Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks at Las Redes. I’ve gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch ahead. There’s not a single time slot that gets the nod as a good option. The whole 16-day window is basically a write-off for a decent paddle. That’s a long, quiet spell, and for this area, when it goes flat like this, it’s not all that unusual, but it still stings.
Right now, we’re looking at a stretch from Wednesday, July 8th, all the way through to Thursday, July 23rd, with nothing that’d get a surfer out of bed. The swell is tiny, mostly around 0.7 ft to 3 ft, and it’s coming from the west or west-northwest, which isn’t the preferred southwest direction for this sandbar. The period is short too – usually 4 to 5 seconds – so the waves are weak and crumbly. The combined energy is nearly always in the weak range, often just single digits or low double digits. On Thursday, July 16th afternoon, the energy bumps up to 124 (moderate), but the swell is still a weak 3 ft with a stiff 15 mph cross-onshore wind, making it choppy and messy.
Speaking of wind, there are a few moments of glass or clean conditions – like Sunday morning, July 12th, which is glassy, or several mornings with light cross-off breezes from the north-northwest – but without any swell to match, it’s a flat, pretty lake. Just no energy to ride.
Water temp is only noted for the first entry on July 8th, and it’s a balmy 77°, a whopping 6° warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s very unusual, so if you’re just going for a swim, it’ll feel nice.
In short, there are zero highlights. No standout sessions. The best I can say is to keep an eye on the longer-range stuff, because forecasts can shift, but as it stands, there’s nothing to chase.
Rusty.
