The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you. I've looked over the charts for our stretch of coast, and it's a bit of a tough stretch for surfers. We’ve got a full 16-day window on the books, and the honest truth is that there isn’t a single day that gets the green light for a proper surf. Not one. The swell is just not showing up in any meaningful way, and when there’s nothing to push in, there’s nothing to ride.
Just to give you an idea, we’re looking at a real dry spell. It kicks off with absolutely nothing on Wednesday the 19th, and that flatness carries on through the week. The energy levels are pathetic – we’re talking single digits here. There’s a tiny blip where the combined energy creeps up a little on Saturday the 22nd, but even then, we’re talking about ankle-biters at best. That’s not surf, that’s just a ripple on the water.
The conditions would be pretty with light, clean mornings, but with raw power readings like that, it’s just a no-go. Even the glassy, offshore mornings on Thursday the 20th are a write-off because there’s simply nothing to surf. This pattern pretty much holds for the entire period, and those long-range days around the end of the month and into September look just as bleak. There’s a bit of wind that kicks up on the morning of Wednesday the 2nd of September, but with no swell behind it, it’s not worth mentioning for a paddle.
The only place I’d even be looking at is Il Convento, and that’s only because the forecast models for the area show a slight bump in period, but the wave heights are just too small to be of any use. The water is running much warmer than normal though, so if you’re just keen for a swim, you’ll be fine, but don’t bring your board.
Honestly, this is one of those frustrating stretches where the ocean just doesn’t want to cooperate. It’s a blank run, which can happen in this area from time to time. Don’t let it get you down too much. The charts can change, and all it takes is one good swell to flip this whole thing on its head. Keep your gear ready, and I’ll be here when it turns on.
Rusty, signing off.
