Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s on the table for Playa de Xago over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a slow start. The first few days are a total loss for any decent waves, with small, weak leftovers and cross-off winds. The water is sitting at 68°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least it’ll be nice just floating around.
Things start to look a little more interesting around Monday, July 6th. The morning brings glassy conditions and a tiny 2ft NW swell, but it’s just not enough to get excited about. The combined energy is weak (69), and it’s barely surfable. We get a repeat of the same on Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th mornings – glassy, clean, but still tiny. Good for a longboard if you’re desperate, but not worth burning a sick day.
Now, the real standout in this whole forecast is the window around Tuesday, July 14th. The morning looks like the pick of the bunch. We’ve got a calm, glassy ocean with a 4ft WNW swell and a combined energy of 314 (moderate). The wind is dead calm, which means the surface will be like a mirror. That’s about as clean as it gets. The swell direction is right on the money from the NW, which is what this break likes. It’s not huge, but it’s clean, and the period is a short 8 seconds, so it’ll be a bit crumbly and fun. This is the one to circle on the calendar.
The lead-up to that is a bit messy. Saturday the 11th pushes up to 5ft, but the wind is onshore and choppy, making it a marginal call. Sunday the 12th sees the swell bump up to 6ft-8ft from the NW, but with light rain and cross-shore wind, the quality is still just okay. The combined energy jumps to 573-798, which is strong, but it’s a short-period swell (9 seconds), so it’ll be a bit of a washing machine. This is more for the experienced crew if they want some power, but beginners should sit this one out.
After that Tuesday morning window, it drops off quickly. Wednesday the 15th and beyond see the swell fade back to flat, with poor conditions and weak energy. The last week of the forecast is a wasteland for surf.
So, to sum it up: the first week is a bust. The best chance for a wave is Tuesday morning, July 14th. Get up early, enjoy the glass, and make the most of that clean 4ft NW swell. It’s not a classic, but it’s the best on offer.
Rusty.
