Port Bara Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Righto, grab a coffee and settle in. Rusty here, and I’ve had a good long look at what Port Bara has got cooking for the next couple of weeks. I’ve got to be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch ahead. We’re looking at a real dry spell for most of it, with only a couple of very brief windows where you might snag something rideable. Let’s break it down.

The overall pattern is weak and messy. For the first few days, right through the end of July and into the start of August, there’s barely a ripple. We’ve got tiny, short-period swell from the west, but the wind is mostly onshore or cross-shore, and the wave comment cards are all reading “poor surf conditions.” It’s a flat spell. From the 23rd of July right through to the evening of the 1st of August, you’re looking at a solid 10-day gap where I wouldn’t bother paddling out. The combined energy is in the single digits or low double digits – weak stuff (8 to 32). The water temp is sitting at 68°, which is a touch warmer than normal for the time of year, but that’s about the only interesting thing happening.

Now, there is a tiny glimmer. On the morning of Monday the 27th of July, the wind goes glassy. Swell is still only 3 ft from the west, with a 9-second period, but the combined energy bumps up to 130, which is moderate. The call is “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” That’s about as good as it gets. Port Bara itself is a fairly consistent, intermediate spot exposed to a WSW swell. For that Monday morning, with glassy conditions, you could snag a few clean, small waves. It won’t be epic, but it’s the standout of the entire period. Crowds are possible here, so don’t be surprised if a few other keen locals have the same idea. The rest of that week is a write-off.

Looking further ahead, into the first week of August, there’s another potential flicker. On the morning of Thursday the 6th of August, we see a glassy morning again with a 2 ft, 10-second swell from the west. The combined energy is only 45, so weak, but it’s clean. The comment is again “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” It’s a long-range call, so less certain, but worth keeping an eye on. That’s all she wrote.

Overall, this is a grim outlook. A blank run like this is more normal for the area when the conditions line up this way. If you’re desperate, the 27th of July morning is your only real bet. Otherwise, it’s time to find something else to do.
