Alright, let's get into it. Rusty here, and I've got to be straight with you: the next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat for Punta Prima. This is a real dry spell, and we're looking at a long stretch of nothing much to get excited about.
Right from the start, Sunday the 12th through to Friday the 24th, it's a total write-off. We're talking teeny, gutless swell with no energy. The combined swell energy is barely getting into double digits, often just a measly 10-40 (weak energy), so there's just nothing to work with. Winds are all over the shop too, mostly cross or onshore, so it's choppy and messy. Even the glassy mornings on Monday the 13th and Sunday the 19th are a waste because there's simply no wave to ride.
The first faint glimmer of hope shows up on Friday the 24th in the morning. We get a clean, cross-offshore breeze from the NNW and a little bump of swell from the ESE at 3 ft, but it's a short period of 7 seconds, so it's pretty weak. The energy is still only 62 (weak energy). It's surfable, but barely, and only for the most desperate.
Now, Saturday the 25th morning is probably the best of a bad bunch. The swell picks up a touch to 4 ft from the ESE, still with a 7-second period, but the combined energy finally cracks into the triple digits at 118 (moderate wave energy). The wind is a light cross-offshore from the WNW, so it should be clean. This is the only time I'd even consider paddling out, but don't expect any gems.
Looking further ahead to Monday the 27th, the swell increases to 5 ft from the east, with a 6-second period and a combined energy of 188 (moderate wave energy). Morning winds are light and cross-offshore from the WNW, so it'll be clean. It's still a short period swell, but it's the biggest wave we'll see in the whole forecast. For a beginner, 5 ft is pushing it a bit, but it's doable. For the experienced crew, it's something to keep an eye on, but it's a long way off, so don't hold your breath.
Honestly, this is a tough one. For a spot that's already inconsistent, a blank run like this is pretty normal. Don't sell your board just yet – forecasts can change, but as it stands, there's not much to write home about.
Rusty.
