The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it for Punta Prima. Honestly, it’s a bit of a slow slog for the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a long stretch of tiny, weak, and messy conditions, but there is a glimmer of something promising right at the end.

Right now, and for the next several days, it’s pretty flat. Swell is hanging around 1 ft to 1 ft from the ESE, with periods so short (4-5 seconds) there’s no real push. The energy is negligible, just a measly 4-10 on the combined scale. Tuesday the 8th morning is glassy as can be, but with a 1 ft, 4-second swell, it’s not even worth a paddle. This quiet spell runs right through to the morning of Thursday the 12th, and then again from Sunday the 13th through the end of the 14th, with the swell bumping up to 4 ft but still suffering from poor, choppy conditions.

The wind stays mostly onshore or cross-onshore, keeping things messy. The only real taste of clean air comes on Wednesday the 9th morning with a gentle offshore from the WNW, but the swell is still just 1 ft from the SSW. That’s a tease, not a session.

Now, there’s a real shift on the horizon. The 15th of September sees a jump in energy, with a 4 ft swell from the east and a combined energy reading of 120. It’s still moderate, but better than what came before. Still, expect choppy, cross-onshore conditions.

The standout, the one you’ve been waiting for, looks like Sunday the 20th of September. The morning session is the pick. We’re looking at a solid 5 ft swell from the east, with a period of 8 seconds, pushing a combined energy of 256 – that’s genuinely moderate wave energy. The wind is scheduled to be glassy. Dead calm. That’s pure magic. For a break that’s inconsistent and exposed to the east, this is a rare shot. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual to report here. This is the one to circle on the calendar. It’s a long-range call, so keep your fingers crossed the forecast holds.

Before that, the morning of Thursday the 19th is worth a mention. A 3 ft ESE swell with a clean, light cross-offshore breeze gives you surfable waves, but it’s just okay, nothing to write home about.

For the rest of the run, it’s all small, weak, and mostly blown out. This isn’t a spot for beginners even when it’s bigger, and over 5 ft it can start to get too much for the less experienced. The 20th is your best bet.

Stay patient, keep your eyes on that 20th, and I’ll see you in the water.

Rusty.
