The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for the next couple of weeks.
To be honest, it's a pretty slow start. Il Convento is just not doing much for the first few days. We've got a long stretch of nothing really happening from Thursday, the 23rd of July, all the way through to the weekend. There's a bit of a bump on Saturday the 25th, but it's barely a ripple with a 0.3ft swell from the NE and a period of 4 seconds – that's just wind chop, not worth paddling out for. The wind is light, but the swell is so weak the combined energy is only 1 to 2 (weak). You're better off staying on the beach for that.
The first real chance of anything with a little bit of push comes on Sunday the 26th. The morning sees a 3ft SSE swell, but with a 6-second period it's still a bit short and weak. The combined energy is only 57 (weak). The wind is light and cross-shore, so it might be a bit crumbly. The afternoon is similar, but the wind swings east and gets a bit cross-onshore, so it won't be clean.
Monday the 27th is the best we've got on offer. The morning sees a 4ft ESE swell with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy finally climbs to 142 (moderate). The wind is a light cross-onshore from the east, so it's going to be a bit bumpy, but it's the most push we've seen. The afternoon is much the same, but with a stronger breeze making it choppier. It's not world-class, but it's surfable.
After that, it drops right off again. Tuesday the 28th morning has a glassy surface with a 3ft SE swell, period 7 seconds, and the energy is back down to 69 (weak). It's clean, but the waves will be small and weak. The rest of the week is a write-off, with tiny, weak swells and poor conditions. By the time we get into August, it's basically flat. There's a day here and there with a tiny 0.3ft to 0.7ft bump, but it's nothing to get excited about.
So, the standout, if you can call it that, is Monday the 27th of July. It's the only day with any real energy (142) and a wave height of 4ft. It's a reef and point break, so it should handle the swell direction from the ESE, which is the optimum direction for this spot. The winds are light and cross-onshore, so it'll be a bit messy, but it's the only game in town. It's inconsistent, so don't expect a set every minute. It's also an intermediate spot, so the 4ft waves are fine for that level. Crowds are possible, so be ready to share.
The rest of the 16-day window is a big, long gap of flat or near-flat conditions. It's one of those stretches where the ocean just doesn't want to cooperate. Keep an eye on the forecasts, because things can change, but right now, it's a quiet spell.
Rusty.
