Alright, this is Rusty. Let's look at what we've got for Il Convento. Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you—this is a tough one. The model is calling for a long, dry spell. We're looking at a solid gap of no surf to speak of through the first week and into the second. The first real sniff of anything rideable doesn't show up until Saturday the 12th, and even then, it's not going to get the heart racing.
The water here is sitting at 80°, which is a massive 6° warmer than usual for this time of year. That's not just a little warm, that's a full-on tropical bath. It's a notable talking point, but it won't help the waves.
For the first week of July, it's all flatness and small, weak windswell. The combined energy values are mostly in the single digits or zeros (0-3). You'll see a tiny bump on Saturday the 11th with a 2ft SE swell at 5 seconds, but the energy is a paltry 19 and the wind is cross-shore. It's not worth paddling out for.
The most promising window in this entire 16-day outlook lands on the weekend of the 12th. Saturday morning, July 12th, we see a 4ft swell from the SE with a period of 6 seconds and a combined energy of 80. It's a short-period swell, so it won't have that punchy, lined-up feel, but it's the biggest we'll see. The wind is a cross-onshore from the ENE at 9 mph, which will make it a bit bumpy. This is really the only time the surf might be rideable, but it's a marginal call. For a beginner, even this 4ft might be a bit of a handful in those choppy conditions.
The rest of the run is a ghost town. We get a few mornings with glassy conditions and offshore breezes, but there's simply no swell to go with them. The swell energy drops to zero for many days, and the highest we see after the 12th is a combined energy of 15 on the 13th, with a tiny 2ft wave. Il Convento is an inconsistent reef and point break, and this forecast is a perfect example of why. It's a waiting game.
If you're desperate for a paddle, the early morning of Saturday the 12th is your only real shot at something, but don't expect much. The rest of the fortnight is a solid right-off.
Rusty.
