The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer, and I gotta be straight with you – for the next couple of weeks, it’s looking grim.

Right off the bat, the surf window starts on Tuesday afternoon, August 4th, at Los dos Hermanos. We’ve got a small, short period windswell coming in from the NE at 4 ft, with a period of just 7 seconds. The wind is a cross-on from the NE at 12 mph, putting a chop on the surface. The combined energy is weak, only 211, so there’s not much push. The water temp is around 74°, which is pretty normal for this time of year, nothing wild there. But honestly, the conditions are poor, so don’t expect much.

The outlook doesn’t really improve. We see swell sizes fluctuatin’ between 5 ft and 7 ft through the whole 16-day run, but the wind is constantly on it, mostly onshore or cross-onshore from the N or NE. That 7 to 8 second period is short period windswell, all chop and no shape. Every single record in the guidance file mentions poor surf conditions or marginal surf. For a spot that’s already onshore by default (optimum swell is from the N, and we’re gettin’ NE and NNE), this is a write-off for paddle surfing.

Now, if you look at the bigger days, like Saturday the 15th with 7 ft NE swell and a moderate cross-onshore wind, that setup combined with the beach-and-reef nature of the break would be more interesting for kite surfing than a standard paddle session. The energy is up there, hitting 658, but the quality is just not there for us.

There’s a brief moment on Friday morning, August 7th, where the wind goes light and onshore at 6 mph, but the swell’s still short period and the conditions are marked as poor. There’s no standout day, no clean glassy window, and no long period groundswell to get excited about. The forecast is consistent in its mediocrity, so I wouldn’t hold my breath for a last-minute change. This is a blank run for the area.

Rusty.
