The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table.
Well, to be honest, it’s a pretty grim stretch ahead for Playa de la Canaleta. We’ve got a long, dry spell of tiny, weak waves and mostly onshore or cross-off winds that just aren’t giving us anything to work with. You’re looking at a solid gap of nearly two weeks with no real surf on offer.
For the first week, from Friday the 7th right through to around Wednesday the 14th of August, it’s a write-off. Swell heights are barely scraping 2 ft to 2 ft, with periods all over the place but mostly short and weak. The combined wave energy is pitiful, often in the single digits or low teens (like 7 to 13). Winds are mostly onshore from the SW, or light cross-off from the NNW, but with that tiny swell, it’s just flat and messy.
There is a tiny glimmer on the morning of Wednesday the 14th of August. We see glassy conditions with a light SW breeze and a 1 ft swell from the WSW at 8 seconds. The energy is still low at 29, but those glassy conditions are a major positive for clean conditions. That said, it’s still only ankle-high dribble, so don’t get too excited. It’s really just a chance to sit on the water on a nice morning.
After that, the pattern of small, poor surf continues right through to the end of the forecast period on Saturday the 22nd of August. A couple of mornings have glassy conditions, like Saturday the 15th and Saturday the 22nd of August, but with swell heights of 0.7 ft to 1 ft, you’re not catching anything. The wind is often onshore by the afternoon, ruining any chance of a clean wave.
The only slight uptick is towards the end. On Thursday the 20th of August, we see the swell height nudging up to 3 ft to 3 ft from the SSE, with the combined energy hitting 41 to 53. That’s still weak to moderate at best, and the wind is cross-on or onshore, so the quality will be poor. Not worth a paddle.
Overall, this is a blank run. For this area, it’s not unusual to have these long flat spells, so don’t sweat it. The forecasts can change, but for now, leave the boards in the shed.
Rusty.
