The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Il Convento's got cookin' over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it's gonna be a long, quiet stretch for the most part. We're looking at a whole lot of flat or near-flat days with barely a ripple of energy. The first real pulse of swell doesn't even show up on the radar until Tuesday, August 4th, and even then it's pretty small. That's a solid gap of nearly a week with nothing worth paddling out for.
For the first real chance to get wet, you're looking at the morning of Tuesday, August 4th. It's a tiny little swell, only 1ft from the SE with a weak period of 4 seconds. Not exactly gonna be reeling. The water's a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 81°, which is a nice little bonus if you're just going for a float. The morning has a light offshore NW wind, keeping it clean, but the combined energy is pathetic at just (2). Honestly, the afternoon is slightly bigger at 1ft, but the wind swings cross-offshore from the WSW at 12 mph, and that 1ft is still barely a bump. It's a super weak option.
There's a tiny glimmer on Thursday, August 13th. The afternoon brings a pulse of 1ft from the NE with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is still weak at (8), but we've got a gentle offshore from the NW, so it'll be clean. It's a small improvement, but don't expect a party.
The real standout, if you can even call it that in this flat spell, comes on Friday, August 14th. The morning offers up 1ft from the NE with a period of 8 seconds and a combined energy of (17). It's still a weak swell, but the wind is a clean cross-offshore from the NNW at 6 mph. This is the best window you're gonna get. The swell direction from the NE is a better match for the spot's optimum SE direction than the other tiny pulses we've seen, so maybe a few more waves will wrap in. But keep your expectations in check – this is for the patient surfer who just needs to get the board wet. The afternoon looks a bit choppier with a cross-on wind.
So there it is. A long, drawn-out period of tiny surf with just a couple of very small, clean windows. If you're itching for a paddle, make for the Thursday afternoon, August 13th, or the Friday morning, August 14th. It's not going to be epic, but it might be rideable.
Rusty.
