The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you about the surf in this neck of the woods for the next couple of weeks. It’s a grim outlook, I won't sugar-coat it.
Looking at the whole 16-day window, we’re staring down the barrel of a proper flat spell. There’s just no energy coming in. From now until the end of the forecast period on September 28th, the combined energy of all swells hitting our shores is mostly sitting in the single digits or low teens – that's weak, barely a ripple. The highest reading we get is a paltry 17, and that's still weak. We’re talking about a run of days where you’d be hard-pressed to find a wave that stands up.
To give you an idea, from the very start, there’s nothing. The whole first week is a write-off. We see a tiny bump on the 15th of September Tuesday morning with a 2ft swell from the SW, but with a period of just 4 seconds, that’s windswash, not a wave you can ride. Wednesday the 16th shows a bit of hope with 2ft from the SSW and a glassy morning, but again, it’s short-period, weak stuff. The same story repeats: tiny, weak swell pulses that never get above 2ft and never have any real period or energy behind them.
The only break on offer is Segur de Calafell, and it’s an inconsistent point break for advanced surfers only. Even if you could get out there, the water is about 81°F, which is 4°F warmer than normal – a notably warm anomaly, but there’s no surf to enjoy it with.
Honestly, there’s no standout session in this entire outlook. There isn't a single day where the conditions line up to make it worth a paddle. The first solid recommendation doesn't appear because there simply isn't one. For this area, a long, flat run like this isn't unheard of, so don’t throw your board in the bin just yet. The forecasts can change, but for now, save the wax and catch up on your sleep.
Rusty.
