The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for us.
Honestly, I gotta be straight with you – this next 16-day stretch is a real tough one. We’re looking at a long, drawn-out period of flat, weak, and messy surf. The first solid recommendation doesn’t even pop up until the end of the first week, and even then, it’s nothing to write home about. The rest of the time is a mix of small, choppy waves and onshore winds that are going to make you want to leave your board in the car.
There’s a long gap of poor conditions right from the start. From Thursday the 20th to Sunday the 23rd, it’s all tiny, short-period slop. The combined energy is weak, hanging around 7 to 31 (only moderate energy showing up on the 24th with 140), and the wind is nearly always cross-onshore. It’s just not worth paddling out.
Monday the 24th sees a bit of a pulse, with a 3ft swell from the west, but it’s still cross-onshore and choppy. The energy bumps up to 140, but it’s still poor surf. Tuesday morning the 25th is the first real standout. We get a clean window with a light NNW wind, a cross-off breeze, and a 2ft swell from the west. The water is absolutely roasting, about 78°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s a real anomaly and a bonus if you’re not wearing a wetsuit. For a few hours there, Las Redes could be a fun little wave for the beginners, but don’t expect anything powerful.
The rest of the week from the 26th to the 31st is a frustrating mix of tiny surf and strong, messy winds. The morning of the 31st (Monday) brings a slightly bigger 4ft swell from the west-northwest, and with a light N wind, it looks clean. That’s probably your best bet for the whole forecast, but the energy is still just 89, so it’s not a day for big waves. Light offshore winds on the 1st of September give us a clean 2ft set, but the size is just too small for anything exciting.
The final few days, from the 2nd to the 4th of September, keep the trend going: small, cleanish waves in the mornings but nothing with any real push. The best call is to keep an eye on the morning of the 31st of August or the 1st of September for a clean, small-wave session. Otherwise, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty out.
