Mallorca - Cala Major Surf Forecast and Surf Report

G’day, it’s Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: the next couple of weeks are looking flat and pretty grim for anyone chasing waves around Mallorca’s Cala Major. We’ve got a long stretch of tiny, weak, and mostly unsurfable conditions ahead. The first real surf we see won’t be until Wednesday morning, September 16th, and even then, it’s barely a ripple – a storm bump, really.

The water’s running at a warm 81° here at Cala Major (Mallorca), which is a solid 5° warmer than what’s normal for this time of year. That’s worth noting because it means the ocean is holding onto summer’s heat, even if the waves aren’t showing up.

So, starting off on Wednesday the 16th, we’ve got a clean glassy morning with a touch of swell trying to push in – we’re looking at 1ft from the SW with a 5-second period. The energy reading says 7, which is super weak. It’s surfable for a log or a foamie, but you’ll be scratching for anything with actual push. It’s inconsistent, so you’ll be waiting between sets. The wind is almost nothing, which is the one saving grace – it’ll be glassy and pretty.

The afternoon takes a step back. The wind switches to a light cross-on from the SSW at 6 mph, knocking the swell down to 1ft and the energy drops to 6. It’s choppy little lines, nothing worth getting excited about.

Thursday the 17th looks messy. Morning has a moderate cross-off breeze from the NE at 16 mph, and there’s a risk of thunderstorms. The swell is only 0.7ft with a 4-second period, so it’s junk. The afternoon does get a little more energy – reading 7 – with 2ft on offer from the E, but it’s still short-period and weak. The NE wind holds at 12 mph, keeping it clean-ish but blown out. Not your day.

The rest of the week is a washout. Friday the 18th has a tiny 0.7ft from the SSE, energy is just 2. The weekend follows suit – Saturday the 19th morning has 1ft from the SE with a 6-second period and energy at 8, which is the most we’ll see for a while, but 1ft is still knee-high slop. The wind is light and cross-off, so it’ll be pretty, but don’t kid yourself.

From Sunday the 20th all the way through to the end of the forecast on Monday the 28th, there is absolutely nothing. Zero surf. Nothing on the charts. The swell just flatlines. That’s a solid eight-day stretch of nothing at the end there, which is a long time to be staring at a flat, glassy pond. Honestly, it’s more of a swimming and sunbathing forecast than a surfing one.

If you’re desperate, the only real window is Wednesday morning and Saturday morning for a splash on a longboard, but there’s no power in the water, the swell direction is all over the shop – and none of it is from the SSW, which is what this spot really needs to light up. The crowds could be around, as it’s often busy, but with waves this small, it’ll be the tourists, not the surfers.

To be blunt, this is a blank run. There’s no other way to say it. Cala Major is inconsistent at the best of times, and with energy readings this low, it’s hard to see anyone getting wet with a purpose. That said, this area can turn around – a few days of decent groundswell can change everything, so keep an eye on the charts. For now, I’d leave the board at home.
