Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s get into it. The next couple of weeks here at Playa de Xago are looking pretty flat and, to be honest, mostly disappointing. We’ve got a real dry spell right through the coming week, with very little to get excited about. There’s going to be a gap of several days where the surf just isn’t worth paddling out for.
The first real glimmer of hope doesn’t show up until Sunday the 12th of July. That morning, we finally get a pulse of energy pushing in from the NNW, kicking up a 3ft swell. The period is short, around 8 seconds, so it’s not going to be the cleanest groundswell, but the wind is glassy – a light N breeze at 3 mph. That’s a major positive. The combined swell energy hits a solid 233 (moderate), and the water is a warm 68°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year. For a spot that’s very consistent and exposed to the right swells, this is definitely the standout session of the whole outlook. Expect crowds to be likely here.
Before that, Monday the 6th of July morning offers a very average, small 2ft NW swell, but the conditions are clean and glassy with a light wind. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. The combined energy is weak at 48.
We see another little pulse on Monday the 13th of July morning. A clean, 3ft swell from the N with glassy winds. The combined energy is moderate at 145, but the period is a short 7 seconds, so shape won’t be stellar. Not a standout, but a decent option for a paddle if you’re desperate.
After that, through the second week, we’re looking at mostly small, weak swells with periods under 10 seconds and mostly onshore or cross-onshore winds. The 15th of July morning has a clean 4ft swell from the N with a 7-second period and moderate energy (162), but the offshore flow is light. It’s just another ordinary day. The 17th of July afternoon shows a jump in energy to 121, but it’s a 3ft WNW swell with a short 8-second period and onshore winds, making it a messy, choppy mess.
To be blunt, Sunday the 12th of July is the only true standout. If you’re looking for clean waves with a bit of push, that’s your window. The rest is a lot of flat spells and poor conditions. For beginners, that 3ft is fine, but don’t expect much else. For the experts, there’s nothing worth getting excited about.
Stay patient, check the charts, and I’ll catch you out there if it ever turns on.
