The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on offer for the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, the outlook is a tough one. We're looking at a long stretch of small, mostly onshore, and messy conditions. The first real surfable day doesn't show up until Friday the 28th of August, and even then, it's not a classic. There's a gap of nearly five days right at the start with nothing worth paddling out for.
The best of a quiet bunch looks like Friday the 28th. For the morning session at Tamaris, we've got a light breeze coming from the WNW, which is a cross-offshore wind, keeping the surface clean. The swell is a tiny 3 ft from the SW, with a period of 6 seconds, so it's weak, short-period stuff. The combined energy is very low at 60, so don't expect much push. It's surfable, but it's very ordinary. The afternoon sees the wind pick up, but it stays cross-off and clean, though the swell drops to 2 ft.
The water temperature is about average for this time of year, nothing wild to report there.
After that, the surf drops right off again. The 29th and 30th have tiny, clean waves, but we're talking ankle-snappers. The 31st of August sees the onshore wind come back in with a bit more size, up to 2 ft, but it's choppy and messy.
The first week of September is a write-off. There's a glassy morning on the 2nd of September with a 0.3 ft dribble, and some clean but flat days with strong cross-offshore winds. The wind on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th of September is blowing a solid 15 to 22 mph, which, while it's offshore, will make for a skate park on the surface. There's simply no energy in the water.
A small spike shows up on the 6th of September with 3 ft from the SSE, but it's a cross-on wind and a short 4-second period, so it'll be lumpy and weak. The 7th is a little cleaner with a 2 ft south swell, but again, it's very small.
Look, if you're desperate for a paddle, Friday the 28th morning is your best shot. Get on it early and keep your expectations low. Otherwise, it's a waiting game. The lack of consistent swell means this kind of blank run is more normal for the area, but forecasts can always change.
Rusty.
