The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.
Well, I gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch ahead for the wave-starved. The whole 16-day run is basically a flat spell. From the start of the period right through to the end, there’s just nothing doing. The swell is all but non-existent, with tiny dribbles of 1 ft at best, and those have zip for energy – the combined energy is a measly 10 at its highest. That’s barely a ripple. The water is a warm 82°F which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s small comfort when there’s no surf.
The absolute best of a very bad bunch would be Poetto (Cagliari) on Tuesday 4th August afternoon. Even then, it’s rough. You’ve got a 1 ft swell from the SE, but the period is a shocking 4 seconds – that’s pure wind chop with zero push. The wind is onshore from the SE at 12 mph, which is just going to mess it up further. The combined wave energy is a weak 10. It’s a beginner sandbar, so if you’re desperate to get wet, you could bob around, but don’t expect any real waves.
Wednesday morning the 5th is the only other moment that’s even worth a mention. It’s tiny, 1.0 ft from the SE, but the wind swings offshore from the NW at 9 mph. The energy is just 3, so it’s still flat. At least it’d be clean-looking, but you’ll be waiting for a set that never comes.
The rest of the outlook is a long, long gap. From Wednesday afternoon the 5th all the way through to the end of the 16 days, there’s nothing but zeros and dashes. Days of glassy mornings and cross-onshore afternoons, but no swell to ride. It’s a real bummer. If you’re a kiter, you might get a puff of wind on a few afternoons, but for paddling, this is a dead zone.
Stay patient, mates. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a solid two-week blank.
Rusty.
