The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this outlook for the next couple of weeks is about as bleak as a flat spell on a Tuesday. There’s a big ol’ gap of nothing at the start, so we’re looking at a long wait before anything even thinks about breaking.
The first real sign of life comes on Wednesday the 26th, but it's a tease. The swell is just starting to push through, but it’s still weak with only moderate energy (144). The waves are small, around 4 ft coming from the E with a short period of 7 seconds. That’s not going to light anyone’s fire. The morning is clean with a cross-off breeze, so it’s surfable but very ordinary. Afternoon gets messy. Honestly, this is nothing to get excited about.
After that, it’s back to the same old story. Tiny, weak, and onshore. The rest of the run through the end of August and into the start of September is flat or spilling out with lousy wind. There’s a mention of Punta Prima being a beginner spot, and with the swell so small, it’s the only crew that might find a knee-high dribbler, but the crowds are "often" around, so you’ll be sharing those tiny ripples.
The water at Punta Prima is sitting at a balmy 85°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year. The anomaly is over 8°F, so that’s very unusual – like a hot tub.
There are no standouts here. It’s a dead period. For a kite surfer, the stronger afternoon winds and choppy conditions might be more interesting, but for a paddle surfer, you’re looking at a long stretch of poor surf quality. The only real "surf" is a fleeting, ordinary window on Wednesday the 26th, and even then, it’s nothing to write home about. The forecast can always change, but right now, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
