Table - best surf conditions forecast for Il Convento over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a hard look at what’s coming up for Il Convento over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – the forecast is pretty grim for a good chunk of it, so temper your expectations.
We start off with a bit of a tease on Sunday, July 12th. The morning has our best shot, with a 4 ft swell rolling in from the SE. It’s short period stuff at 6 seconds, so not a ton of grunt, but the combined swell energy is moderate at best (101). The real kicker is the wind: a light 6 mph from the NNE, blowing cross-offshore. That’s going to keep the surface clean and lined up. The water is sitting at 79°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so you won’t need a thick suit. This is the standout window for the whole 16-day run – a small but tidy little session. Crowds are possible here, and given this is the only decent look, expect company.
After that Sunday morning, it takes a nosedive. Sunday afternoon turns onshore, and the swell drops to 3 ft. From Monday, July 13th, all the way through Thursday, July 23rd, it’s a barren stretch. The swell just dies – we’re talking 2 ft and below, with periods bottoming out to 3 or 4 seconds. The combined energy falls to single digits (weak). Most days the wind is cross-on, onshore, or just messy. You might see a glassy morning here or there on July 15th and July 22nd, but with zero meaningful swell, it’s a lake. That’s nearly a week and a half of nothing worth paddling out for.
Finally, there’s a flicker of hope in the second week. On Saturday, July 25th, the wind goes offshore from the NNW at 9-12 mph – and that’s clean. But the swell is the problem: a tiny 0.3 ft from the SW. Pretty much flat. Same story on Sunday, July 26th, and Monday, July 27th with offshore winds but absolutely no waves. The forecast for these days is promising in terms of clean conditions but very uncertain as to whether any real swell will show up this far out.
So, to wrap it up: your one and only honest-to-goodness surf is Sunday morning, July 12th. Get on it if you can, because after that, you’re looking at a long, quiet spell. If things change, forecasts can turn, but right now, it’s slim pickings.
Stay thirsty,
Rusty
