The Lowdown

Alright, I’m Rusty, and I’m lookin’ at what we’ve got for Lesconil over the next couple of weeks. Straight up, this isn’t a classic run for the books, but there are a couple of windows that’ll get a surfer’s heart goin’.

To kick things off, we’ve got a solid, clean session first thing Friday morning, August 21st. The swell is a tidy 5ft from the WNW, with a 10-second period. The wind is blowing offshore from the WNW at 12 mph, and the whole setup is described as "moderate offshore and clean." The water temp is sitting at 65°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year – nothing out of the ordinary here. There’s a decent amount of energy in the water (415), so you’ll feel that push. This is our standout right here – the best of the whole forecast. Lesconil itself is a beach and reef setup, exposed to the swell, and it’s a very consistent spot. The crowds can be a thing here, so get out early. The wind is sweet and the waves will have some shape. Expect some really fun, clean lines.

That Friday afternoon, the wind kicks up to 18 mph, still offshore from the WNW, but the swell drops a touch to 5ft. It’s still surfable, but that morning session is the one to chase.

Then we hit a long, dry spell. Saturday the 22nd through to Monday the 31st of August is mostly a write-off for decent waves. You’ll get the odd tiny, clean wave on Saturday afternoon (2ft), but the energy is weak (79), and conditions are just average. There’s a period around Wednesday the 26th and Thursday the 27th where the swell gets up to 7ft to 8ft, but it’s coming with messy, onshore winds or storm risks, and it’s hitting during a cross-shore. That’s more of a kite surfer’s weather than a paddle surfer’s, honestly. A couple of those late August sessions look "clean" on the wind, but the swell is either too big (over 8ft for Thursday afternoon, which is expert only) or the energy is still churned up. Thursday the 27th afternoon the forecast actually notes the swell is too big for this break. No good.

We finally get a bit of life back on Tuesday, September 1st in the morning. It’s small, 4ft from the west, with a clean offshore wind and nearly glassy conditions (3 mph from the SW). The energy is low (186), so it’s not going to be a power session, but it’ll be clean and you can get a few cruisy ones on a longboard. Tuesday afternoon gets messy again.

Wednesday the 2nd of September brings another brief glimmer. The morning has a 4ft west swell with a light offshore NW wind at 6 mph, described as "clean." The afternoon follows with 4ft from the west, but the period drops to 7 seconds, so it’ll be a bit softer. Still, it’s clean fun.

From Thursday the 3rd onward, the energy really bottoms out. We’re talking 1ft to 3ft swells with very low energy (20-87). There’s a moment on Friday the 4th in the morning that’s completely glassy, but with only 2ft of swell, there’s just nothing to ride. The run fades out into tiny, weak conditions through to the end of the period on September 5th.

So, the long and short of it: your absolute best bet is that early Friday morning, August 21st. That’s the standout. After that, it’s a waiting game for the next clean little bump on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 1st and 2nd, but keep expectations low on the size. It’s a lean run.

Stay tuned, forecasts can flip. Until then,
Rusty.
