Table - best surf conditions forecast for Punta Prima over the next 16 days.
Right, mate, Rusty here. Let’s be honest from the start: Punta Prima is a write-off for the next 16 days. There’s not a single session in the whole run that’s worth paddling out for. The water temp is about average for the time of year, but that’s the only bit of good news.
We’re looking at a long, quiet stretch. From Friday 10 July right through to Saturday 25 July, the surf stays tiny and weak. The swell energy is almost non-existent – mostly single-digit values like 7 or 9 (weak energy), only climbing to 131 on Monday 13 July (moderate energy) but that’s paired with a cross-onshore wind that chops it up. The swell height barely reaches 4 ft that day, and it’s a short-period 5 seconds, so it’s all windswell and poor shape.
For the rest of the month, it’s a sad story. Waves are 0.7 ft to 3 ft, periods are 4 to 6 seconds – no push, no power. Winds are mostly cross-onshore or onshore, often from the east or northeast, leaving the surface choppy and messy. There are a couple of glassy moments on the morning of Friday 10 July, and Wednesday 15 July, and Friday 24 July, but with only 1 ft to 2 ft of swell and tiny energy, it’s completely flat.
This spot is inconsistent at the best of times, and right now it’s basically a swimming pool. If you’re desperate for a paddle, the cleanest windows are on the mornings of 10 July, 15 July, and 24 July, but don’t expect any wave worth riding. Honestly, this stretch is more interesting for a kite surfer if the wind picks up, but for a surfboard? Leave it at home.
Rusty.
