Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what’s on the cards for Rade de Croisic. Let's get straight into it. To be honest, it’s a tough stretch ahead. We’ve got a real flat spell coming up, and it’s going to test the patience. For the next week and a half, the swell is just too small to bother with. From Sunday the 5th right through to the morning of Saturday the 18th, there’s nothing with enough punch to get excited about. We’re looking at tiny 0.7ft to 2ft waves most days, with weak combined swell energy rarely breaking into the double digits (13 to 46). A few mornings do have clean conditions with an offshore breeze, but there’s just no water moving. It’s a blank run for sure.
Now, things start to show a glimpse of life on Sunday the 19th of July. The morning brings a 4ft west-southwest swell with a short, choppy 5-second period, and the wind is cross-onshore, so it’ll be a bit bumpy. The combined energy is still only moderate at 92. Not a standout, but at least it’s something.
The real highlight, if you can call it that, arrives on the afternoon of Sunday the 19th. We see a jump to a 7ft west-southwest swell, and the period lifts to 9 seconds. The combined energy spikes to a strong 686, so there’s plenty of power in the water. However, the wind is blowing straight onshore from the west at 16 mph. This will make the waves pretty messy. At this size, it’s going to be too much for beginners, and only the experienced crew should be looking at it. The swell direction is a solid match for the optimum from the southwest, but the onshore wind really hurts the quality. It could be more interesting for the kite surfers than anyone on a paddle board.
Heading into Monday the 20th, the swell drops back to 4ft from the same direction, with a 9-second period and a strong combined energy of 384. The wind is still cross-onshore from the northwest, so expect more of the same average, lumpy conditions. It’s the best of a poor bunch, but that’s not saying much for this stretch.
So, to sum it up: save your energy for the afternoon of Sunday the 19th if you’re an experienced surfer and don’t mind a bit of wind chop. It’s promising but not perfect.
Rusty.
