The Lowdown
Listen up, crew, Rusty here. We're looking at a quiet patch for Puerto Marina, so don't get your hopes up.
The water is warm at 24°, a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, so the suit situation is easy.
For the first week, it's a bust. From Friday the 7th right through until Tuesday the 19th of August, it's a long stretch of nothing. The swell is either non-existent or so tiny it's laughable, with energy readings barely in the double digits. The wind might be glassy some mornings, like Sunday the 9th and Tuesday the 13th, but with zero swell, you're just looking at a flat ocean.
Things perk up a touch on Wednesday afternoon, the 20th of August. We get a pulse of swell from the southwest, pushing energy up to a moderate 89, with waves around 4ft. But the wind is screaming from the west-southwest at 12 mph, right across the break. It'll be a choppy mess. The period is a short 6 seconds, so it's a weak, wind-blown wave. With that kind of cross-wind, this beach setup is more of a kite spot than a surf spot.
Then there's Saturday afternoon, the 22nd of August. The energy hits 141 (moderate) with a 4ft easterly swell, but it's cross-onshore again. Not clean at all.
There's no real standout here. The best you're looking at is the morning of the 20th if you're desperate, with cleaner offshore winds from the west and a tiny 2ft swell. Or maybe the morning of Saturday the 22nd, when the wind goes dead calm and glassy, but with that same weak 2ft swell from the east-southeast.
This is just one of those periods where the ocean has nothing to offer. It happens around here. Forecasts can change, but for now, leave the board at home.
