Alright, let’s switch to feet and miles. Rusty here, and it’s a quiet picture for the Rade de Croisic. A long stretch of not much surf ahead.
Water temperature is a very unusual 70°F, much warmer than average for the time of year – that’s the big surprise, but it doesn’t help the waves.
The first slightly interesting window is Thursday morning, July 4th. We’ve got a small 2ft swell from the west, period 10 seconds, with combined wave energy weak at 76. A light cross-offshore wind from the northeast keeps it clean, but the report says it’s “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” You could scratch out a few, but it’s nothing special. After that, the swell fades fast. From Saturday the 6th onward, it’s tiny 1ft or less, with combined energy dropping into the teens and twenties. Sunday the 7th morning has a clean 1ft wave, but it’s barely a bump. Monday the 8th morning, same deal – tiny and clean, not worth suiting up.
We hit a real flat spell from about Sunday the 12th through to the end. Swell drops to 0.3ft, combined energy is just single digits (1 to 4). That’s a significant gap of several days with nothing for a surfer.
Even the clean mornings with offshore winds, like Friday the 10th (1ft, WNW, moderate offshore) or Wednesday the 15th (0.7ft, ESE offshore), the wave height is just too small to ride. The swell is mostly from the west and WNW, and this spot, exposed to the southwest, isn’t catching the right angle.
No standout sessions here. If you’ve got a kite, the afternoons with a solid 15-19 mph onshore wind (like Thursday the 2nd, Friday the 3rd, or Friday the 17th) might be more fun than paddle surfing, but for us wave riders, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
