Table - best surf conditions forecast for Coxos over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s on the table for the next couple of weeks.
First up, we’ve got Coxos, a solid advanced reef break. The water is sitting at about 66°, which is pretty much what you’d expect for this time of year – nothing weird going on there.
But honestly, the outlook is a bit of a slow burner for the first week. The early days, starting Saturday the 11th, are small and messy. We’ve got light cross-onshore breezes and swells around 1ft to 2ft from the NW, with the odd period pushing 11 seconds. The wave energy is weak, sitting around 78 to 153 (moderate energy at best). It’s surfable but very ordinary. Sunday the 12th morning has a bit of clean cross-off wind and a 2ft, 9-second NW swell – the best of a thin bunch early on, but nothing to get too excited about. The rest of that first week is plagued by onshore and cross-onshore winds, choppy conditions, and tiny swell. It’s a stretch of days where you’re better off waiting or doing something else.
Then we hit a gap. From about Tuesday the 14th right through to Friday the 17th, it’s basically poor or marginal at best with small swell and bumpy seas. You’d be wasting your time.
Now, things start to get interesting around Saturday the 18th. There’s a pulse of swell coming from the NNW, building up to 6ft by Saturday morning with a short, lumpy 7-second period. The wind is still a fresh cross-onshore at 22 mph, which is going to mess it up. The energy is moderate-strong (336). It’s not clean, but it’s a sign of life.
The real standout window, and the one I’d keep an eye on if you’re an expert, is from Monday the 20th of July onwards. We’ve got solid NNW groundswell building. Monday morning sees 8ft of swell with an 8-second period and light offshore winds from the NNW (9 mph). The combined energy is pumping at 720 – that’s strong. It’s still a bit raw with the short period, but the wind is good, and Coxos is a reef that can handle that direction. This is the best window on offer. Tuesday the 21st holds similar size (6ft) but the wind shifts cross-onshore, making it bumpier.
But if you’re a charger, the morning of Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th is when it gets serious. We’re talking 8ft to 10ft from the NNW, with the Friday morning energy hitting 1337 – that’s very strong wave energy. The wind turns fully offshore for some of those sessions. This is expert territory only; beginners should stay well clear. The period is short (8-9 seconds), so the sets will be punchy and a bit chaotic. On a reef like Coxos, that means hollow, fast waves, but it won’t be super lined up. It’s a proper challenge.
Keep in mind, with that big swell and strong cross-onshore winds on some days, the setup could look more appealing for kite surfers than paddle surfing. But if you pick your window – the Monday the 20th morning or the offshore morning of Friday the 24th – you could score some heavy, memorable waves. The second week is definitely the go, even if the long-range call is a touch less certain.
Stay stoked.
Rusty
