Cruz Roja Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you. Looking at the next sixteen days, it’s a tough stretch for surf. The good news is it’s not a complete blank, but you’re gonna have to pick your moments and keep your expectations in check. We’ve got a long run of nothing, and then a couple of tiny windows that might just be worth a paddle.

Right out of the gate, for Friday the 31st, things are flat. A morning north breeze at 9 mph is cross-offshore, but there’s no swell to speak of. You’re looking at a big fat zero for energy. The afternoon does bring in a tiny 2ft northeast windswell, but it’s rocking a short 4-second period. That’s just not going to do anything for us. The water temp is a normal 72° for this time of year, so not a shocker there.

From Saturday the 1st all the way through to Wednesday the 5th of August, the forecast is a complete write-off. The swell readings are all zero, and we’re just getting a lot of north and northwest winds, mostly cross-offshore, not doing us any favors. It’s a long, flat stretch with nothing to chase. We’re talking several days of nothing.

Then, on Tuesday the 4th, there’s a little blip in the afternoon. The morning is still flat, but the afternoon shows a 4ft swell from the northeast. The energy reading jumps to 112, which is at least moderate, but it's got a super short 6-second period. That’s just not going to have any push or shape. It’s all chop and closeouts. Still rated poor and not a real option.

After that, it’s back to the flat spell, with a lot of north winds, ramping up to 25 mph by Thursday the 6th. This is where it gets a bit silly. With that kind of wind and no swell, you’re better off staying on the beach. That strong north wind and flat ocean isn't even doing anything for the kitesurfers.

We finally get a glimmer of hope on Saturday morning, the 8th of August. There’s a small 2ft swell from the east-northeast with a short 5-second period. The energy is weak at 23, and it's still rated as poor conditions. It's just not enough to get excited about. The light west-northwest breeze at 6 mph will keep it clean, but the lack of any real swell means it’s still a no-go.

The following week, from the 9th through the 15th, is more of the same. It's a flat spell with constant north and northeast winds, kicking up to 25 mph at times. There are a couple of tiny 0.3ft blips, but they’re pointless. The long-range stuff is looking really dry. The only thing that matters is that northerly wind, and it’s relentless.

So, here’s the bottom line. In this whole 16-day window, there are no standout sessions. Absolutely none. The only real "surf" we get is that weak, short-period stuff on the 4th and the 8th of August, and neither of those are worth getting your hopes up for. The whole period is marked by a persistent north wind pattern that just won't give up, and no proper groundswell to challenge it.

It’s a bummer, but it happens. When there are this many days with zero swell and that kind of wind, a blank run is pretty normal for the area. The ocean can change quickly, but from where I'm standing, you might want to use this time to check your wax and fix your dings. Keep an eye on the charts, but don't hold your breath.
