The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat and frustrating for most spots. We’ve got a long stretch of no real surf to speak of, so patience is going to be the name of the game. Let’s break it down.

The outlook kicks off with a tiny, weak pulse on Friday the 14th of August. We’re talking a paltry 0.7ft of easterly slop with a short 4-second period at Punta Prima. The energy is basically non-existent, measuring only a 1 combined swell energy (1). While Friday morning is dead glassy, the waves are just too small to bother with. This dribble lasts through the weekend and into the following week, with the swell never cracking 3.3ft and the period never getting out of the 4-to-6-second range. The water temp is a very unusual 83.8°F, which is 6.5°F warmer than normal for this time of year – definitely a tropical bath.

We finally see a bit of a jump around Monday the 24th of August. The combined energy climbs to 157 (moderate) with a 3.6ft swell from the SSW, but the period is still a short 8 seconds. The problem is the wind, which is a light but onshore ENE. It’s a big step up in energy, but the quality won't be there with the onshore flow messing it up.

The best chance we get in this whole window is on Wednesday the 26th of August. Early morning at Punta Prima looks promising with 3.6ft of north-easterly swell, a 5-second period, and dead glassy conditions. The water is glassy and the combined energy is 71 (moderate). It’s not a huge swell, but the clean, wind-free conditions will make it the most surfable moment of the whole forecast. It’s only rated as ‘very ordinary,’ but that’s a relative win here.

After that, Thursday the 27th offers another glassy morning with a cleaner 3.3ft of easterly swell and a 6-second period, with 70 combined energy (moderate). Not bad, but the better window was Wednesday morning.

Looking at the second week. Friday the 28th has clean offshore WSW winds at 6 mph on a 3.0ft ESE swell, but it’s small. By Saturday the 29th, we see a modest bump to 3.9-4.3ft of easterly swell with energy hitting 137 (moderate), but it’s all cross-on/onshore wind. A bit more power, but messy.

Overall, there’s a big stretch of flatness, and the only real standout is that glassy Wednesday morning on the 26th. The rest is small and mostly choppy. This is one of those periods where you have to be ready to jump on the very few clean windows, or just wait for a better forecast.

Stay patient, mates.
