The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ll be straight with you—this isn’t one of those weeks where you’re checking the forecast every hour. The entire 16-day window for Punta Prima is a flat spell with virtually no rideable surf. The waves just aren’t showing up, and when they do, they’re barely a ripple. The first real chance of anything is actually on the very last day, and even that’s a long shot.
The pattern starts on Saturday, 8 August, and it’s dead. We’re talking a 0.3ft swell from the SE with a period of 4 seconds—that’s pure wind chop, no energy. The combined energy of all swells directed here is a measly 1 (weak). It’s glassy, which is nice, but you can’t surf glass. That continues through the weekend and into the next week. Swell heights barely nudge 2ft, periods stay under 7 seconds, and the energy never climbs above 41 (weak) on the whole stretch. The best you’ll see are some tiny, poor-condition waves with cross-onshore or onshore winds that chop them up even more.
There’s a long gap of nothing from the 8th through to the 22nd of August. No standout sessions, no window of hope. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so at least it’s not freezing, but that’s small comfort.
The only flicker of something comes on Saturday, 23 August, the last day of the forecast. Morning shows a glassy, calm 2ft from the E at 5 seconds, with a bit more energy at 13 (weak). It’s still poor surf conditions, but if you’re absolutely desperate to get wet, that’s your best bet. Afternoon flattens out again. Don’t expect much. This is a place that often goes quiet, and this run is a classic example.
For now, leave the board at home. The forecasts can change, but right now, there’s nothing to get excited about.
Rusty.
