The Lowdown

Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s on the menu for the next couple of weeks. The long-range story is mostly flat and sleepy, with only a quick blink of something slightly better at the very end.

This 16-day run is dominated by a long, flat spell with only a minor uptick in energy right at the finish line. For the most part, we’re looking at knee-high bumps and ankle-biters. It’s tough to find a standout. The one thing that stands out is the water; at Punta Prima, it’s a balmy 79°, running a massive 4° warmer than normal for this time of year, so that’s unusual.

Heads up, there’s a major gap in decent waves. From Monday the 14th all the way through to the 29th, it's pretty grim.

Monday the 14th is a wash-out. We’ve got a tiny 0.4 ft swell from the SE with a period of just 4 seconds and combined wave energy of only (6), plus a NNE cross-onshore breeze. Conditions are poor. The afternoon is even worse with onshore wind.

Tuesday the 15th drops to a microscopic 0.2 ft from the ESE (1 energy units) with glassy morning conditions. It looks pretty, but there’s no rideable wave.

The rest of that first week and the second week is the same story. From Wednesday the 16th through to the end of the month, the swell height occasionally lifts to around 4 ft on the 19th of September, but it’s always with cross-onshore or onshore winds, and every wave comment reads "poor surf conditions". Many days show zero combined energy. It’s just not happening.

The only tiny blip of hope is right at the end. On Tuesday morning the 29th of September, we see a period of 6 seconds from the S, with a 2 ft swell and 0 mph winds. It’s glassy but small.

Even the afternoon push of energy on the 29th—combined swell energy hitting 108 and a 3 ft swell from the NE (period 6s)—still has poor surf conditions and a cross-onshore breeze. That setup looks more interesting for a kite than a paddle.

To sum it up: It’s a long, flat wait with only a brief, uninspiring window at the very end. The water is warm, but you won’t need more than a soft-top for a splash.

Rusty.
