The Lowdown
Right, folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s happening for Ilha de Tavira over the next couple of weeks. I’m just going to be straight with you – it’s a quiet picture. The data shows a long stretch of flat, clean conditions, but for a surf report, that’s not what we’re after.
The first real whisper of any energy doesn’t show up until the afternoon of the 6th of August. That’s a solid few days of nothing. Even then, it’s minimal. The swell is tiny, only 0.7 ft, from the WSW with a period of around 9 seconds. The combined wave energy is just a weak 9, so there’s barely any power in the water. With a cross-off wind, it’ll be clean, but you’ll be struggling to get a ride. The spot is a beginner spot and is inconsistent, so don’t expect much.
The water temperature anomaly is not given, so we’ll just say it’s about average for the time of year.
Moving into the second week, the best of a very flat bunch happens on the morning of the 14th of August. We see a tiny 1 ft swell from the WSW, with a period of 8 seconds and a combined energy of 21. That’s still very weak. The wind is cross-off, keeping it clean, but again, it’s barely surfable. The break is exposed to the swell and the optimum direction is from the SE, so that WSW swell isn’t hitting it well.
The 15th of August morning and the 16th of August morning show similar 1 ft and 1.0 ft pulses, but the period is short (4 and 5 seconds), and the energy is even lower. It’s not going to be a good time.
Honestly, there’s no standout surf here. The entire 16-day window is a write-off for any decent waves. The forecast shows a lot of “poor surf conditions” and zero scores. It’s a flat spell for the area. If you’re desperate, you might find a tiny knee-high ripple on the morning of the 14th, but don’t hold your breath. The emptiness isn’t unusual for this spot given its inconsistency, so don’t be too disheartened – forecasts can change.
Rusty.
