The Lowdown
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let's look at the waves for Punta Prima. Honestly, looking at the next two weeks, it's a flat spell with only a couple of flickers of hope. This spot is inconsistent at the best of times, and that's playing out here.
The water is much warmer than usual for this time of year, sitting at 81.3°.
We’ve got a massive gap. From now, through the rest of July and into the first few days of August, it’s pretty much dead. Tiny dribbles of swell, mostly from an easterly direction, but the energy is weak. For example, on the morning of the 25th of July, we’re looking at a tiny 1.6ft swell from the east with a period of just 5 seconds, and only 24 units of energy. The wind is light and cross-onshore, so it’s not going to be clean fun. This is the story for day after day – poor surf conditions. The wind is often onshore or cross-onshore from the southeast, which messes up the tiny waves.
There is a brief spike in size around the morning of the 30th of July, but it’s a disaster. The swell jumps to 8.2ft from the east with a period of 8 seconds, and the energy is huge at 1028. However, the forecast is clear: it’s predicted to be too big for this break. The wind is also a cross-onshore breeze from the northeast. That morning is a pass for everyone except maybe a strong expert on a big day, but even then, the quality will be poor.
After that, it drops back down. The mornings of the 31st of July and the 1st of August offer the best chance all period, though that’s not saying much. The morning of the 1st of August sees a small 2.9ft swell from the east-northeast (6-second period) and the wind is glassy. The energy is a very modest 103. You’ll get surfable, but very ordinary conditions. It’s the only window where the wind plays ball, and the crowd is likely to be heavy for such a small, inconsistent wave. The swell from the east-northeast isn't ideal; this spot likes it from the east-southeast. Don’t expect much.
Short Range ForecastMostly dry. Warm (max 36°C on Tue afternoon, min 25°C on Sun morning). Wind will be generally light. | Days 4-6 Weather SummaryMostly dry. Warm (max 38°C on Thu morning, min 25°C on Fri morning). Wind will be generally light. | ||||||||||||||||||||
