The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Got a look at the long-range for our stretch of coast, and I’ve got to be honest with you – it’s a tough one. We’re staring down a long, dry spell with barely a ripple worth paddling for over the next 16 days. The window starts on Thursday the 13th, but don’t get your hopes up.
From Thursday morning the 13th right through until Saturday the 22nd, it’s a complete washout. We’re talking flat, weak, wind-blown junk day after day. Swell heights barely crack 1ft, periods are a whimpy 4-5 seconds, and the wind is mostly onshore. The water is running at a very unusual 84° – that’s way warmer than normal for this time of year, but it’s not doing us any favours. The combined swell energy is pitiful, mostly single digits (14, 7, 3...). Honestly, you’d get more of a workout in a swimming pool. There’s a period around Saturday the 16th where we see a pulse of 3ft swell with 6-second periods (53 energy), but it’s coming with a stiff onshore breeze, so just messy, choppy slop. Don’t bother.
The only faint glimmer in this whole 16-day window shows up on the morning of Sunday the 23rd at Punta Prima. This beginner-friendly, inconsistent spot rarely gets a mention, but we’ve got a 4ft ESE groundswell with an 8-second period. The combined swell energy jumps up to a moderate 196, which is the best we’ll see by a mile. The wind is glassy – light and variable from the north – so the surface should be clean. It’s still not what I’d call pumping surf, but for a Sunday morning with clean conditions, it’s the only game in town.
After that, it’s back to the doldrums. The following week is tiny again, with onshore winds ruining any hope. That Sunday the 23rd is your one window. It’s not a classic, but it’s what we’ve got.
Stay patient. Rusty.
