The Lowdown
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let’s get real about this stretch ahead. I won’t sugarcoat it—this is a grim run for Las Redes. The whole 16-day window is basically a write-off. We’re looking at a long stretch of poor surf conditions with no real hope on the horizon. The first recommendation doesn’t even come until the 18th of July, and even that’s a dud.
From Saturday the 18th morning, we’ve got a weak 2.9ft swell from the WNW with a short, weak period of 6 seconds. The combined energy is a measly 56 – that’s weak, and it’s onshore cross-shore wind. The water is a notable 78.1°, which is *much warmer than normal* for this time of year by over 3°, but that’s cold comfort when the waves are flat and choppy. The whole weekend stays poor, with tiny 2.0ft to 2.6ft surf and cross-shore winds.
Monday the 20th brings a tiny 0.7ft swell, period only 9 seconds, and the combined energy drops to just 6 – basically nothing. The wind is cross-offshore, so it’s clean, but there’s no wave to ride.
Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd are more of the same: tiny, weak, onshore junk. A small 2.9ft on Tuesday morning with a combined energy of 42, but it’s cross-on and messy.
Thursday the 23rd morning is the one bright spot that’s still not worth paddling for. Glassy conditions, 2.0ft from the west with a 6-second period, but the combined energy is only 24. It’s clean, but it’s ankle-thigh high and gutless.
From there it’s a boring, flat, and often choppy run. Friday the 24th morning is clean with a 2.9ft WNW swell, but the period is only 5 seconds and the energy is 41. It’s a weak, short-period windswell. The rest of the week and into the first week of August is a desert of 0.7ft to 1.3ft surf, with the combined energy never breaking 100. The 27th of July afternoon sees a 3.3ft pulse from the ESE with a 5-second period, but it’s cross-on and choppy, with a combined energy of 65. Still poor.
The last few days of July and into August are just flat. The 29th of July morning has a 0.3ft swell with a 12-second period, but the combined energy is literally 3. It’s a joke. The 31st of July morning is clean cross-offshore, but only 2.0ft from the west, period 5 seconds, energy 21.
There are no standouts. No good options. If you’re desperate, Thursday the 23rd of July morning is the only time the wind is glassy, but there’s no size. Honestly, this setup looks more interesting for a kiteboarder than a paddle surfer, given the steady cross-shore winds and flat water. For a surfer, it’s a long, painful blank run. Forecasts can change, but right now, this is a stay-at-home and wait kind of stretch.
