The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's on the table.
Well, I gotta be straight with you – it's a pretty flat run ahead for Il Convento. The whole 16-day window is a real struggle, with hardly anything worth getting excited about. We're looking at a long stretch of tiny, weak waves and mostly poor conditions. There just isn't any real quality surf on offer here.
The water temperature is about 84°, which is a solid 5° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s notably warm, almost like a bath.
The first few days are dead. Saturday the 22nd of August and Sunday the 23rd are basically flat or ankle-biters, with poor surf. The swell energy is almost non-existent, reading just 3 on Sunday morning. It stays like that through the whole week, with the best of a bad bunch coming on Tuesday the 25th. That morning brings a weak 3ft S swell from the south, bumping the energy up to a still-modest 49. But the wind is cross-onshore, chopping it up, so it’s not looking good.
Thursday the 27th is a write-off, with tiny 1ft to 2ft waves from the southeast and onshore wind. Friday the 28th is just as bad. Really, from the start right through to the end of the month, it’s all poor surf.
We hit another flat spell from Saturday the 29th of August all the way through to Tuesday the 3rd of September. Some mornings have clean, offshore winds but with absolutely zero swell – you’d be staring at a lake. On Wednesday the 2nd of September, we get a glassy morning but still no waves.
There’s a slight pulse on Saturday the 6th of September, the very last day of the outlook. Sunday morning the 6th has a clean 3ft S swell with a bit more period, reaching 45 energy and cross-offshore wind from the NNW – that’s the cleanest the surf will be all window. But it’s still only 3ft. Sunday afternoon then turns glassy with a 2ft S swell. It’s the standout, but only because everything else is so poor.
Honestly, this reef and point setup doesn't have the juice. There's nothing here for a surfer to chase. The setup might look more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing given the lack of quality surf.
Rusty.
