The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what we’ve got on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a flat spell and a half. The next week and a half is a write-off. We’re looking at a long gap of nothing rideable, from now all the way through the first week of September. The swell is barely a ripple, and most days the wind is onshore or cross-on, just making things choppy and messy. There’s one small window that’s worth setting the alarm for, but you’ll need to be patient.
That window arrives on Thursday morning, the 27th of August. Punta Prima wakes up with a clean 4ft swell out of the SSW, with a period of 7 seconds. It’s not a groundswell, so don’t expect a whole lot of push, but the wind is a light cross-offshore from the SSW at just 3 mph. That’ll keep the surface clean, and the combined wave energy is moderate at 182. It’s the best we’ll see, but it’s still only a “surfable but ordinary” kind of day. The water is much warmer than normal for the time of year, sitting at 82°F.
Friday the 28th has a smaller pulse in the morning – 3ft from the SSW, clean with a light WNW cross-offshore, but the energy drops off to just 82. After that, it’s back to tiny, onshore dribble all the way through to the 10th of September.
So, the one standout is Thursday the 27th morning. If you’re desperate for a paddle, that’s your moment. For everyone else, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty, signing off.
