The Lowdown
Alright, I’m looking at the setup for Lesconil. Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – for the next 16 days, the wave window is pretty much locked shut. This is one of those rare stretches where the ocean just isn’t cooperating. There’s no single standout session, no sneaky groundswell to get excited about. It’s a long, flat run.
The whole scoop is that the wave energy is weak. Through most of the first week, the combined energy sits around the 20s and 30s, barely hitting mid-40s (44) on Thursday the 16th, and it’s all short-period, windswell stuff. The swell direction is mostly from the west, which is actually the optimum direction for Lesconil, but the size is tiny – we’re talking 1.0 to 2 ft most days. That’s not enough to push through. The wind is often offshore or glassy, which is a real tease, but with no wave height, it’s just a flat, clean lake.
The water temp is a standout here, though. On the 15th, it’s 68° with a 5° anomaly – that’s much warmer than normal for this time of year. So it’s a great day for a swim, but not a paddle.
There’s a little bump on Saturday the 25th afternoon. The combined energy jumps to 141 (moderate), and the swell comes from the NW at 4 ft, but it’s only a 7-second period – messy, wind-driven stuff. The wind is a strong offshore at 45 km/h, which cleans the surface but makes it brutal to paddle into. That’s more of a kite session than a surf session, to be honest.
The rest of the run is the same story: tiny, weak waves, with clean conditions that never get the swell they need. For a spot that’s very consistent, like Lesconil, this is an unusual dry spell. It won’t stay this way forever – forecasts can change – but right now, you’re better off checking the forecast again in a few days.
