Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Pors Ar Ville has in store for us over the next couple of weeks. Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – this is a tough run. For a spot that needs a good WNW swell and clean conditions, we’re looking at a whole lot of nothing for a long stretch. There’s a real gap here with no decent surf to recommend for over a week, starting from now and going all the way through to mid-July. The wind is just relentless, mostly onshore or cross-onshore, messing up any small swell that tries to show up. It’s gonna be a quiet time on the beach.
Let’s get into it. We begin on Friday, July 3rd, and the swell is there at 5 ft from the WNW with a period of 10 seconds, giving us moderate energy (394). But the wind is on it from the NE at 6 mph right from the morning, turning to a stronger cross-onshore in the afternoon. The water is sitting at 64°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. Still, the report calls it poor conditions, and I’m not gonna argue. There’s nothing to get excited about.
Saturday the 4th, the swell drops to 3 ft, and the wind goes cross-shore, which is better, but the energy is fading fast (209). By Sunday, we’re down to 3 ft and the wind is back on it. This pattern just keeps going. Monday the 6th is tiny with weak energy (82), and the wind is rubbish. Tuesday the 7th is smaller still, with swell at 2 ft. Wednesday the 8th, same story – tiny and blown out.
We stay in a real slump. Thursday the 9th, Friday the 10th, Saturday the 11th – all poor. The swell stays under 3 ft and the wind keeps coming from the NE or ENE, mostly onshore. There’s a brief moment on Wednesday the 15th when the wind finally turns cross-off from the WNW and the wave comment says "clean," with 3 ft swell and moderate energy (136). That’s the first sign of something slightly better, but the size is still too small to call it a standout.
Then on Thursday morning, July 16th, we get a little window. The wind goes offshore from the SW at 9 mph, and the wave comment says "gentle offshore and clean." The swell is only 2 ft from the W with a short 8-second period and very weak energy (51). It’s clean, but honestly, it’s not enough to get wet for. The next day, Friday the 17th, is back to onshore junk.
The only real flicker of hope comes on Saturday, July 18th. The swell bumps up to 4 ft in the morning, building to 5 ft in the afternoon from the W with a 9-second period and energy jumping to 347 – moderate energy. The wind is cross-shore from the NW, so it’ll be bumpy with a cross-chop. Still, this is the biggest and most energetic swell in the whole forecast. It’s the best of a bad lot, but it’s not clean. Given the size is over 5 ft and it’s a beach and reef setup, this is looking more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, honestly.
So, to wrap it up: don’t hold your breath for the next week and a half. The second half of the run has a couple of cleaner days but with tiny surf, and the one bigger day on the 18th comes with messy cross-shore wind. It’s one of those flat spells that happens. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a tough stretch.
Stay salty,
Rusty
