The Lowdown
Alright folks, it’s Rusty here. I’ve scoured the charts for the coming weeks and got to be straight with you – for Il Convento, it’s a tough stretch. There’s barely a ripple to get excited about for the whole 16-day window.
Let’s talk about the one spot we have on the radar: Il Convento. This is a reef and point setup, so it needs specific direction to work. It’s inconsistent by nature, and this forecast is a classic example of that. The best direction for it is a good SE swell, but we’re just not seeing that.
We start with a very small wave on Sunday 30th August. The morning sees a tiny 1ft SE swell, period a short 4 seconds, with a light cross-off NNW wind. The combined energy is weak at just (6). The water is a very unusual 85°, which is a massive 7° warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s a standout stat but it ain’t helping the surf. The afternoon is even smaller, 0.7ft, and cross-on, so forget it.
From Monday 31st August right through to the morning of Saturday 6th September, there’s absolutely no surf to speak of. A full week of flat, clean conditions with offshore and glassy winds, but no waves to ride.
On Sunday 7th September, a tiny 1ft ENE swell creeps in with a 3-second period. The morning is glassy, but the energy is almost nothing (4). It’s not enough to paddle for.
The following week offers a little more, but still marginal. The morning of Wednesday 9th September shows the most energy we’ll see: a 2ft SE swell with a 5-second period and combined energy of (18). The wind is a cross-on E breeze, making it fairly choppy. The swell is small and short-period, so it won’t hold shape well. Thursday 10th September is similar, 2ft SE, but with a cross-on SSW wind, again limiting quality.
The rest of the run into the second week sees tiny swells, mostly under 1ft, with poor cross-on or onshore winds. The size is never anywhere near 5ft, so it’s safe for beginners, but there’s really nothing to ride.
The standout? There isn’t one. If you’re desperate, the morning of Wednesday 9th September has the highest combined energy at (18), but with a 2ft, 5-second swell and cross-on wind, it’s a long shot for a few close-out mushburgers. The glassy windows on the 4th and 5th of September are a tease – perfect conditions, no waves.
This is a tough one. Il Convento needs a proper SE groundswell, and we just don’t see it coming. The inconsistency is normal for this spot, and this is a blank run.
Rusty.
