The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
Well, to be honest, the next week and a half is looking pretty grim. We’ve got a long stretch of flatness and junk to start. The first real sniff of anything rideable doesn’t show up until Monday the 20th, and even then it’s a mixed bag. The water is sitting at 70°, which is a good 4° warmer than normal for this time of year – it’s a bit of a hot bath out there.
The standout window is Monday morning, the 20th. Playa de Xago will see a clean 6ft swell coming from the NNE with a short period of 7 seconds. The wind is light and cross-offshore from the ENE, so it’ll be clean. The combined energy is moderate at 329. It’s solid enough for an intermediate, but that 6ft is right on the edge of being too much for beginners. The crowds are often here, so expect company.
Tuesday the 21st morning drops off a bit to 5ft, still clean, but it’s ordinary. The afternoon gets a bump to 7ft but with a fresh 19 mph cross-off breeze, it’s going to be wild and messy – that’s for experts only, and honestly, not much fun.
After that, it’s a slow slide back into the doldrums. Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd are small and ordinary. Friday the 24th morning is glassy but only 3ft – you’d be scratching for anything.
The next real flicker of hope is Sunday the 27th morning. We get a glassy 4ft swell from the NNW with a period of 10 seconds, and the combined energy is 236. The wind is glassy from the E. This one looks promising. That bigger period will give it some shape, but it’s a beach break here, so it might get a bit straight. Still, the clean conditions make it the best of a quiet run.
The rest of the month into early August is small, choppy, and onshore. Don’t get your hopes up for the first week of August. The pattern is weak, and this run of average conditions is pretty normal for the area.
Stay patient. Rusty.
