Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for the next couple of weeks at Il Convento.
Right off the bat, I've gotta be straight with you – it's looking pretty flat out there for a good long while. We're staring down a stretch of almost no surf at all. There's a tiny pulse on the Sunday morning of July 5th, but with a 0.3 ft swell from the SW and a period of only 4 seconds, that's just a ripple. The combined wave energy is a measly 2, and the conditions are labelled as poor. That's not a surf session, that's a float.
We then have a solid gap with nothing to recommend until the 11th of July. From the morning of the 5th right through to the 11th, the charts are showing zero to tiny waves and mostly no swell at all. It’s a quiet spell.
Things try to wake up a bit around the 11th and 12th of July. On Saturday the 11th, we see a little SE swell creep in, about 1 ft to 2 ft, with a period of 4 seconds. But the wind is cross-onshore from the ENE and ESE, putting a bit of chop on it. The energy is still weak, reading at 9. Then on Sunday the 12th, the swell bumps up slightly to 2 ft from the SE, period still 5 seconds, and energy climbs to 29-35. Still, those cross-onshore winds from the ENE and E are messing with the surface. It's surfable for a log if you're desperate, but it's not going to be pretty.
After that little hiccup of activity, it flatlines again. From the 13th right on through to the 20th of July, it’s back to zero swell and no surf. We get some offshore winds in the second week, especially on the 19th and 20th, with a fresh offshore NW breeze on the 20th afternoon, but without any swell, that's just a clean, flat ocean.
The water temp is a notable 80° on that first Sunday. The anomaly is 6°, which is very unusual for the time of year. That’s some seriously warm water.
Overall, this is a tough outlook. The best of a bad bunch looks to be the 12th of July, but even then, the surf is small and the winds are messy. For the true standout, we’d need swell, and there just isn’t any in this 16-day window. It’s a blank run for this area.
Rusty.
