Table - best surf conditions forecast for Pors Ar Ville over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: the next couple of weeks around Pors Ar Ville are a tough watch. The swell just isn’t playing ball. We’ve got a long, quiet gap coming up first.
The water temp is sitting at 64°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least it won’t be freezing when you’re sitting out there waiting for a set that never comes.
The first proper chance of anything rideable doesn’t appear until late in the window. For much of the first week and into the second, we’re looking at tiny, weak, and messy conditions. The combined swell energy is mostly in the double digits, barely cracking 100 – just weak, wind-blown slop. A lot of strong onshore winds are making a mess of things, especially from July 11th to the 13th, when fresh breezes and lumpy conditions will ruin even the knee-high dribble. After that, there’s a stretch of days from July 15th to the 19th with clean, cross-offshore winds, but the swell is so small – 0.7 ft to 1 ft – it’s barely a ripple. That’s a long wait with nothing to get excited about.
There is one standout that pops up right at the end of the forecast period. On July 22nd, Wednesday afternoon, we finally see a pulse of energy. The swell builds to 4 ft from the WNW with a period of 9 seconds. That’s enough to get some shape on the bank. The combined energy jumps to 203, a solid moderate reading, suggesting there’s some actual push behind it. Winds are cross-shore from the NW at 12 mph, which will keep it reasonably clean, though likely with a bit of cross-chop. This is a beach and reef setup, so the long period (over 9 seconds) means it *could* have better shape and energy, but expect some longer waits between sets. Crowds are possible here sometimes, so don’t expect solitude. This is the only real glimpse of surf worth paddling for in the whole 16 days.
Then on July 23rd, Thursday morning, the wind swings offshore from the WSW at 16 mph, but the swell drops down to 3 ft with a short period of 6 seconds – weak energy (79). The afternoon brings a spike: 6 ft of WNW swell with 483 combined energy. That’s a powerful lump, but with a short period of 8 seconds and fresh cross-offshore winds at 22 mph, it’s going to be a wind-blown, lumpy mess. This one is strictly for experts only, as 6 ft is above the beginner-friendly mark and will be full of power and push. The offshore wind will keep the face clean, but the short period means it’ll be crumbly and hard to read. If you’re not an experienced surfer, stay on the beach.
So, to sum it up: you’re looking at a long, blank run with almost no surf until July 22nd. That Wednesday afternoon is your best bet for a clean, fun-sized wave. The 23rd offers power but is only for the brave. Keep an eye on the forecasts; it tends not to stay this poor for long.
Rusty.
