The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's cookin' for our region.

Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – it's gonna be a long, frustrating wait. We're looking at a solid 16 days of nothing but "poor surf conditions" here at Yarro. The onshore northerly wind is just gonna be a constant problem, blowing straight into the face of the waves. The water temp is sittin' around 74°, which is about 2° warmer than usual for this time of year, a little reminder we're still in the thick of it.

The whole first week, from Friday the 7th of August right through to the end of the following week, we've got a constant onshore breeze. The swell is present, but it doesn't matter when the wind is tearing it apart. The waves are gonna be choppy and blown out. There’s no standout day, no window of opportunity. This stretch is completely dead for us paddle surfers.

We then hit a bit of a blank spot with no real surf on offer for the middle of the period. The pattern doesn't let up. As we roll into Saturday the 22nd of August, we see the swell start to build a little more, pushing to about 5 ft. But here's the kicker: the wind switches to a cross-onshore, which still leaves us with choppy, messy conditions. It's the same story all over again.

For a pure paddle surfer, there is genuinely nothing to get excited about in this entire 16-day window. If you're a kiter, that steady onshore wind and consistent, albeit messy, swell could look a lot more interesting than it does for the rest of us. Otherwise, keep the board in the shed and the wax in the wrapper. Forecasts can change, but right now, this is a tough stretch.

Rusty.
