The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve gotta be straight with you—this 16-day outlook for Punta Prima is a tough one. There’s a long, dry gap at the start with no real surf to recommend at all. From Tuesday the 8th of September right through to Monday the 21st, the conditions are just poor. We’re talking tiny swell, weak energy, and messy winds. It’s a dead run for almost two weeks.
Tuesday the 22nd of September is the first time you’d even think about paddling out. The morning brings a bit of life with a 5 ft swell out of the east, period of 6 seconds, and combined energy sitting at 182 (moderate). The wind is light and clean from the SSW, so it’s glassy and nearly offshore. The report says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions,” so it’s not a standout, but it’s the best we’ve got. That afternoon gets blown out by a moderate cross-shore breeze, so the session is a morning-only window.
After that, it drops back to nothing. Wednesday the 23rd of September morning shows a little glassy 3 ft east swell, but energy is only 47 (weak) and it’s back to poor conditions.
Honestly, for Punta Prima, it’s a quiet spell. This spot is inconsistent at the best of times, and the forecast shows nothing that’ll get you excited. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there. If you’re desperate, the Tuesday morning window is your only play, but keep expectations low.
Stay patient, mate. It’ll turn around.
