The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Il Convento.

Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it’s a quiet stretch ahead. The combined swell energy is sitting real low, mostly in the weak range (10 or less), and for long stretches there’s literally nothing showing. This reef and point set-up needs a good SE groundswell to fire, and it just isn’t getting any real push. The water temp’s about average for this time of year, nothing weird going on there.

We kick off Tuesday the 4th of August with tiny 1ft swell from the SE, but the wind is a cross-onshore mess and it’s choppy – not worth paddling out for. Wednesday the 5th is a bit cleaner early with a light NNW cross-off breeze, but the swell’s still only 1ft and pretty weak with a short period around 5 seconds. You might get a few little knee-high things, but don’t expect much.

Thursday the 6th has a real moment of hope – glassy conditions in the morning with a slight air and clean surface. Problem is the swell drops to just 0.7ft from the east, with energy down to 1. It’s flat, mate. Friday the 7th is glassy offshore early but again, only 0.3ft of swell. We’re talking about a lake.

From Saturday the 8th right through to the middle of the month, there are big gaps with no swell at all. You’ll see days of zero wave height and clean, glassy mornings that are just flat. It’s a tough run. The wind does go offshore or glassy a few mornings, like on the 12th, 13th, 15th, and 16th of August, but without any swell it’s just a nice day to sit on the beach.

The only faint pulse comes right at the tail end of the forecast, around Tuesday the 19th of August. Morning looks glassy again with a light NNW breeze, but the swell is only 0.3ft from the southwest with a short period. The energy is still in the weak zone (1). It’s not going to break.

Honestly, the standout here is that there are no standouts. The whole 16-day window is a bust for real surf. The spot is inconsistent by nature, and this stretch proves it. If you’re a local, you know this happens. Don’t hold your breath – the forecasts can change, but right now it’s a solid blank run.

Rusty, signing off.
