Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight about this one – it's a grim outlook for Tamaris over the next 16 days. We've got a long dry spell of flat or near-flat conditions, so don't be in a rush to wax up.
Looking at the whole period, there’s basically nothing worth paddling out for until maybe the very end. The first real surf energy I can see doesn't show up until Friday, July 17th, and even then it's not much to write home about. The water at Tamaris is sitting at a balmy 78°F right now, which is *much warmer* than what you'd expect for this time of year – a real 9°F anomaly, that’s very unusual.
For the first two weeks, it's a desert. You'll see a few tiny pulses on the charts – like a 2ft swell on Saturday the 4th with a fresh offshore wind, but the combined energy is a measly 14 – that's weak. It’s just not enough. Sunday the 5th afternoon goes glassy, but there's zero swell. This flat spell runs right through to the morning of Friday, July 18th. That’s a brutal 14-day gap with no surf recommendation.
The one potential glimmer is on the morning of Saturday, July 18th. We finally see a 3ft swell from the south, with a 5-second period and combined energy hitting 76 (still weak, but the strongest we get). It's blowing a strong 45 km/h cross-offshore, so the surface will be clean. Even then, the wave comment says "poor surf conditions," so expectations need to be rock-bottom. The period is short (under 8 seconds), so the waves will be weak and crumbly. It’s really only a go for groms who just want to get wet, but be very aware that a 3ft swell is on the edge of being too much for a total beginner. This is the only real standout, and it’s a pretty average one.
Honestly, for Tamaris, this kind of blank run is more normal than you'd hope. It tends not to stay this bad forever, but for now, you’re better off keeping the board in the car and waiting for the next proper system to roll through. The setup looks more interesting for a kite than a surfboard at the moment, with the strong winds and clean but tiny surf.
Rusty.
