Table - best surf conditions forecast for Racca Point over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. I'm looking at the charts and, well, it’s a bit of a grim outlook for the next couple of weeks at Racca Point. We've got a long stretch of nothing happening before a couple of half-decent windows appear.
Right from Wednesday the 8th of July, the forecast is a flat ocean with poor conditions. The water temp is sitting at 79°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – you might feel like you're surfing in a bath. We’re looking at several days of this with no swell to speak of. The first real sign of life doesn't show up until Saturday the 11th of July, but even then, it’s tiny. By Saturday afternoon we see a 4ft SE swell creeping in, but the wind is a cross-onshore SE breeze at 12 mph, making for a choppy mess. The combined energy is moderate (122), but the quality is poor.
The morning of Sunday the 12th of July is your best shot in the first week. We get a glassy, clean start with a light NNW wind. There’s a 4ft SE swell with a 7-second period. The combined energy is a moderate 127. It's surfable, but it's nothing to write home about – a knee to waist-high wave that’s barely got any push. After that, we drop back down to almost nothing for the entire second week.
There is then a gap of several days with nothing rideable until Wednesday the 22nd of July, when a little bump arrives. The morning brings a 1ft NE swell with a 5-second period and a clean cross-offshore wind from the NNW. The combined energy is a weak 7. The afternoon is similar, with a 1ft ENE swell under a clean, cross-off NW wind. The combined energy is a weak 9. It’s tiny, cleanable, and won't be breaking with any power due to the short period.
To be honest, this stretch looks far better for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer, especially on the afternoons when the wind fills in. But if you’re desperate for a surf, the Sunday the 12th morning is the only window where you might get something resembling a wave. For the rest of it, you’re better off staying on the beach.
Stay patient. Rusty.
