The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again for the imperial crew.
First up, the long view: this forecast is pretty much a bust for the first week and a half. Most days are flat to tiny, gutless slop with the wind blowing on it. Swell energy is in the single digits and teens, so you’re not missing a thing.
The first half-decent window shows up on Wednesday, 26 August at Rade de Croisic. The water temp is about 69°, which is about 2° warmer than normal for this time of year – a bit of a treat. Morning brings a clean cross-offshore breeze from the SE at 16 mph, and the swell bumps to about 4 ft from the WSW, with an 8-second period. The combined energy hits 284, so it’s got some push. Not great, but it’s the most we’ve seen. Afternoon gets lighter wind from the south, waves around 4 ft, and it’s just ordinary but surfable.
Thursday, 27 August pumps up to 8 ft from the WSW in the morning, with energy jumping to 808 – that’s strong. But the wind is cross-on from the SSW at 9 mph, so it’ll be bumpy and messy. The period is 9 seconds, so it’s not a clean groundswell. That’s for experts only, and honestly, the wind might make it more of a kite session.
Friday, 28 August holds similar size – 8 ft in the morning (energy 825) and 6 ft in the afternoon – but the west wind is howling at 16-19 mph, onshore and ugly.
The one true standout? Saturday, 29 August morning. After all that wind, we get glass – a light NNW breeze at 3 mph, and the swell has settled to a clean 3 ft from the WSW, 8-second period. Energy is 137. The water is glassy. That’s the best morning of the whole run. The spot sees crowds sometimes, so get out early. It’s not big, but it’s clean.
Sunday, 30 August morning also goes glassy, but the swell is only 2 ft – just a fun little paddle.
The rest of the run into September drops flat again. Not much else to say.
So, set your alarm for Saturday 29 August morning. That’s your window. Everything else is a wash.
Rusty.
