Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tamaris over the next 16 days.
Alright, let me tell you how it’s shaping up.
These next 16 days are looking brutally flat and quiet here at Tamaris. We’re staring down the barrel of a long, dry spell with barely a ripple of energy. The first real sign of life doesn’t show up until the very end of the run. For the vast majority of the forecast, you’ll be looking at a lake-like surface, so don’t rush to load the board.
The first couple of days, Thursday and Friday the 9th and 10th of July, are a total write-off. We’re talking tiny, weak swells in the 0.3 ft to 1 ft range with periods under 6 seconds – that’s just wind chop, not surf. The wind is all over the place, mostly onshore or cross, making it even messier. There’s nothing to ride.
The whole of the following week, from the 11th to the 18th of July, is just as bad. The energy is next to nothing, with combined swell energy readings staying in the single digits (like 1, 2, or 7). We’ve got a few mornings with glassy or clean conditions, but with no swell, it doesn’t matter. The 17th of July morning has a clean, cross-offshore wind from the NW, but the swell is still only 1 ft from the WSW at a short 4 seconds. That’s not enough to push through.
Right at the end of the forecast period, on the 20th of July, Monday afternoon, the ocean finally wakes up a bit. A westerly swell pushes in at 4 ft, with a period of 6 seconds. The combined energy jumps to a moderate 78, which is the highest we’ve seen. The downside is it’s coming with a strong cross-onshore wind from the SSE, making it choppy. It’s still not great surf, but it’s the only time the ocean looks like it’s trying.
The 24th of July, Friday morning, is a maybe. The swell is still only 2 ft, but the wind is a clean cross-offshore from the WNW. The combined energy is low at 9, but for a longboard, you might snag a tiny one if you’re desperate.
If you’re after anything with any power, this is a total bust. The water temp is about 71°F, which is average for the time of year, but that’s the only thing that’s normal. Honestly, with the lack of waves and the onshore winds that do show up, the setup looks more interesting for a kite than a paddle.
