Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Well, I’ve looked over the Tamaris forecast, and I gotta be straight with you—it’s a grim stretch ahead. The whole 16-day window is a write-off for any decent surf. There’s just nothing on offer that’s gonna get you excited. The swell is tiny, the energy is weak, and the conditions are a mess. We’re looking at a blank run here, and for this spot, that’s pretty normal when the forecast is this flat.
Let’s walk through it. Starting from Sunday the 5th of July, it’s a sad scene. Tiny 0.7 ft to 1 ft swells from the west, with a period of just 4 to 5 seconds. The combined energy is pathetic, sitting at 2 to 4. The wind is howling from the NNW at 19 mph on Sunday morning, so it’s offshore but way too strong for any kind of quality. The water temperature is 73°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so that’s something, but it doesn’t help the surf.
The whole first week is more of the same. Monday the 6th, Tuesday the 7th, Wednesday the 8th—all tiny swells, never breaking 1 ft, with periods under 6 seconds. Wind shifts around, but the waves are just too small and weak. The combined energy never cracks double digits. Even on Thursday the 9th of July, when we get a glassy morning with a 2 ft SW swell and a period of 5 seconds, the energy is only 14. That’s weak. It’s clean but it’s barely a ripple.
The second week doesn’t get any better. From the 12th of July, there are days with zero swell, just flat calm or wind chop. The 13th and 14th bring some cross-offshore winds, but the swell is still tiny—2 ft max, with energy around 19. Not worth paddling out. The standout moment, if you can even call it that, is Thursday the 16th of July morning: glassy conditions and a 2 ft SSW swell with a 5-second period, giving a combined energy of 19. It’s clean, but it’s so small and short-period that it’s barely a wave. For beginners, that’s a safe ankle-snapper.
After that, it fades again. The 17th to 20th of July are just flat or messy, with strong winds and no real swell. Honestly, this is a bust. Tamaris (reef) is a beginner-friendly spot, but with waves this small and inconsistent, there’s nothing to ride. The reef won’t even be breaking. If you’re desperate, the only window is Thursday the 16th morning with that glassy 2 ft, but you’d be lucky to get a knee-high ride.
Stay patient. These flat runs don’t last forever, and forecasts can shift. But for now, leave the board in the car.
