The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – the next 16 days are looking pretty grim for a paddle. We’ve got a real dry spell on our hands.
The only spot that’s even showing a pulse is Il Convento, a reef and point set-up that's exposed to the southeast. This place is inconsistent at the best of times, and this stretch is no different. The water is running at 83°, which is a solid 7° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s very unusual, almost bathtub-like.
We’re looking at a long, quiet run. From now until the morning of Sunday the 26th of July, there’s essentially nothing doing. Waves are tiny, the wind is messy, and the scores are all zeros. It’s a total write-off.
Then, on the morning of Sunday the 26th of July, we finally get a bit of life. A small SE swell pushes in at 4ft with a 7-second period, and the combined swell energy hits a modest 147. The wind is offshore from the NW, light breeze, so it’ll be clean. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. The afternoon drops off to 3ft, still clean, but weakening. This is the only real window of the whole 16 days, but it’s nothing to get excited about. It’s small, weak, and the quality is just average.
After that, we slip back into the abyss. From the 27th of July right through to the 4th of August, it’s back to tiny, poor conditions. There are a few glassy mornings on the 30th of July, 1st of August, and 2nd of August, but the swell is so small – 1ft to 3ft – you’ll be scratching for anything ridable. The wave energy is weak, often in the single digits or low teens.
Honestly, the only notable session is that Sunday morning on the 26th. It’s not a standout by any stretch, but it’s the only game in town. For the rest of it, you’re better off leaving the board in the car.
Rusty.
