Alright, Rusty here, giving you the straight-up story for Las Redes. Gotta be honest, looking at the whole 16-day window, it’s a pretty quiet stretch. There’s nothing that jumps out as a classic day, so keep your expectations in check.
The first solid bit of surf we see is actually on Monday, July 6th. The morning might offer the cleanest conditions, with a light east wind 9 mph keeping the surface tidy, but the swell is tiny at 1 ft from the SE with a short period. The combined energy is weak (7). By Monday afternoon, a little more size shows up, 4 ft from the ESE, but the wind swings onshore, so quality drops. It’s a tough start.
After that, the whole week looks bleak. From Tuesday, July 7th right through to Sunday, July 12th, we’re stuck with small, weak swell and mostly onshore or cross-onshore wind. Swell heights hover around 1 ft to 2 ft, with combined energy rarely cracking 25. There’s nothing to get excited about here.
A slight pulse of energy shows up around Monday, July 13th, with a 3 ft swell from the WNW in the morning. The wind is cross-off from the NW at 9 mph, which will keep it clean, but the period is short and the combined energy is still just moderate (36). It’s a poor surf condition call across the board, so it’s unlikely to offer any real rideable waves.
The only faint glimmer in the whole forecast is Friday morning, July 17th. The wind turns to glass – dead calm – and the water will be like a mirror. The swell is 2 ft from the west, with a better period of 6 seconds, and the combined energy is 39. It’s not big, but with those glassy conditions it’s about as good as it gets in this flat spell. A beginner might find something soft to roll on.
The rest of the outlook into the third week stays small and unremarkable. Saturday, July 18th has a little bump of 3 ft from the ESE in the afternoon with moderate energy (50), but the wind is a moderate cross-shore from the west at 16 mph, so it’ll be choppy.
For a spot that’s fairly consistent, this is a proper lull. It’s a sandbar break that’s fairly exposed, needing a WSW swell to really work, and we’re just not seeing that direction at any meaningful size. With these tiny swells and poor quality, it’s almost more interesting for a kite than a paddle. The water temperature on the 6th is 77°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – a solid 6° above average.
So, to sum it up: if you have to get wet, Friday, July 17th morning is your best bet for clean but small waves. Otherwise, this is a forecast to sleep in.
Stay patient,
Rusty
