The Lowdown
Alright, I’m going to give it to you straight. For Palavas les Flots, the next two weeks are looking grim. The ocean is basically asleep. There’s nothing on the cards for the first week, from the end of July through the 9th of August. That’s a solid ten days of flatness.
The surf is tiny. The biggest bump we see is 0.6m on the 1st of August morning, but that’s a weak, short-period swell with a period of only 5 seconds. The combined energy was a measly 20. You’ll see some glassy conditions on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th of August, but with no swell, it’s just a smooth, flat ocean. It’s a real tease.
The second week shows a little pulse. Around the 10th of August, we get a 0.6m swell from the SSW, and then on the 11th of August morning, it’s 0.8m from the south. Both have a short period of 5 seconds. The winds are offshore and fresh, blowing at 30 km/h from the WNW, which will keep the surface clean. The combined energy hits 52 on the 11th of August morning, which is the highest we see, but it’s still very weak. This is windswell, and at a beach break like Palavas les Flots, it’s going to be unexciting and messy.
The 11th of August morning is the only window worth a look. That 0.8m south swell with clean offshore winds is the best of a bad bunch. But don’t get your hopes up. This spot rarely breaks, and this forecast is a perfect example of why. The water is also very warm, running 3° warmer than usual, so you’ll be comfortable while you’re sitting on your board doing nothing.
It’s a tough outlook, but that’s the way it is. Forecasts can change, but for now, this is a long stretch of poor surf.
