Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let me break down what we’re looking at for Playa de Xago over the next couple of weeks. Honestly, it’s a rough stretch.
We start off with a bit of a dud. The first few days are tiny and messy. Sunday the 5th has ankle-to-knee high waves at best, only 2 ft from the NNW with a period of 10 seconds, but the wind is from the E and ENE, making it a cross-off breeze. The water is sitting at 68°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. Still, it’s poor surf, barely a ripple worth paddling for.
Monday morning the 6th is even smaller, 2 ft from the NW. By the afternoon, the wind goes glassy and the period drops to 8 seconds. It’s surfable but very ordinary. You could probably find a closeout shorebreak if you’re desperate, but it’s not worth the wax.
Tuesday and Wednesday, the 7th and 8th, are a write-off. Onshore winds from the WNW and NW, tiny waves around 1 ft to 1 ft. Not a single decent runner in sight.
Thursday the 9th morning has a brief moment of calm with glassy conditions and 2 ft from the WNW (period 9 seconds). Again, surfable but nothing to write home about. The combined wave energy is only 72, which is weak.
Now, Friday the 10th morning is the first little highlight. We get an increase to 3 ft from the WNW (9 second period), and the wind goes glassy from the WSW. The energy ticks up to 113—still moderate, but at least it’s clean. It’s the best looking morning of the first week, but don’t expect any barrels. By afternoon the NW wind picks up onshore and kills it.
Saturday the 11th is back to small, choppy junk. Not worth your time.
The standout in the whole 16-day window hits Sunday the 12th. The swell bumps up to 4 ft to 5 ft from the NNW, period at 8 seconds. The combined energy shoots up to 235-260, which is moderate to strong. The wind stays cross from the NE at 9 mph. It’s a beach-break setup, so that short-period, cross-shore wind will keep things a bit bumpy and sectiony. It’s the biggest swell of the outlook, and if you’re an intermediate, it’s the day to get wet. The early morning might be the pick. The water is still a touch warmer than average.
Monday the 13th drops back down to 3 ft from the NNW (7 seconds). Tuesday the 14th has a clean cross-off breeze from the E with 3 ft waves, but the energy is only 153. Wednesday the 15th offers a similar story: clean, 3 ft, but very ordinary.
From the 16th onward, it fades into small, weak, and often onshore or choppy conditions. The morning of the 19th has flat calm glass with 2 ft from the NW, but it’s so small it’s barely worth a longboard.
Overall, this is a thin forecast. There is a noticeable gap of almost no decent surf from the start through most of the first week. The only real standout is Sunday the 12th of July. It’s not perfect, but it’s the best we get. If you’re looking for clean, glassy waves, the morning of Friday the 10th and Thursday the 9th are your next best bets, but they’re small.
Stay patient, my friend. It’s not staying poor forever, but this week is a grind.
Rusty.
