The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s break down the next 16 days, but in feet and degrees for you. We’re looking at a flat patch for the most part. The water is a real standout, though – it’s sitting at 82°F (much warmer than normal for the time of year), so even if the surf is a no-go, the water feels like a warm bath.

The first chance to even think about a wave is Wednesday, the 29th of July. Punta Prima has a bit of combined energy showing (107), but it’s messy. Swell is about 4ft from the ESE with a short 7-second period. The wind is cross-on from the NE at 10 mph, which is going to put some ripples on it. It’s a poor surf call, and the break is inconsistent, so keep your expectations low. Thursday morning, the 30th, is similar – 4ft from the ESE, 111 moderate energy, but still cross-on wind. It’s clean enough for a paddle, but the waves will be weak and lack any real push.

After that, it drops off a cliff. From Friday, the 31st of July, through to the 9th of August, we’re looking at tiny swell – mostly under 3ft, with periods under 8 seconds. There are some glassy mornings on the 3rd, 5th, and 6th of August, but the swell is barely a ripple (0.7ft to 1ft). The combined energy values are all in the single digits or low tens, which is nothing. The 4th of August morning has a clean, cross-off wind from the SSW, but the swell is only 1ft and 5 seconds – you’d need a longboard or a handplane.

There’s no standout session here. The best you’ll get is a small, grovelly board session on the 29th or 30th of July, but it’s not worth the drive. For a break that’s already inconsistent, this is a proper flat spell. It’s one of those times where forecasts can shift, but right now, we’re in the doldrums.

Rusty.
