Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rade de Croisic over the next 16 days.
Hey, Rusty here. Look, I’ll be honest – the next 16 days for our stretch of coast are a flat-out bust. We’ve got a long, dry spell with hardly a bump worth paddling for. There’s a little something trying to flicker way out at the very end, but even that’s looking messy. Let’s walk through it.
The water’s running at 68°, which is a solid 4° warmer than usual for this time of year. That’s a big deal – the ocean’s feeling unseasonably warm.
From now, July 8th, all the way through to the 22nd, it’s a desert. We’re ankle-deep in surf under 2ft, a lot of it blown out and onshore, and the energy readings are pathetic. On Wednesday morning the 8th we had a tiny 0.7ft west swell with light offshore wind, but the combined energy was only (13) – basically zero. It just never has any legs. The wind is all over the shop; onshore and cross-onshore slop is the main theme. Even when we get a clean moment Friday morning the 10th with a gentle offshore, the swell is a pathetic 1ft and weak (28). A few days have fresh offshore winds, like Tuesday the 14th, but paired with a 0.3ft groundswell (energy 6), there’s literally nothing to ride.
The only faint hope is way out on Thursday the 23rd of July. We finally see some height, but it’s not the clean, groundswell we want. Thursday morning shows 3ft from the SW at a short, choppy 4 seconds, with a clean offshore E wind at 10 km/h. The energy is still weak at (44). By Thursday afternoon it jumps to 4ft from the SW, period still a junky 7 seconds, with a cross-offshore SSE breeze. That’s the biggest surf of the outlook, with energy hitting (179), but the period is so short it’s going to be a messy, dumping close-out – better for a kite than a proper surfboard. The direction is SW, which is the optimum for Rade de Croisic, but the quality just isn’t there. The setup is exposed, so it’ll catch anything out there, but with that short period and onshore slop for most of the run, it’s a no-go.
Crowds can show up *sometimes* here, but on a run like this, it might just be you and the seabirds staring at a flat ocean. For the first two weeks, there is no standout. The best you can say is the consistency is *fairly consistent* – consistently bad. This is a beach and reef setup, and with the wind and weak swell we’ve got, a kite surfer might have more fun than a paddle surfer on most days.
That 5ft bump on the 16th looks tempting on paper, but it’s a windswell from the WSW with a terrible 6-second period and onshore winds – that’s a washing machine for experts only, and even then, garbage. There’s nothing here you want to point a board at. The long-range blip on the 23rd is promising *if* it cleans up, but it’s a long way off and the conditions are iffy. For now, save your energy.
Rusty.
