The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – the outlook for this region is a total bust for the foreseeable future. We’re looking at a solid 16 days of flat to tiny conditions with nothing that’s worth paddling out for.
The only break on the menu is Roc San Cayetano, a point break that rarely breaks, so a run like this isn’t a huge surprise. There’s just no consistent swell energy coming in. The combined energy readings are all in the low single or double digits, with nothing even reaching the weak energy bracket. For example, the biggest energy reading we get is a weak 40 (on Thursday the 28th afternoon) against a tiny 3ft swell, but it's blown out by cross-onshore wind. The water temp is sitting at a touch warmer than the long-term average, around 82°, which is nice, but it doesn't change the fact the ocean is asleep.
So, the good news is, you won’t be wasting any gas driving to the coast. The bad news is, we’ve got a massive gap. From now, the 25th of August, right through to September 9th, there isn't a single day with a genuine recommendation. You’ll see plenty of glassy mornings in the first week, with days like Thursday morning the 27th showing flat calm and 0.7ft, but that’s not surf, that’s a lake. Even the few afternoon ripples of swell are met with onshore or cross-onshore breezes and short, weak periods.
Things don’t improve in the second week. We’re still looking at zeros and tiny 0.7ft to 1ft pulses with no period longer than 6 seconds. The best morning is Friday the 4th of September, with clean cross-offshore wind and a whopping 0.7ft of swell. That’s not a surf report, that’s a report for a paddleboard. Even the last day, Wednesday morning the 9th, gets a tiny 1ft with a glassy surface, but the energy is still weak at 24.
Stay home, wax a different board, or just wait for the season to kick in. Forecasts can change, but right now, there's nothing on the horizon.
