The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let's get into it.

We're looking at a pretty bleak stretch for Punta Prima, I gotta be honest with you. The first real recommendation to even think about paddling out doesn't pop up until the 25th of July, and even then, it's not exactly setting the world on fire. We've got a gap of a couple of days there with nothing worthwhile on offer.

The water is sitting at a very warm 83°F in the early part of the forecast, which is a whopping 6°F warmer than usual for this time of year. That's a real anomaly, feels like a bath out there.

On Saturday morning, the 25th of July, we see a tiny 2ft swell from the SSW with a period of just 6 seconds. The wind is a light cross-offshore from the NW, which will keep the surface clean. The combined energy is low, at 44, so don't expect much push. It's barely a ripple, but it's the best we've got for a while.

The morning of the 27th of July, Monday, it's glassy with a light northerly wind, but the swell is all but gone at 1ft from the E with a 4-second period. Combined energy is a measly 5. It's a flat spell, really.

The next notable little bump comes in on the morning of Tuesday the 29th of July. We've got a 3ft swell from the ESE with a 6-second period, and combined energy of 59. The wind is a light cross-onshore from the NE. It's not perfect, but it's the most energy we see in the whole run.

The 4th of August, Tuesday morning, offers a glassy session with 2ft of ESE swell, but the period is a short 5 seconds and the energy is only 15. It's a weak, short-period swell that won't have much shape.

The 5th of August, Wednesday morning, is glassy again with a 2ft swell from the E, but again, a 5-second period and only 10 for combined energy. This is a real pattern of tiny, weak swell.

The 7th of August, Friday morning, sees the biggest swell of the forecast at 4ft from the ENE, but it's a short, weak 5-second period with combined energy of 83. The wind is a light cross-onshore from the ENE. The size is there, but the quality and period are totally off. It's going to be a messy, weak closeout.

The honest truth is, there's no standout session here. The biggest swell on the 7th of August is the only time the height gets over 3ft, but the period is terrible. The cleanest conditions are on the glassy mornings, but the swell is non-existent. For this spot, this is a classic blank run.

Rusty.
