The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, I've gotta be straight with you – the outlook for Punta Prima is a bit bleak. We're looking at a long stretch of poor surf conditions, with no real swell to speak of for the majority of the forecast period. The first recommendation doesn't even pop up until the morning of Sunday the 26th of July, which means more than five days of pretty much nothing to get excited about. From the 20th to the 25th, it's a flat spell with primarily weak, short-period windswell and a lot of onshore or cross-shore breeze. The water temp is a notable 82°F, which is a whopping 6°F warmer than average for this time of year, so the sea feels like a bathtub.
So, the first sniff of anything rideable comes on Sunday morning, the 26th of July. The swell ticks up to 2ft from the SSW with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is a weak 48. The wind is light from the NW, giving us a clean, cross-off breeze. It's a small window, but if you're really keen on a paddle, this is the best it gets for a while. The following morning, Monday the 27th, has a similar vibe with a 2ft ENE swell and glassy conditions, but again, tiny.
The only real standout in this whole 16-day window, and I'm saying it with a heavy heart, is the morning of Sunday the 26th. It's the best combination of a tiny uptick in swell and clean conditions. For a break that's exposed to an ESE optimum and is known for being inconsistent, this is about as good as it's going to get. Don't expect much, and you won't be disappointed.
Right, that's the long and short of it. The forecast can always change, so keep an eye on it, but for now, it's a waiting game.
Rusty.
