Table - best surf conditions forecast for La Torche over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – this isn't a vintage outlook for La Torche. The whole 16-day window is a bit of a struggle, with a whole lot of clean, but tiny, waves, and then when the size finally shows up, the wind is a mess. Let’s break it down.
The first week is all about small, clean conditions. Wednesday the 8th kicks off with tiny 2ft waves from the WNW, and a light SSE cross-offshore breeze makes it look clean, but with only moderate energy (101), it's a cruiser at best. Thursday and Friday mornings stay in the same boat – 3ft to 3ft, with light offshore winds on Friday the 10th being a real plus for clean faces, but again, the power is low. Saturday the 11th afternoon turns glassy, which is a treat, but those 2ft, 10-second lines (100 energy) are strictly for a longboard or a foiling crew. Sunday the 12th sees the swell bottoming out at 1ft and dropping to just 30 energy – a good day for a paddle, not a surf. The middle of the week from the 13th to the 16th is even smaller, with periods of 6-7 seconds and energy in the teens and 40s. It’s a genuine lull, folks.
Now, things get interesting but ugly in the second week. Friday the 17th of July finally brings some push – 6ft swell from the WSW, with energy jumping to 355 (strong!). Problem is, it’s blowing 15 mph straight onshore from the WNW. That’s a washing machine. Saturday the 18th is a bit smaller at 3ft, but the wind is still messy. The real kicker comes on Wednesday the 22nd of July. Swell hits 7ft from the WNW with energy at a hefty 472, but it’s being hammered by 22 mph onshore winds. That’s a lot of power, but no quality – for paddle surfing, it’s a write-off. If you’re a kiter, that setup looks like the only game in town.
So what’s the best on offer? It’s tight. For pure, clean fun on a small board, I’m pointing you to Friday morning, July 10th. La Torche will have those 3ft WNW lines with a gentle offshore breeze (ESE at 9 mph). It’s not going to be epic, but it will be the most user-friendly, cleanest surf of the whole period. For those who don't mind the size and have a big board, the glassy session on Saturday afternoon, July 11th is a close second.
Look, the combo of small swell and then onshore wind is a real bummer. But La Torche is a consistent spot, so don't write off the whole month. Forecasts can always shift. For now, pick your window carefully.
Rusty.
