The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for the next couple of weeks.
Right now, the first week is a bit of a write-off, to be honest. We've got a few days of really small, weak swell with average conditions. The real story starts to build towards the end of the month and into the first week of September.
Playa de Xago is the only spot on the radar, and it's a real slow burn. The first few days we're looking at tiny, weak waves. Sunday the 23rd and Monday the 24th have some surfable but very ordinary waves, nothing to get excited about. The swell energy is weak (70 and 44), and it's coming from the NNE with a short period. It's a bit of a waiting game.
Then things pick up on the 27th and 28th with a moderate swell, but the wind is all wrong. Thursday the 27th has a 4ft WNW swell but a cross-shore wind, making it messy. Friday the 28th is a no-go: a 8ft to 8ft WNW swell with strong onshore winds and a chaotic, choppy surface. The wave energy is ramping up (1032-1332), but it's not for paddling; it's more of a kite-surfing show.
But hold on, because the standouts are just around the corner.
Saturday the 29th morning is the pick of the first week. We’ve got a solid 7ft NW swell, with a moderate energy of 919, and the wind goes glassy, offshore, from the WSW. That’s going to clean it right up. That’s a solid intermediate wave, and it's going to be a beauty. The break is very consistent, but crowds are often, so get there early.
The following morning, Sunday the 30th, is also looking really good. A 4ft WNW swell with glassy conditions in the morning. It’s a bit smaller, but still a fun size. The afternoon holds clean with a cross-offshore wind. Good energy levels (253).
After that, we hit a proper flat spell. From Monday the 31st all the way through to Saturday the 6th of September, it’s a real desert. Tiny swell, poor conditions, and very little energy. A long 7-day gap where the board can stay in the shed.
Then, just when you think it's over, we get a promising long-range signal. Monday the 7th of September is a serious standout. A 5ft NW groundswell, with a long period of 12 seconds, and a glassy, offshore wind from the south. The combined energy is a solid 678. This is the one to circle on the calendar. It's a long way out, so treat it as promising but not locked in, but it has all the makings of a great session.
Stay patient, surf the 29th and 30th for sure, and keep an eye on the 7th of September.
Rusty.
