Right, grab a coffee, let's have a look at the charts for Punta Prima. The next couple of weeks are pretty quiet out that way, I gotta be straight with you. There's nothing on the horizon that's gonna get the heart pumping. The pattern is one of minimal energy for the entire 16-day run, with only a few brief windows where it's even worth paddling out for a splash.
Friday July 3rd morning is about as good as it gets, and that's not saying much. We've got a weak little 3 ft swell creeping in from the ESE, with a combined wave energy of just 60 – that's thin. The wind is a light WNW cross-off, 6 mph, which will keep the surface clean enough for a longboard. It's an inconsistent spot at the best of times, and with that tiny period of just 6 seconds, it's going to be a bit lumpy and lacking punch. It's a beginner-friendly break, so if you're learning, you could have a play, but don't expect much.
After that, we hit a proper dry spell. From Saturday July 4th right through to the middle of the following week, it's pretty much flat. The swell height barely cracks 1 ft to 2 ft, with combined energy values dropping into the single digits. The wind is a mess too, lots of onshore and cross-on conditions from the SE and E that will make the surface choppy. Even the glassy mornings with no wind only have a tiny 0.7 ft to 1.0 ft ripple – not worth getting the wetsuit wet for.
There's a slight flicker of hope on Sunday July 12th morning. The swell bumps up to 4 ft from the ENE, with a combined energy of 139, which is the most we see in the whole outlook. The wind is glassy – dead calm – which is a treat. But that wave period is still a short 6 seconds, so it's going to be a bit fat and weak, especially for a beach break. It's surfable, but ordinary.
The following week stays quiet. A bit more swell shows up around Tuesday July 14th and Wednesday July 15th with 4 ft to 5 ft from the E, but the wind is always onshore or cross-on, ruining any chance of quality. The energy is moderate for a moment, around 104 to 134, but with those poor wind conditions, it's not recommended. The whole setup is more interesting for a kite than a paddle, to be honest.
So, in summary: the standout, if you can call it that, is the Friday morning of July 3rd for a clean, tiny wave, and maybe the glassy Sunday morning of July 12th for the biggest, cleanest, but still weak swell. Beyond that, it's a long, flat wait. I wouldn't hold my breath. This blank run looks pretty normal for this area when the swell windows don't line up with the wind.
