Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rade de Croisic over the next 16 days.

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s chew the fat on what’s happening at the Rade de Croisic stretch over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be honest right off the bat – this is one of those outlooks where you might want to keep the board in the car. The waves are just not showing up with any kind of quality. The water temp is sittin’ at a warm 71°, which is a full 6° warmer than normal for this time of year, so if you do go for a dip, it’s gonna feel like a heated pool compared to usual.

Right now and for the entire first week, there’s nothing worth paddling out for. We kick off on Friday, 10 July, with a tiny 0.4m from the west, but a fresh onshore wind is blowin’, the combined swell energy is only 31 (weak), and the description is "poor surf conditions". That same story holds up all through the next week. We get a few cleaner windows, like Sunday morning, 12 July, with an offshore ENE breeze at 16 mph and only 0.2m on offer – but it’s just too small to get any glide. The energy is practically non-existent (7). So, a solid gap of no real surf from the start all the way through to at least Friday, 17 July. Even when the swell bumps up to 1.1m that Friday afternoon, the wind is howling onshore at 19 mph and the period is a short 5 seconds. The energy creeps up to 53 (still weak), but the conditions will be a messy, blown-out mess. Not for paddle surfing – this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than anything else through that period.

We move into the second week and things don’t really wake up. Saturday, 18 July and Sunday, 19 July offer a glimpse of hope with tiny 0.2m swells and some glassy conditions on Sunday morning with no wind, but there’s just no power. The energy is 9. You’ll be floatin’ around like a cork. Monday, 20 July morning is glassy again with an ESE breeze at 3 mph and 0.3m, but still no grunt to speak of (14).

Now, I will say this: the tail end of the outlook shows a bit of a tease. On Tuesday, 21 July, we get a clean, moderate offshore wind from the ENE at 16 mph, and the swell period stretches to 11 seconds – that’s a proper groundswell. But the height is only 0.2m, so it’s just too small. Wednesday, 22 July has another clean, moderate offshore morning from the east at 16 mph, swell period at 10 seconds, and the energy bumps to 54 (still weak), but the height is just 0.4m. It’s a classic case of good conditions, no waves. The best "standout" – and I use that term carefully – would be that morning of Wednesday, 22 July, if you absolutely need to get wet. Clean, offshore conditions, a little 0.4m west swell with a decent 10-second period, but honestly, for a longboard and a lot of patience.

Crowds are listed as "sometimes" here at Rade de Croisic, but with this forecast, you’ll have the place all to yourself. There’s not a single day in the 16-day window that gives us surf above a "poor" quality rating. The energy levels barely scrape above 100 once (104 on Thursday, 23 July afternoon), but that comes with a 22 mph onshore wind and a short 9-second period. It’s a washout. A long, flat spell like this is more normal for the area when the direction and wind don't line up.

Keep the wax soft, but don’t rush down. This run looks set to stay poor, though forecasts can always change.

Rusty.
