Il Convento Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, grab a seat and listen up. Rusty here. I’ve been staring at the charts for our little corner of the world, and I gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough outlook. We’re looking at a 16-day window that’s almost entirely flat. There’s a tiny pulse of energy early on, but it's a sad, sorry affair. This is one of those stretches where you might be better off tuning up your board or just going for a paddle on a flat day.

We start off on Saturday, July 25th. The surf is basically non-existent: a pathetic 0.3 ft of swell from the NE with a period of 4 seconds. The combined energy is a measly 2 (weak energy). The wind is a cross-onshore, so it’s not even clean. Sunday the 26th offers a slight lift. The swell picks up to 3 ft from the SE with a period of 6 seconds, giving us a combined energy of 61 (still weak). The morning is cross-shore, but the afternoon turns glassy. Even so, it’s still labelled as poor surf conditions. The swell is short-period and weak.

This tiny, weak pulse continues into Monday the 27th and Tuesday the 28th, with the same 3 ft and 2 ft from the SE. The wind is cross-off at times, which would keep it clean, but the energy is just not there. The water temperature at the start of this period is a very unusual 82°, which is 6° warmer than normal for this time of year. It’s way warmer than it should be.

From Wednesday, July 30th onward, it’s a ghost town. The swell disappears, and the combined energy drops to 1, 0, or 2. We’re looking at complete flatness from the 30th of July all the way through to the 9th of August. That’s a solid 11-day stretch of nothing. The wind is often glassy or offshore, but it doesn’t matter when there’s no wave to ride.

There is genuinely no standout session here. The “best” of a bad lot is probably Sunday, July 26th afternoon at Il Convento. The swell is a tiny 3 ft from the SE, but the wind goes glassy. You’d be surfing a reef and point break, but it’s inconsistent and the swell is short-period (6 seconds). It’s not a wave for beginners, but it’s also not a wave for anyone who wants to actually get a ride. The combined energy is only 43. It’s the only window where you might get a knee-high ripple that’s smooth on the surface. Don’t expect much.

For the rest of the forecast, it’s a waiting game. This spot often goes through these blank runs, so it’s not a surprise. Just keep an eye on the charts, and maybe we’ll get a pulse in the second week of August, but there’s nothing on the cards now.
