The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for the next couple of weeks.

Honestly, it's a tough stretch ahead. The whole 16-day window is looking pretty flat and messy. We're starting with nothing good on offer, and it's going to be a long wait. There are no real surf options to get excited about. The first few days are all crossed-up and weak, and the pattern just doesn't want to set up. There are long gaps between any tiny pulses of energy, but none of them are worth paddling out for.

Let's break it down. From Monday the 20th right through to the end of July, it's a write-off. Swell heights are tiny, mostly under 3 ft, and the wind is all over the place – cross, cross-on, choppy. The combined energy is weak, barely cracking 50 (39 on Monday morning, 19 in the afternoon, 35 on Tuesday). It's a lot of close-outs and ripples. Even when the wind cleans up, like on Thursday morning the 24th with a light NW cross-off, the swell is just 0.3 ft with a 9-second period. That's barely a ripple. You'd be better off staying home and waxing your board.

The pattern continues into the first week of August. The 31st of July has a tiny bump of 3 ft from the ESE, but with a 5-second period and a moderate cross-shore, it's just lumpy. The morning of the 1st of August has a clean 3 ft from the SE, but again, it's a short 4-second period and weak energy (26). It's not worth the drive.

The only break in the mix is Las Redes, a sandbar setup that's fairly consistent. It's a beginner-friendly spot, which is good because nothing here is even close to threatening for an experienced surfer. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no need for a thick wetsuit.

The bottom line is this: there are no standouts, no hidden gems, not even a half-decent session in the forecast. For this area, a blank run like this happens. It's a quiet period. The setup is so poor that on days with the strongest wind and a beach break, it'd be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. Keep your eyes on the charts, but for now, the board stays in the car.

Rusty.
