The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. I’ve had a good look at what’s on offer at Il Convento (reef and point) over the next couple of weeks, and I’ve got to be straight with you—it’s a tough run. There’s a big gap of flat, or near-flat conditions stretching from now, right through most of the period. For the first 14 days, we’re looking at a whole lot of nothing useful. Tiny, weak slop or flat spells with nothing to get excited about. It’s not until Monday the 31st of August that we finally see a bit of life, but even then, it’s marginal.
Let’s start with that Monday morning, the 31st of August. We finally get a pulse of swell from the SE at 4.6 ft, with a 6-second period. The combined energy clocks in at 253, which is moderate energy, but that short period means it’ll be pretty fat and crumbly. The wind is NNW at 9 mph, blowing cross-offshore, keeping it clean. It’s listed as marginal, so don’t expect perfection. After that, Tuesday the 1st of September morning sees a bit of offshore breeze from the NNW at 12 mph, but the swell drops right back to 1.6 ft from the SE, with energy down to 15. Tuesday afternoon goes glassy, but the swell is only 1.3 ft.
The water temperature is a standout—a scorching 85.1°F, which is about 6.7°F warmer than the long-term average. That’s very unusual for the time of year. It’ll feel like a bath.
Given the size, with swell mostly under 5 ft, it’s fine for most abilities, but the lack of consistency and poor shape is the real letdown. Honestly, the whole 16-day window is a write-off. There are no true standouts. The setup at this exposed reef and point usually needs proper swell to light up, and we just aren’t getting it. When it’s this flat and weak, you’re better off leaving the board at home.
Short Range ForecastMostly dry. Warm (max 35°C on Mon afternoon, min 25°C on Tue night). Winds increasing (calm on Mon morning, fresh winds from the NW by Tue afternoon). | Days 4-6 Weather SummaryMostly dry. Warm (max 34°C on Thu afternoon, min 25°C on Fri night). Wind will be generally light. | ||||||||||||||||||||
