The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you. Looking at the next couple of weeks, it’s going to be a real test of patience. The surf is mostly flat, and we’re looking at a long stretch of nothing much. The good news is, the conditions are often clean, so when that swell does finally show up, it’s going to be worth the wait.
We’re starting off with a big old blank. From Saturday the 12th right through to Wednesday the 16th, there is just nothing out there. Waves are barely a ripple, with the energy reading a weak 2 in the combined swell stakes. It’s the kind of flatness that has you checking the forecast more than the ocean.
Finally, on Thursday the 17th, we see a pulse of life. It’s not big, but it’s something. First thing in the morning, we’ve got a clean 2.6ft of swell from the southeast, with a 8-second period. The energy picks up to a moderate 69, which is the first sign of real movement. The offshore wind from the NNW is light, and the place just looks clean. It’s still pretty average, but it’s the only game in town. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no worries there. This little bump is all we get, though. By Friday, it’s already fading back down to 1.3ft, and then we’re back to flat again for another long stretch.
After that, the models go quiet again. From the 19th all the way through to the 27th, we are looking at another blank run. Now, this is going to be one of those times where the waiting game is the name of the game. This break is already inconsistent, so a run like this isn’t unheard of. Forecasts can change, so don’t lose hope. When the ocean finally wakes up, and the swell direction swings around to the southeast, it’ll be on. Until then, keep the board in the car and the wax in the pocket.
That’s all from me. Stay patient.
