Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the Rade de Croisic zone over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this is a tough stretch. If you’re looking for decent waves, you’re going to be waiting a while. The whole first week is basically a write-off. We’ve got tiny, weak swell with next to no energy, and on the rare occasion a puff of offshore or glassy wind shows up, there’s just nothing to ride. The water’s sitting at a balmy 68°F which is a good 4°F warmer than normal for this time of year – feels more like a lake than the ocean.
Let’s break it down. For Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th, that swell is a pathetic 0.3m from the west, but with periods around 8 to 10 seconds. The combined swell energy is just 14 to 21 – that’s weak. The wind is glassy or offshore in the mornings, so it would be clean, but there’s just no push. The Rade de Croisic break is fairly consistent, but not with this. It’s a no-go.
Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th are more of the same – 0.4m west swell, still tiny. The mornings are clean with easterly offshore or cross-off breezes, but the energy maxes out at a measly 32. You’d be scratching for anything. Afternoons get trashed by onshore wind.
Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th see the swell drop even further to 0.2-0.3m. The combined energy on Sunday morning is a laughable 7. It’s clean on Sunday afternoon with a light northeast breeze, but again – nothing to surf.
Monday the 13th shifts direction to the southwest, but the swell is still only 0.5m and short period at 7 seconds. The morning has a fresh offshore wind at 19 mph – clean but empty. The afternoon gets a bit of cross-shore chop.
The middle of the second week, around Thursday the 16th, we finally see a little bump. The swell picks up to 1.1m from the west with a period of 6 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 86 – still only moderate. But the wind is cross-onshore from the WNW at 9 mph, making it choppy. It’s still rated as poor surf.
The only time we see any real energy is on Wednesday the 22nd afternoon. Swell jumps to 1.3m from the WSW, with a period of 5 seconds and combined energy hitting 102 (moderate). But the wind is a moderate cross-onshore at 12 mph, making it choppy again. Still poor conditions.
Honestly, there is no standout session here. No day where the forecast quality, swell, wind, and break come together. For a spot that’s exposed to a southwest optimum, we just aren’t getting the right angle or size. If I had to pick the least bad window, it’d be the Thursday the 16th morning – but even then, it’s a messy 1.1m with cross-onshore wind. That’s more of a kite-surfing setup than a paddle session, if you ask me.
It’s a long dry spell. Sometimes the forecasts shift, but right now, leave the board on the rack.
Rusty.
