Table - best surf conditions forecast for Las Redes over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab a seat. It’s Rusty here, and I’ve been staring at the charts for our local stretch, Las Redes. Honestly, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty tough. The water is sitting at 77°F right now, which is a solid 6°F warmer than usual for this time of year – feels weird, like the ocean is running a fever.
Right now, through the weekend and into next week, we’re in a dry spell. The swell is tiny, mostly under 2ft, and the wind is a constant problem – cross-onshore or cross-shore, making everything choppy and messy. The combined wave energy is weak, barely scraping into double digits or low twenties (like 11 to 30). It’s not surfable for a good stretch. We’re looking at this flat spell lasting from Friday, July 10th, all the way through the end of the week.
There’s a flicker of hope on Friday, July 17th, in the morning. The wind finally swings to a clean cross-offshore from the NNW, and the swell bumps up to 4ft from the WNW. The energy is still weak, just 85, but the conditions are clean. It’s the first real chance to get wet, but it’s small and weak.
The pattern continues to be mostly poor, with a few other clean moments. Sunday, July 19th morning, sees another 4ft blast from the NW with a light cross-offshore breeze, energy at 77. It’s better than nothing, but not a standout.
The only real standout in this whole 16-day window is a strange one. Look at Tuesday, July 21st, morning. The wind is a light cross-offshore from the east, and we get a 3ft swell from the ESE. The energy is still only 65, which is weak, but that easterly direction is something different. It’s a clean, glassy-looking morning, but with a short period of 5 seconds, it’s going to be weak and a bit lumpy. It’s the best of a bad lot, but don’t expect any juice.
Most of the time, the swell is too small, the wind is ugly, or the period is so short the waves just crumble. For a beachy setup like Las Redes, with the onshore winds we’re getting, it’s looking more like a kite surfer’s paradise than a paddler’s dream for the next week. The second week, from around July 21st onward, stays tricky, with a few clean windows but nothing pushing over 3ft. It’s a waiting game.
Stay patient, check the forecast. It tends not to stay this poor forever.
Rusty.
