The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you about this stretch of coast. We’ve got a 16-day window, but honestly, I wouldn’t bother paddling out for the first week or so. The surf is just not there. It's a tough run with hardly any energy to speak of.
The first real chance to get wet comes around midday on Monday, the 10th of August. The combined swell energy is just barely starting to tick over (114), but it’s a messy 3ft from the WNW with a short period of 6 seconds. The wind is cross-onshore, so it’s not going to be pretty. It’s really a wait-and-see situation.
The best of a bad bunch – and I mean the *only* standout in this whole forecast – looks like the afternoon of Thursday, the 13th of August over at Playa de Camposoto. The swell picks up a touch to 3ft from the west, coming with a longer period of 9 seconds, which will give it a bit more shape. The energy is moderate (101), and while the wind is a gentle cross-onshore, it’s the most promising mix we get. The water temp is sitting at 74°, which is about average for this time of year. Don’t expect a crowd-free session, as this spot can get busy.
After that, the swell fades away again. The 17th of August sees a jump in height to 3ft–4ft, but the period drops back to 5-6 seconds and the wind is onshore or cross-onshore, so it’s just a messy, blown-out bump. Not worth a second look.
The very end of the run on the 19th and 20th of August has some clean conditions with offshore winds, but the swell is tiny (1.0ft–2ft) and weak. You’d be doing more floating than surfing.
Overall, it’s a lean period. The setup is more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing if you’ve got the gear. For now, keep the board in the bag.
Rusty.
