The Lowdown
Alright, let me break it down for ya. This is Rusty, and I’m looking at the next 16 days for Il Convento. Honestly, it’s a pretty quiet run. The forecast shows a lot of days with no surf or real tiny, weak stuff. The first few days – Monday the 7th through Wednesday the 9th – are basically flat. There’s zero swell energy and poor conditions, so don’t even bother paddling out.
We start to see a tiny pulse on Thursday the 10th. A weak SE swell rolls in at 2ft and a period of 5 seconds, combined energy is only 25. That’s barely a ripple. The wind is clean though, cross-off from the north at 12 mph, so it’ll look nice but there’s nothing to ride. Friday the 11th is even smaller, with a few 0.3ft waves. The wind goes offshore from the NW at 9 mph in the morning, which is clean, but the swell is just a non-event.
The weekend and into the following week, Saturday the 12th through Thursday the 17th, is almost entirely flat again. Lots of glassy mornings but zero wave energy. It’s a real bummer. The combined energy value sits at 0 most days.
We finally get a bit more life around Saturday the 19th. A SE swell builds to 2ft with a 5-second period, and the combined energy climbs to 18. It’s still small, but the wind is light and cross-shore from the NE in the morning, making it a bit more surfable. The best of the weak bunch might be Sunday the 20th morning, with 3ft SE swell and 31 combined energy, but the wind is cross-onshore from the ESE at 9 mph, so it’ll be a little bumpy. Monday the 21st morning offers a clean window with offshore NW wind at 6 mph over the same 2ft SE swell, making for the cleanest tiny waves of the whole period.
If you’re desperate, the cleanest conditions for a small wave session are Thursday the 10th morning and Monday the 21st morning. But honestly, this is a stretch of very poor, inconsistent surf. The break is inconsistent by nature, and the whole window is a write-off for any real size. The water temp is about average for the time of year, no big anomaly to report.
For a spot that’s usually a reef and point setup, this kind of blank run happens. It’s a tough outlook. Unless you’re happy with a thigh-high ankle-snapper on a glassy morning, save your energy.
Rusty.
