Il Convento Surf Forecast and Surf Report

G'day, Rusty here. Look, I've got to be straight with you – the next 16 days at Il Convento are a write-off. There's just nothing on the cards for a proper surf. From now right through to the 20th of September, every single session is rated as poor surf conditions. That's a solid two-week-plus stretch with no real swell to speak of, so if you're hanging for a wave, you'll be waiting.

The water's sitting at a balmy 83°, which is a massive 7° warmer than normal for this time of year – that's genuinely unusual, like swimming in a bath, but honestly, that's the only thing that's noteworthy here.

The first few days, from the 5th to the 9th, are a total flat spell. We're talking zero swell, just glassy mornings and light winds, but no energy to push a ripple. Come the 10th of September, a tiny SE pulse tries to show up, with a combined swell energy of just 52 (weak) and a 0.9m swell at a 6-second period, but it's still labelled poor. The wind is clean enough, but there's just no wave height or period to work with.

The rest of the window is more of the same. Tiny dribbles of energy – 0.1m to 0.5m – with short periods and combined energy values that barely crack 20. The wind does turn offshore a fair bit from the 13th onwards, especially on the 15th with a solid NW breeze at 30 km/h, but the swell is laughable. It's a lot of offshore wind blowing over a flat ocean. A little bump on the 18th and 19th sees combined energy climb to 15 and 18, but it's still a 0.5m, 5-second windswell at best.

For a reef and point break like Il Convento that's already "inconsistent," this blank run is pretty normal for the area. It's just not happening. The set-up looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing with that consistent offshore wind later in the week, but for a surfer? Don't bother. The forecasts can change, but right now, there's nothing to get excited about.
