Table - best surf conditions forecast for Barceloneta over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you. We’ve got a 16-day window ahead, and honestly, Barceloneta is looking like a tough stretch. The entire forecast period is a write-off for any meaningful surf. From the 9th of July all the way through to the 24th, there’s not a single decent wave on offer. Every session is flagged as “poor surf conditions,” with scores flatlining at zero. It’s a long, flat run, and that’s pretty normal for this area when the swell just doesn’t show up.
The first few days, 9th through 15th July, are a total tease. You might see tiny bumps of 0.6 ft to 2 ft on the swell height, but the energy is incredibly weak. The combined swell energy is down in the single digits to low teens (1 to 18), which is barely enough to ruffle the surface. Winds are a mixed bag – some early glassy moments on the 9th and 10th mornings with a slight air and a NW wind at 3 mph, but the swell is just too small to do anything with. For the rest of the period, it’s mostly cross-onshore or onshore breezes, adding chop to an already flat ocean.
The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual there. But honestly, with the swell completely absent, it doesn’t matter much. There’s a moment on the 15th morning that’s glassy with a light ENE wind, but at 2 ft and a weak 18 energy, you’d be better off taking a nap.
From the 16th of July onward, the situation gets even worse. The swell height drops to nothing or just 0.3 ft to 0.6 ft, and the combined energy is often zero. The 21st of July morning shows a brief clean moment with a cross-off shore wind from the SW at 9 mph and a tiny 1 ft bump, but it’s followed by a moderate cross-shore chop in the afternoon. The 23rd finally sees a light offshore wind from the W at 6 mph, but the swell is a pathetic 0.6 ft. It’s all just a waiting game.
There are no standouts here, no hidden gems. The optimum swell direction is ESE, but the tiny swells we do see are mostly from the SSW or E, so they’re coming from the wrong angle anyway. For a beginner, it’s too flat to learn, and for anyone else, it’s just not worth paddling out. If you’re desperate for a paddle, you might find a glassy morning with a bit of bump, but it’s not surfing. The setup is a beach break, and with these conditions, it’s honestly more interesting for a light wind session on a kiteboard than a surfboard.
Keep your eyes on the forecasts – things can change, but this one’s a dud.
