The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s look at Las Redes in feet and Fahrenheit. Over the next 16 days, it’s a quiet stretch with tiny surf and mixed winds. No real standouts, and the first few days are a bust.
Starting on Tuesday the 14th of July, you’ve got a 1ft swell from the west, but a 20 km/h cross-on wind makes it choppy and messy. The water is 77°F, which is a massive 6°F warmer than normal – feels like a heated pool, but it doesn’t help the waves. Thursday the 16th is much the same, with a 2ft swell and a cross-shore breeze, not worth a paddle.
We get a small window on Sunday the 19th of July. The morning is glassy with a light wind from the southwest, and a 2ft swell from the west. It’s clean, but the energy is weak (24). The crowds are "sometimes," so you might see a few others. The water is still feeling way warmer than usual.
Through the 20th and 21st, the swell bumps up to 3ft on the Monday afternoon from the ESE, but the wind is cross-on and it gets choppy. The energy is still low (60).
The best chance comes late in the period. Saturday the 26th of July morning has a 3ft swell from the WNW, cross-off wind at 20 km/h, and clean conditions. The energy is 58, still weak, and the swell period is a short 5 seconds – it’s just windswell. It’s okay for a longboard if you’re keen. Monday the 27th morning has a clean 0.7ft swell with offshore wind, but it’s tiny.
For a beginner, the glassy morning on the 19th is your best shot. For everyone else, this is a long run of small, weak surf. The sandbar setup and frequent cross/onshore winds mean it’s more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing on most days. There’s a gap of about 5 days from the 14th with nothing good. It’s a thin outlook, but things can change.
Rusty.
