The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for Punta Prima over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you—this is a tough stretch. The forecast is showing a real quiet period, with hardly any surf worth paddling out for. We're looking at a long gap of nothingness from now until the 25th of August. The waves are tiny, and the conditions are just not cooperating. The bit of swell we do see is weak, with combined energy barely getting into double digits. Water temp is a warm 83.3°F, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year, so at least you won't need a steamer, but you'll need a log for any hope of a ride.
The first real sniff of something comes on Tuesday morning, the 25th of August. We've got a tiny 3ft swell from the SSW with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is still only 79, so it's weak. But the wind is glassy, and that's a big positive. The conditions will be clean, but the waves are surfable but very ordinary. Punta Prima is an inconsistent spot, and this is a session for the longboard or a funboard, not a shortboard. It's a tough one to get overly excited about.
Thursday morning, the 27th of August, is similar. Another 3ft, SSW swell, 7-second period, combined energy of 93. The wind is glassy again, which is as good as it gets. But again, it's just small and weak. It's the same story: clean, but very ordinary.
The best bet in this whole outlook, and I'm saying this with a heavy heart, is Monday morning, the 7th of September. It's a long way off, a week and a half away, so take it with a grain of salt. The forecast shows a 3ft swell from the ESE with a 6-second period. The combined energy bumps up to 82, which is still weak. But we've got a cross-offshore wind from the SW at just 3 mph, which should keep it clean. The waves are described as "surfable but very ordinary." It's the best of a bad bunch, but it's still not going to be anything to write home about. The swell is a bit short-period, so it won't have much push.
The afternoon of that same day, the 7th, sees a bit more energy with a 3.3ft swell from the East and a combined energy of 135 (moderate), but the wind is a cross-shore from the SSE at 12 mph, which will chop it up. Not ideal.
Honestly, lads, there's no standout surf here. The small, weak swells and the wind not lining up mean you're better off waiting for the next system to roll through. It's a classic case of a quiet spell for this area.
Short Range ForecastMostly dry. Warm (max 29°C on Sun afternoon, min 25°C on Sun morning). Wind will be generally light. | Days 4-6 Weather SummaryMostly dry. Warm (max 30°C on Wed afternoon, min 24°C on Fri night). Wind will be generally light. | ||||||||||||||||||||
