The Lowdown

Alright, let me have a look at what's on offer for the next couple of weeks here at Las Redes.

Honestly, I gotta be straight with you, it's a bit of a tough stretch. The forecast is looking pretty flat and uninspiring for the foreseeable future. The swell energy is really struggling to get going, and when it does, the wind is generally a problem. We're looking at a long gap of poor conditions, so don't be in a rush to grab your board.

Let's break it down. Starting from Wednesday the 19th, we've got tiny waves. Wednesday morning sees a weak 1ft swell from the WNW with a short, snappy period of 4 seconds. The combined energy is a measly 6, which is nothing. The wind is a cross-onshore, making it messy. The rest of that week, through the 20th and 21st, is much the same story with the swell barely hitting 3ft on Friday morning, but with periods still short and the wind switching from cross to cross-onshore, keeping the surface chopped up. The energy levels are stuck in the 40s, which is weak.

The weekend of the 22nd and 23rd doesn't offer any relief. We're still looking at ankle-to-lower-leg-high waves, with the wind sticking to that cross to cross-onshore pattern. The swell is from the WNW, but it's just not got any push. The same goes for the start of the next week, the 24th and 25th. There's a brief moment on the morning of the 25th where the wind goes clean and cross-offshore from the NW, but the swell is still only 2ft and the energy is weak. It would be clean, but there's just not enough wave to make it worth the paddle.

Then we hit a real dead spot. The 26th and 27th are basically flat, with the combined energy dropping to zero or one. The swell just disappears. The end of the month and into September, from the 28th of August right through to the 3rd of September, is a repeat of the same theme: tiny swells, mostly under 2ft, with periods ranging from 4 to 9 seconds. The energy is consistently in the low double digits or teens. The only positive is that on several mornings, like the 29th, 30th, and 31st, the wind goes clean and cross-offshore. But even with pristine conditions, you're looking at surf that's barely breaking.

So, the standout here? There isn't one. The best on offer will be those clean mornings with the cross-offshore wind, but the swell is just too small to get excited about. The water temperature is about average for this time of year, so no concerns there. This is a real flat spell, and it looks like it's going to last.
