poor surf quality, and the onshore wind patterns, this set-up looks more interesting for a flat-water paddle than a surf. The swell energy never breaks into the moderate range, and the period is consistently short. For a summer spot like this, it’s just a waiting game. Forecasts can change, but right now, you’re not missing anything.
