The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – the next two weeks are looking like a long, quiet stretch for the Málaga coast. We’ve got a serious flat spell on our hands, so don’t be in a rush to grab your board.
Looking at the whole 16-day window, the first real chance of any wave action isn’t until Monday the 17th of August, and even then it’s far from a classic. You’re looking at a solid 11-12 day gap right at the start here with nothing worth paddling out for. The water is sitting at about 73°F which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year.
The only spot that even gets a whisper of swell is Guadalmar (Spain). It’s a river mouth setup, fairly exposed to the open sea, but it’s inconsistent and it rarely breaks with any real quality.
Monday morning, 17th August – finally, a pulse. We’ve got a 2 ft swell rolling in from the SW with a period of 6 seconds. That’s a short-period, local windswell, nothing groundswell about it. The combined energy is weak (24). The wind is offshore from the NW at 9 mph, which will keep the surface clean. The morning is your best bet. It’s a beginners’ wave, but with that small size and offshore wind, it’ll be tidy enough for a longboard or a funboard. Crowds are possible here, so you might have company.
The rest of the week offers nothing. A tiny 1 ft to 2 ft pulse tries to show up around the 20th to the 22nd of August, but with poor onshore or cross-offshore winds, it’s just messy. The combined energy stays under 40, so it’s really marginal. Forget about it.
The best of a bad bunch is the Monday morning, 17th of August. That’s the only one to get excited about, and even then, keep your expectations low. It’s a poor outlook overall, but it’s normal for this area to have these blank runs in the summer. The forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it.
