The Lowdown
Alright, let's get this straight. It's been dead flat for the first week and then some, and it's got me checking my watch.
The whole opening stretch here is a write-off. Monday the 7th is nothing, just a clean, empty ocean and water that's sitting at 83°, which is a solid 7° warmer than it should be for this time of year. That's a red flag for the conditions, but at least the water's nice for a swim. We're looking at days of glassy mornings and messy afternoons, with the wind flipping around but the swell just not showing up. The 10th and 11th have some tiny, weak 3ft pulses from the southeast, but the period is a sorry 5 seconds and the energy is basically non-existent (34). It's not worth getting wet for. This dry spell runs right through to the 17th. A full ten days of nothing.
Then things finally wake up on Friday the 18th of September. Overnight, a proper pulse of southeast swell shows up. The morning looks alright with a clean 5ft at 7 seconds, and the energy jumps right up to 240. It's not huge, but it's something. But don't get too excited, because by the afternoon it's gone onshore and chopped out.
The real standout in this whole 16-day window is Saturday the 19th. The swell pushes up to 7ft in the morning, and it's still a solid 6ft in the afternoon, with the period stretching out a touch to 8 seconds. The energy is cranking at 440 in the morning and 403 in the afternoon – that's serious juice for this spot. This is the pick of the fortnight. It's got some size, a bit of push, and it's a proper groundswell. However, the wind is blowing cross-onshore from the ESE at 9 mph, so it's going to be a bit lumpy. It's not going to be glassy, but there's enough power to make it a fun, if slightly messy, surf. This is the one to make time for.
Sunday the 20th rolls in with the same southeast swell, still head-high at 5ft, but the onshore breeze strengthens to 12 mph, making things choppier and less appealing. The energy is still there (238-250), but the quality drops off.
After that, it's over. Monday the 21st drops back down to 2ft and the whole thing fades out into the 22nd with strong winds and tiny leftovers. That's that. The only real window is that Saturday the 19th, and even then, it's a battle with the wind. For the rest, maybe dust off the kiteboard.
